I converted to 2 handed about 3 years ago. One thing that really helped me was rolling around a medicine ball in the yard. I have a 20 and 25 lb. Did that a few times per week and it really did help ball speed. I like the way you increased your tempo for last 3 steps, going to try and incorporate that in my next practice.

Very cool! I can imagine those weighted medicine ball’s definitely incorporates some muscle memory to help tempo and ball speed. Appreciate the kind feedback! 🏆🎳

Bro, I go to the lanes you're at in the video, and I've seen you bowl a few times. This video just popped up in my recommended. It's cool to find a channel that bowls the lanes I do

THANK YOU. I always hook too much so I thought the way of my release was the problem, so I tried rolling TOO much right and went into the gutter a THOUSAND times. Now because of this video I realized I need more speed. Congrats you have a new subscriber.

Great tips! I'm starting a switch from one handed to two handed. Long story why, but the short version is I just can't get the rev I need one handed and struggle to slow the ball down. After trying two handed and starting to push through the awkward feel of the whole thing, I'm finally feeling more fluid. But my shots are now high rev and hook nearly the whole lane, but I keep coming up short on the pins. I get a lot of 4/7's or miss entirely. Then I found out why. My speed went from 17+ to like 13. As a one-hander I intentionally slowed my approach trying to get my ball speed down to match my 200 rpm rev rate. Now I see I need to get that approach speed back up! Can't wait to try it out! Btw.. I've been using the black widow 2 for a while now, and have a black widow 3 coming that will be my first no-thumb hole ball!

Good stuff! When I practice, I have in noise canceling ear buds and turn on a 75bpm tempo with my hop step in between beats. That has helped me a lot with muscle memory, speed and consistency! Once I figured out the rhythm, I was able to dial in my swing timing.

Worked with mark baker about a year and a half ago he convinced me to switch to 2 hands. Was a solid 210 ave with the thumb but my speed was still 17/18 off hand. He said with that speed and rev i should switch and take my lumps. ( they will come) and your doubters ( they will let you hear it ) " you should switch back" i finished year one with 198 ave in one house and 187 in the other. I feel i need to give it 3 years to teally set in good muscle memory. Bowl leagues 2/3 times a week and practice 2 times a week an hour each

Thank you for subscribing to the channel! I switched over late last summer. Been 2 handed for around 8 months now. I still have a lot of work to do but started feeling comfortable and natural around 6 months in.

for me i do speed up my last 3 steps in my 5 step for me im already throwing 18.3 from the front set of dots so i slow my feet down to reduce speed since im ready pretty close to the foul line

Great Video! I started bowling last summer and naturally threw it down the lane 18-20mph, was unable to get any ball motion. I slowed it down this year to get more motion and better angles into the pocket. But the pins just didn't pop like before. I'm wondering if you have tips/tricks for 2 handed releasing so I can throw fast but still have good ball motion? Josh told me I need to come through the back more but I just don't entirely understand it, or I can't be consistent with doing so.

I’m no expert cuz I also started bowling last summer, but if you aren’t already doing it, I would just say make sure that your wrist is cupped as much as possible throughout the ENTIRE swing so that your hand is pretty much under/behind the ball at the release. It could also just be a ball thing

18-20mph on the overhead monitors is actually 20-22 off your hand which is way faster than you'll normally need. Expect it to go pretty straight, at that speed you'll need to use stronger equipment which also tend to be slower off the friction as well

i switched at the start of the year, i'm still stuck at the 14mph speed at the pins. at first i was a 4 step approach, that's impossible for 2 handers. you can't make you're first step to realign your hips after learning to take 5 steps i got the hop in. after doing those i got my speed from averaging 18Kph to 21kph. i tried increasing my stride length by standing further back, but it seems that didn't help so i tried filming in slow motion. i've not acted on what i found yet, but i noticed my ball release was before i stopped sliding. i think because i'm releasing too early I'M retaining all my approaches momentum. i switched out the heel on my slide shoe for the original grip heel so hopefully that brings me to a stop and imparts that excess momentum into the ball like a bow channels all of it's power into the departing arrow. that or i settle for only ever getting brooklyn's and never sparing a ten pin. even the house balls hook off the lane

I've been wanting to increase my ball speed as well. I'm stuck at 14 mph. I've tried the step back more method on the approach and i feel my balance is out of whack cuz I'll be trying to run during my approach. I'll try this counting method.

I have been struggling with ball speed for so long. I just stumbled across your video and I think that it may really help. I now think I see where my timing is off. I am late getting the ball back in the back swing, I have the ball still to far forward on my third step. I do struggle with forward tilt, and not that I do not have the strength for it, I have been hitting the gym for the last several months focusing on core and legs. My question is, when you say "engage" your core, I think I have an idea, but that may be one of the places I struggle. Can you explain the mental side of what you are doing with your core that helps? I want to assume that you are tightening up the core to help stable your posture through the approach? I feel like I get to bent in the back instead of at the waist, but I believe part of the issue is yes I have built up the core muscles, but trying to figure out the "proper" way to use them during the approach is a different lesson. Any information you might be able to share that helped you get the core really engaged would be helpful, Thanks in advanced!

Hey there! Thanks for reaching out. In regard to your comment on the core, yes, I try to first do plenty of core work at the gym. I work both obliques and main abdominal muscles (crunches, Russian twist, planks, etc). Definitely recommend that! In the approach, I want you to try focusing on first pushing away a bit sooner that will be a good start. Second, your spine tilt. If you are tilting and rotating too much, it will be very hard to repeat shots. I like have my chin/neck not try to tilt down, and I keep it up at my target at the arrows. This makes it so that I don’t look straight down and throw it into the floor. Watch Kyle Troup, you’ll notice how his head and chin are nice and stable. I still struggle with forward tilt, so trust me it’s much more common than you think. Try to also keep that chest facing towards your target and the tilt if any can be best applied starting step 3 in a 5 step approach. Don’t focus so much on tilt though. Try to focus on tightening core muscles after you start your approach and keep yourself from bending over. Some may take that as “you’re going to just feel tense”. That’s not what I’m saying, just be athletic and pay very close attention to your body and what’s it is doing. Doing some no step and 1 step drills also helps while trying not to bend over so much. Start your sessions with 15-20 min with those. Lmk if this helps!

Good information. Im going for a practice session today at noon. My plans are foul line, 1 step and 3 step drills. Usually I do very well with the first two. It's once I get to three or more steps where something goes wrong. But you've given me some things to work on today. I'll keep you posted. Right now my ball speed is only 13-14 on average maybe a touch higher. I just want to get 16+ and I think this could help me get closer to that, which would help tremendously. I have a good release and get a ton of revs but the speed isn't there to be consistent

For either style, but two handed bowlers especially, it's important to make sure you are sliding on that last step and not planting. Planting your last step will kill your forward momentum and force you to muscle the ball rather than having a good transfer of energy to your ball out onto the lane.

Welp… I’ve been struggling with speed for a long time and I’ve been scared to learn to slide but I think this means I should lol. Been planting for years
@odellus
@odellus 3 ай бұрын
planting does not force you to muscle the ball, that's complete nonsense. chris via (used to), matt ogle, spencer robarge all plant and all have extremely high ball speed with little to no muscle in their swings. it's just harder to do because you need to take a huge fifth step to get the equivalent distance as you would with a slide.

I'm really curious to see your actual ball speed numbers in the "bad" vs "proper" throwing techniques. I went from being speed dominant as a 1H to EXTREMELY rev dominant as a 2H with a ball speed (at the camera) of 10-11mph with something that hooks, to 12-13mph with plastic that's still hooking. I don't have a way to measure speed at the camera unfortunately.

To be quite honest, I just switched to 15! So my speed dropped a little bit recently. After starting CrossFit, my ball speed went way up with 14. Switching to 15 balanced it out.
