Ohhh thank you soo soo much finally someone who said we can divide x exponentials and get them subtracted. I consulted over 40 exponential equation videos and they all complicated the problem solving to an extent that no one allowed the exponentials division method. Thank youu

By definition of the log you can also skip the division by log(2) by converting x= log(y) in base 2; in Excel: =LOG((1+SQRT(5))/2;2)
@georgesbv1
@georgesbv1 3 жыл бұрын
one can even get rid of division: x = log2(1+sqrt(5))-1

I actually found it quite easy and now I am doing calculus what I was saying is they don't teach you this in elementary school,there was a language barrier as when you put "elementary" before a subject in my language then that means that it's taught in the grades 1 through 5

Nice! Next time, you might leave the substitution for y up while it’s still being used, for clarity. You might also have simplified the symbolic solution using the change-of-base theorem, to log_2 [(1+√5))/2]. or using the ɸ (phi) symbol for the Golden Ratio that you mentioned and Donald Knuth's notation lg for the binary logarithm that is so important in computer science, lg ɸ - 1.

Solving this in C is a bit more challenging: 2^x+4^x=8^x 2^x+2^(2x)=2^(3x) 2^x+(2^x)²=(2^x)^3 If y=2^x we have: y+y²=y^3 So y=0 or y²-y-1=0 The solutions for y are: 0,(1+sqrt(5))/2, (1-sqrt(5))/2 2^x=0 has no solution. 2^x=(1+sqrt(5))/2 has a real solution which is log((1+sqrt(5))/2)/log(2). 2^x=(1-sqrt(5))/2 has no solutions in R but you can solve this in C. (1-sqrt(5))/2=-i².(sqrt(5)-1)/2=e^(i.(2k+1).pi).e^(log(sqrt(5)-1)/2)=e^(log(sqrt(5)-1)/2)+i.(2k+1).pi) (k is an relative integer ) So e^(log(2)x)=e^(log(sqrt(5)-1)/2)+i.(2k+1).pi) x=(log(sqrt(5)-1)/2)+i.(2k+1).pi)/log(2)

For 3x = 3x, x can be any number, not just 1. But, if you plug 1 into the original equation, you get 2^1 + 4^1 = 8^1 ... 2 + 4 = 8 ... and that is not correct.
