I memorized the lyrics of this whole album as a teen. My dad would play it in the house when I was really young. How young? My dad got a call one day from my kindergarten that I was singing "pop a cap in Sancho and slap her down" in class. Was kicked out for the day. Dad was great about it, but worried about me singing it again, so he simply didn't play them again for about 5 years... but yeah, one of my earliest memories is hearing Sublime on our sound system :)

Dude me too I’m 20 and I grew up in a household of awesome music (three 6, Pantera, Sublime, Alice In Chains, and so much more) and sublime was my dads favorite band and I got suspended for singing smoke two joints 😂😂 my dad would listen to it in the morning while he smoked before work and I’d be waiting for the bus lmao. I took a Tenacious D album to school and wanted my teacher to play a song 😂😂

If Brad escaped his untimely death, they absolutely would have still had the acclaim they received after his death. This is because the self titled album with santeria and doin time was set to release about 2 months after he passed wether he met his maker or not. The question is would they have eventually run their course and called it quits due to the bands tendency to party too hard.

Born in 76 . When my son was born in 2002 he had 40oz and Stand by your Van memorized by 2004/05. His mom is a Sublime fan too But she hated when I didn't turn down the music in the car for example "I'm even learning how to cook speed" stand by your Van STP. so I had to improvise and hit the volume and instead of "speed" the new way was "I'm even learning how to cook (hit the volume) Cookies" haha. So now I'm remarried and my wife now is a bigger Sublime fan. Helps that I've been behind the drums since 95 covering Sublime. I refuse to cover Sublime with Rome for the obvious reasons 😂

Keep your head up and run at life with intent, love, and hatred! Get back up when you’re down. Don’t submit to your weaknesses. Love life and live it until you die. Also, remember you’re never alone. It doesn’t matter how alone you feel there ARE people who love you for who you are and whatever you’re going through is only another reason for people to love you. If you don’t believe in a being higher than humans, I suggest you do because personally I was in a hole I never thought I’d get out of and God helped me. now I am a pilot for American Airlines living how I want to. My mom worked for Garden Grove PD as a dispatcher for 30 years. It's a Wild city, tons of crime. Vietnamese and Korean organized crime. Mexican Gangs/ The Cartel. Tons of burglaries and robberies in GG. Long Beach in Los Angeles County, and borders Garden Grove which is in Orange County. So people from long beach would commit bank robberies in Garden Grove and try to get back to Long Beach before all of Los Angeles County knew what happened. APB's go out County wide when a bank robbery happens, it's like an amber alert all police departments in the county will get. What they didn't know is a radio channel exist which neighboring counties speak on and which allow them to coordinate as needed. Los Angeles county may not get the alert, but they know, as does the highway patrol. Her department were constantly arresting people from Long Beach for Bank Robberies

Sublime got me into such a wide variety of bands and music simply because of Bradley's own influences. I started playing guitar because I was tired of air-guitaring along and wanted to really play the songs. I'll never forget the hours spent digging into the deep cuts, demos, and bootlegs to soak up as much Sublime as I could. Getting stoned and losing myself to the music over and over until I could hear a single bar from any song and instantly be able to name it. I just wish Bradley was alive today so he could see how profound his impact on people's lives was.

This song is like a life timestamp. Brings back all the feelings of the 90’s in one piece of art. Music is so powerful where your head can spin with memories and feelings you forgot the minute the first notes are heard. Wow

I’m only 17 but this music resonates in a special place in my soul after one listen. My kids will definitely be hearing this when they’re born. Bradley’s sound is unique and you can hear pure emotion in every song. It’s too bad he was taken from us too soon :/

We took this trip to Garden Grove It smelled like Lou-dog inside the van, oh yeah This ain't no funky reggae party, $5 at the door It gets so real sometimes, who wrote my rhyme I got the microwave, got the VCR I got the deuce-deuce in the trunk of my car, oh yeah If you only knew all the love that I found It's hard to keep my soul on the ground You're a fool, don't fuck around with my dog All that I can see I steal, I fill up my garage Cause in my mind Music from Jamaica, all the love that I found Pull over there's a reason why my soul's unsound It's you It's that shit stuck under my shoe It's that smell inside the van It's my bed sheet covered with sand Sitting through a shitty band Getting dog shit on my hands Getting hassled by the man Waking up to an alarm Sticking needles in your arm Picking up trash on a freeway Feeling depressed everyday Leaving without making a sound Picking my dog up at the pound Living in a tweaker pad Getting yelled at by my dad Saying I'm happy when I'm not Finding roaches in the pot All these things I do They're waiting for you.

Just came off of 4 days of grooling sobriety, and came straight to this song and golden brown. From black tar in the 90's on the streets of Huntington Beach, Long Beach, and all over the O.C., to O.G. yellow norcos in the 2000's, on to oxy 2010's, and now poppy pod tea for a total of over 30 years. My heart go's out to all the long term survivor's who can hold it together, work hard, and raise a strong family, survivor's of chronic physical, and or mental pain. God bless be safe, and always remember to hook a brother up.

A subtle but clever bit of musicianship in this song. When Brad sings about the positives in his life the song is in a major key, but it switches to a minor key when he starts singing about the negatives.

2021, first time listening to this song (and Sublime in general) I’ve heard of the Santeria song which I didn’t know who sang it, but it plays on a bunch of karaoke nights, then today I heard Danny Mullen (KZbinr) talk about Santeria by Sublime and was like oh I heard that song so I went to look it up and now I’ve been binging Sublime songs.

Every line about waking up to an alarm, sticking needles in your arm, picking up trash on the freeway, feeling depressed every day, leaving without making a sound, picking my dog up from the pound, living in a tweaker pad, getting yelled at by my dad, is true. This whole story was the inspiration for the song. Brad was too kind to be in the tragic situation he was in. R.I.P. to one of the biggest hearted men to ever live.
