Having watched the entire series now a few times, I can honestly say that the early episodes WERE THE BEST!

After series 10 it really became unwatchable, you could tell there was a change in writers, Only best thing was the revamped theme tune.
@frixster19756 жыл бұрын
It started to get too soap opera like with less convincing rescues and more on the characters life’s. The early days were definitely the best. And the original theme was the best, the new ones were diabolical.

Nick had so much natural authority when it came to running the Watch; but even as a Guv'nor, he still got himself stuck in with the lads on the front line, and always looked out for his crew's wellbeing as well. He was the perfect combination of leader, workmate and friend in that respect.

Loved this series , coming from an ex soldier , I agree with Station Officer Georgianis getting a grip on the watch , discipline is not as harsh as the military , but is a requirement for the Blues & Two's services. Many are ex Forces.

of the station officers, Nick was probably my favourite, he was good at his job, he had authority, would be strict if needed but stood by his team, even enjoying a joke when Bayleef left

@TheOptimod Totally agree. I remember this episode when it was first shown. This used to be one of the best shows on tele, then some bright spark decided to kill off most of the original cast and turn it into a Hollyoaks prototype.

As a retired firefighter both in London and the counties, I came across a few station officers like him. Everything by the book but not so good practically. Full of their self importance. Because they rubbed up the watch the wrong way they did get any cooperation from the watch personnel. A good officer needs respect, that’s the only way for a crew to stay efficient.
@andywilliams73233 ай бұрын
He was just showing then who was in charge, and that he was no fool. While he always maintained strict discipline of the watch, he was not afraid to break or bend the rules when the situation required it. He was also always willing to get his hand dirty with the watch on shouts or when needed to protect a member of his watches' back. He was also never afraid to stand up to and challenge the more senior management, in particular, ADO (later DO) Scase. Once he'd made it clear to the watch that he was in charge, what was expected of them, and for them not to take the complete micky around him, he mellowed a good deal, and allowed them to have a laugh here and there, turning a blind eye to pranks and even very occasionally involving himself in a prank or 2. He was ultimately extremely highly respected by his watch.

Hallam was Acting SO until Nick arrived. Sadly, the promotion board turned him down ... That saying, although Nick was a bit of a bastard to start off with, the lads quickly warmed up to him ... he wasn't the stuffed shirt he started of with ... so by the time of the warehouse fire of S4Ep9 & 10 (by far my favourite, and iirc, the only time where a ACFO became Incident Commander (heck, he made pumps 20 ...)), the lads had warmed up to him to the point where Sicknote and Colin nearly charged into the collapsed building to save him ...
@turricanedtc37646 жыл бұрын
@@nigelft - Hallam may have been turned down for promotion because of the reprimand on his record following the near-death of a fireman as a result of racial abuse (in fairness, Hallam did his best to stop it - but it backfired). Nick would undoubtedly have read that, and resolved to tighten up discipline on his arrival. The difference between Nick and the likes of Scase is that Scase used "the book" to set himself apart from the rank-and-file and toady up to the brass, whereas it became clear that Nick used it to make Blue Watch better firefighters - and, unlike Scase, he certainly was not afraid to get stuck in and "get his hands dirty". It also became clear over time that Nick genuinely cared about his firefighters, and would go out on a limb for any of them if necessary.
