This is the very first content I've seen of your channel, and I won't lie, I didn't think i was going to be able to watch it all. I did, though, and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The whole plot is amazing, and I'm in love with the bridge. The plans look amazing, and im kind of hoping that you make a pond between the tracks as a permanent feature.

Glad you enjoyed it! We are likely to make a pond when we work out the best way to do it, maybe this summer, we wills see how things progress 😀

it's fascinating to think that there was a time people travelled to their loved ones through these railway lines. People waited in front of this building for their train, railway staffs were working in these rooms. This station might have experienced so many events of people's life.

@@theoldstationrenovation As a wedding present in 1955, my maternal grandfather (he owned a house building company) gave my Mother & Father Scotby railway station on the Carlisle-Settle line. Despite having to replace half the roof & remove a tree growing up from what became the living room, they finished making it into a home just in time for the arrival of my sister - 3 weeks early. Mum put this down to digging holes in the platform for fence posts the week before... I can still remember the steam locomotives passing by. Sadly, we left in 1966 due to my father's work & sold the place in 1968.

Literally ripping the inside out was the key decision of the project. The waiting room layout was never a living space layout. Before it was a modified train station. Now it can & will become a living space, a home.

for any railway fan out there. the railway line was the, Barry Railway. to the Barry Docks used mainly for coal. don't make it a place of pilgrimage.... but it is very nice to see the building is repaired and keeping some historic value. also the old fotos are nice.

You’ve gotten so much done. Just digging driveway, walkways and paths were a huge amount of work. Clearing the gardens. You found some interesting things. I love when you show photos of what it originally looked like. Putting in a caravan and building the adorable cabin to give your family more space while your dream home is readied. You brought in workers at the smartest times. Repointing the entire building, it looks so good and and making the building stand the next 100 years. Clearing out the interior made the home show how beautiful it will be. The excitement of seeing the plans. And you did this all while still working jobs, funding all of this and living a life in the beauty of the gardens. Can’t wait to see what will be done in year 2.

Why do you lay the decking board with the groves up?? They (the groves) trap water cause mould & cause the wood to rot. The groves down help airflow.

Been following this build on and off since it started. Absolutely amazing property. Don't know if it's part of the plan but clearing the dirt from between the platforms and building a weir at the bridge would turn that area into a massive 2-3ft deep fresh water pond. Should be more than enough bricks and blocking around to keep it in style with the rest of the property too
@theoldstationrenovation20 сағат бұрын
We are considering something like that, not quite sure how to do it yet but a big natural pond seems the way to go.

Wonderful work. Those Victorian buildings were so beautifully and carefully made. Here in London even the very old sewers they built were works of art (and built to last). It looks like some vehicles, buses etc go over the bridge so the cabin might also serve as useful addition privacy in the garden too.

Enjoyed the video a lot it’s the first time I’ve seen you on KZbin and I love the idea of the train station made into a home. Only thing I worry about and I am a mother who worries a lot is to make sure there’s something behind that stove to protect and not cause a problem with the wood walls and also it should be sitting on some kind of brick. I’m sure you’ve thought of it but I’m what they call a worry wart.

Personally having used treated timbers on my projects year on year for 30years it isn't as good as it used to be . I creosote everything now and i definitely would have done that to the base of the deck. However having the membrane and the airflow should prolong its life. Wishing you all a happy new year. In response to a previous comment its best to live in a house for a year to get the feel of what the house wants and needs to bring out the bestin it . Some timesyou need to do jobs of minimal cost as large projectseat money and why people run out of cash early into the project planning is crucial. Im 30 years into mine and enjoy it the same as day one..🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴

Great video showing all of your work in 2024. I would like to say you should have kept the bricks from the demolished wall (tree growing thru) as they are Imperial, very difficult and expensive to buy. I hope the guys doing the repointing, did it in lime mortar, As this was used when the station was built. Loving how you both tackle all the jobs, big or small and your enthusiasm for the build. Once you get the new steels in and floors down you will really start to see progress. Here's wishing you a Happy New Year and good luck with the rest of the build.

Agree with that and i saw some 1970s retro light fittings (in the old kitchen) that were chucked as part of the total clearout. Retro has it own enthursiasts and you could have got good money for these fittings. People may have bought or used the old blue-ish coloured bookcases that were in the attic.
