My son is the lead guitarist in a Pink Floyd cover band in Australia called Echoes of Pink Floyd. Every time he plays that long guitar solo in Comfortably Numb he gets a standing ovation. Gives me goosebumps every time.

Pink Floyd didn't write songs..they wrote albums, each one is a journey. You have to start at the beginning and listen till the end.
@barefootbooks69
@barefootbooks69 Жыл бұрын
No you don't. Echoes isn't any less of a great song just because you didn't listen to Seamus first. Same goes for WYWH, CN, Sheep, Money etc etc etc. You can start anywhere you like.

@@barefootbooks69 yeah but they wrote it with the intent to experience it from start to beginning
@barefootbooks69

@@juicebox268 Only DSOTM, WYWH, and TW were written as albums. More and OBC were soundtracks, so the songs were in movie order. TFC is just a collection of leftovers in no particular order. Animals had old songs retitled to fit a theme. Meddle and everything previous are just mixed songs. Your blanket 'have to start at beginning' assertion is incorrect.

This is a rocker grandma speaking. I remember when this album came out. The way to really understand their music is to sit down alone, put on headphones, and just listen to the entire album in one go. NO TALKING, NO PAUSING. This is what used to be called a “concept album”. Listening to one track by itself does not do it. Try it. Same thing with Wish You Were Here. Both GREAT albums that tell a story in consecutive tracks.

Yes, exactly. Not sure the kids today understand this concept though. When my kids show me something, they tend to not really watch a MV till the end but break away for another one, and I'm like wait, I want to listen from beginning to end. This is from the album The Wall. The entire album tells a story of a boy who becomes a rock star. His life's journey from being a kid during WW2, having an obsessive mother, strict teachers, an overbearing wife, all these things contribute to him building a wall within himself to hide from life's woes. This song is after he tries to OD right before a concert and people are trying to wake him up so he can perform on stage.

Gentlemen if you are going to delve deep into rock, it would be helpful to you to know the eras and genres, there is great historical significance in understanding where each band fits in the tree, Pink Floyd is an amazing band that was earlier in the timeline compared to you, they would be more in the classic rock genre of the 70s, of which rock evolves as time goes on, you get into punk/thrash/metal at the end of the 70s, beginning of the 80s when Metallica comes along. There are hundreds of iconic bands and THOUSANDS of songs out there, so pick a group, google a little info on them so you know where they came from, who they were influenced by, it will all eventually all fit together for you, enhancing your journey through history.

The rock category you are looking for is Prog Rock. Pink Floyd is unique, not easy to pigeonhole. But the big mistake many people make is just listening to one song from a band that does concept albums (a collection of musical pieces combined to create one musical composition). Pink Floyd will always come off as 'too slow' if all you listen to is dance music for clubs.

The four of you have stumbled onto music that many people consider to be the best of all time, for reasons that become obvious as you interact with more of the music. For YT reaction videos, you will get a huge return on views if you react to the live version of this song or pretty much anything from the 1994 Pulse live tour. IMPORTANT: You will NOT need to pause Pink Floyd on KZbin, there is no penalty or removal of videos for doing it with their music, so when you are in the middle of a Gilmour guitar solo you won't get in trouble if you don't pause it. The studio albums are amazing, but there's never been a better live band in history, period. There are hundreds of reaction videos to the live version of Comfortably Numb on the Pulse 1994 tour because he goes on a much longer solo at the end of the song and the stadium show that goes with it is mindblowing, and literally everyone who reacts to the video is amazed at what they're seeing. (That's why reaction videos get so many views, and because people like me who attended these shows know they experienced the greatest musical experiences of their lifetimes and they come here to watch other people who've never heard of it react to it for the first time, so they can re-experience what it was like when they first heard the music.) Everyone else will tell you which other Pink Floyd to react to, but start with the Pulse concert and make sure not to pause the guitar solos. Also one tip, people will recommend Great Gig in the Sky but for that one, find the studio version. It's one of those first take miracles.

actually roger waters was singing the verses and david was singing the chorus. david wrote the majority of this one which was one of the only real contributions lyrically that dictator roger waters allowed him to have on the album The Wall. 2 musical geniuses in one band with 2 egos to match created too much friction. I sure hope you're listening to this with full speakers, and not a laptop. It's an immersive sound. And the guitar solo is simply incredible.

Pink Floyd was generally considered a Space Rock or Progressive Rock band. They were never a hard rocking band. It was always mellow sounds even when the lyrics dealt with some deep ideas on grief, life in the modern world, birth through to death. Best to listen to them with headphones and a joint or bong.

Uh, you CANNOT say that the outro to this song isn't hard... While they're not a metal or hard rock band, they DO have their moments where they rock hard.

@@ffjsb I can see why you think so based on Gilmore’s solos. Pink Floyd has to be my favourite band of all time. But my love of them is based on their lyricism and melodic range not on their occasional blues based hard rock sound.

@@markphillips3186 I think they're almost their own genre. They're just incredible. I don't necessarily have one favorite band, but they definitely are in my top ten.

this classic is off "the wall" album. it's about being burned out, to many concerts, to many drugs. he can no longer tell the real world from the world of the rock star and has started to realize the people around him are only trying to use him to make money. the entire album tells a story of all the trauma he has experienced in life. for faster more upbeat songs try "Money", "Time", "Run Like Hell"

"Money" is about as fast as Floyd gets. Pink Floyd does some crazy long intros to their songs, but the wait is worth it. And, in the right mood, the intros are fascinating. "Dark Side of the Moon" is meant to be heard from start to finish, but if you're in a hurry for the big pay-off, skip to "Great Gig in the Sky" for the most amazing female vocalist solo you have ever heard.

Totally agree. Richard Wright heard a British soldier being interviewed & asked if he was scared on the battlefield, he replied "I'm not afraid of dying, anytime will do...." That's how it became the intro to the song. It's a masterpiece.

I would think the fastest, at least hardest, would have to be 'Run like Hell', other than that agree 100%

I would argue "One of These Days" esp. off of Pulse, would also be fast and hard.
