I think focal length for concave mirrors are negative because lengths are measured from the pole and lengths opposite to the direction of incident ray is negative

why isn't "f" negative in the first example with the concave mirror?
@caposolomon87455 жыл бұрын
I know this is super late and you probably already pass this class along time ago. The reason you don't take do - di, is because it was a real image and not an imaginary one. Hope that might of answer your question, if it still keep you up at night a year later. XD

f as in the focal length is not negative because it is positive for CONCAVE mirrors and for CONVEX mirrors, it is negative.

Why are the two examples having differing lines drawn. how do i know if the light ray has to pass through the focal point? or whether itll bend or just reflect back

what if you don't know the type of mirror, the radius of the curvature, the image distance, or the lateral magnification
@aryamaupadhyaya60144 жыл бұрын
If you don't know the type of mirror, the values of f, v or u will be given with respective signs and if we don't know the radius, we can find the focal length by the mirror formula and double it, if the image disttance isn't known we can use mirror formula or magnification and if magnification isn't given.....well after all that this wouldn't be hard to calculate

lol when would the absolute value of M ever be less than 1, unless its zero . And if it could only be zero why not just say "|M|= 0 = reduced" .
