Theory: Mythal's Death

This is one of the theories which is the hardest to pinpoint just because of how little is known revolving around the events of Mythal’s death. I break down what could have happened from what is known in the game and the codex entries.
Please keep in mind, all theories, no matter how based in lore, are a matter of opinion. I welcome discussion over the theories and your own opinions. Just, please, keep it civil.

This is the first of your videos I've seen, and I think you did a good job with this! :) I especially like how you point out that what Solas says may not be entirely factual. I actually mention that in some of my own videos. I'm really not sure I can buy Solas story of the Evanuris ALL being corrupt and evil. That just seems like a very biased opinion. But I have a question for you? What purpose would it serve Dirthamen to try making Solas believe he was there? If he wasn't, why would he want anyone to believe he was? Also, I want to point out a theory that Dirthamen has a strong connection to Ghilin'nain, as a few murals can be found in Inquisition of a bear (Dirthamen's spirit animal) embracing a white figure with halla horns, which is a common representation of Ghilin'nain.

First, thank you. Dirthamen is the keeper of secrets. He could have wanted Solas to continue believing that all the other seven were corrupt. Or have some other motive behind why he wanted Solas to believe he was there in order to ensure he could still be walking around free. However, that is another theory entirely so I didn't touch on it much here. I always assumed those images were of a wolf and not a raven. Dirthamen's spirit animal is a raven and Solas's was the wolf so i thought it was Solas embracing the halla. Halla are also often used for symbolizing the dalish. Thus it could also symbolize Solas and a dalish inquisitor. The reason I thought it was a wolf was foreshadowing more on who Solas really is. But, yes, I do know what you're talking about and it is an interesting idea around the image.

i always assumed it was a case of a power struggle. mythal was powerful enough to prevent the others from gaining more power as seen with falon'din and andruil. perhaps she was planning to make a move that would have undermined the others and the overall power structure such as maybe renouncing her godhood or banning the practice of slavery. so even if the others lacked any personal grievances or might not have acted directly, they all stood to gain by getting rid of her. this would be a good motive for solas to decide they all had to be punished as well, as none of them would have tried to stop it.

Elgar'nan, Andruil and Ghilan'hain are my top suspects. As regards Falon'din we only have Solas' word for his warmongering and I don't trust Solas as a reliable source. I found your suggestion about Dirthamen's raven, Deceit, interesting but I have no clue why he would wish to do that. I'm really hoping Dragon Age 4 will answer a few questions, perhaps even introduce an escaped Evanuris or two.

Deceit is an interesting factor. Dirthamen is the one who introduced trust and loyalty in family to the people. Out of all the evanuris he could have escaped the trap entirely just because of Deceit, but that is another theory which is more guess work because we don't know what Deceit can do. Given there is some truths to what the evanuris can do (Fen'Harel sneaking into dreams and manipulating them), Dirthamen could have known a lot more about what was happening than all the others. He is the Keeper of Secrets after all. With Dirthamen, I believe he would have to be the one Solas didn't know well or have a good a read on. He's also, most likely, the only one who could have had spies within Solas's group and turned the spies Solas had on him against Solas. Being a keeper of secrets would make him highly intelligent to the point he might even have been the only one able to beat Solas in tactics. Though, all of this is speculation. I agree with Falon'Din and even stated by I do in the video with Solas being on Mythal's side which in turn makes it so he's very opinionated about the other seven. Also, really the only word about Falon'Din's corruption we get is from Solas. There are hints of wars between him and Elgar'nan, but other than this, nothing. Andruil has more against her. There is too much unanswered in regards to the pantheon. I also hope DA4 brings with it some answers. I love idea of an escaped Evanuris or even one who has been out this entire time like Mythal (Dirthamen, perhaps?). Though everything I say about Dirthamen relies on what we know of his name, the fact he is the keeper of secrets, and Deceit.

To my mind, Solas is a hypocrite. He locked the evanuris away because they murdered Mythal, then he takes her power into himself (apparently), depending on what Flemeth pushed into that eluvien, thus 'killing' Flemeth/Mythal. When asked about the evanuris, he states 'I had plans'. Does this mean he wants to rule all of restored elvhanen alone? That's how it comes across to me.

I agree that he is. It's hard to say what he's plans are. I never thought on the fact he might actually take power, but does had a tendency to force his will upon others.

Bare with me this is a bit of a long one.I think what Flemeth actually pushed through the eluvian wasnt just Urthemiels soul but one of the other evanuris, maybe because Myhal knew what was about to happen to her. Solas now has Mythal inside him. Perhaps he wasnt strong enough to handle another soul, especially if the other evanuris are corrupted or blighted in some way. Mythal must have known this would have caused the corruption to spread to solas. If it turns out thats correct then there may be other wisps of the evanuris left in thedas, locked away inside some other beings. What better way to hide them away. When we think of people like Sandal being oddly powerful, and some might even say a link between Sera and Andruil ! That would mean at least 4 evanuris all together that could be in thedas currently. Perhaps all of them werent locked away in the fade, only the ones that seemed a genuine threat to solas and his dreamer skills, Elgar`nan, Falon din and Dirthamen ! Obviously Elgar`nan is the big end game threat but the strangeness of Falon din and Dirthamen you can bet they were just as poweful dreamers as solas. Theres no way he could risk them being imprisoned in thedas. If sera is linked to Andruil, that would leave sandal and urthemiel ( June and Sylaise? ) but what of Ghillanain? maybe as some kind of cruel final taunt he imprisoned her in to one of the animals she cared so much for ! who knows its all good theory. Sorry for the long reply im just sat here driving myself mad waiting for DA4, I will go mad if they realease this tactics game first especially after the trespasser cliffhanger ! :)

Very interesting theory! It's also quite possible that, because June, Sylaise etc didn't interfere Solas found them equally guilty of the crime.

I read a cool theory about how Andruil was Mythals daughter who discovered the titans whilst hunting and how it corrupted her, Mythal then stripped the knowledge from a crazed Andruil and proceeded to hunt the pillars of the earth. Whether they were already blighted beings or due to Mythal sundering of a titan, once it was discovered what could be unleashed, they collapsed the tunnels and tried to cover it all up. With the other Evanuris seeking greater power they tried to discover the location and killed Mythal for hiding it all. It's a good theory !

What if solas was the killer and he was corrupted and decieved into thinking it was the others to get them out of the way

An interesting theory, but wouldn't Mythal have acted differently at the end of Inquisition if Solas killed her instead of just sad? Also Abelas wouldn't have reacted well to Solas if Solas was the one who killed Mythal. But still it is a very interesting theory.

Flamewing80 This theory works actually. If you listen to some banter Cole says about Solas he mentions solas having memories taken from him. If he had been tricked into killing Mythal the one who tricked him could easily have manipulated his memories of doing so showing the 7 as the ones who did it or maybe taking the act of her death away completely. If that was done then he would have probably concluded that the 7 had done the deed and not him as he couldn't remember it. As for Mythal in Flemeth not acting on this maybe she new he had been tricked into it or learned of it in the thousand or so years she was walking around thedas while Solas was dreaming? Perhaps in the thousand years she might have learned to forgive him? Or upon finding Solas they talked and she learned that he had no recollection of killing her and she forgave him knowing then that he had been tricked? I honestly see solas killing her and maybe your raven of deceit had been the one to trick him into doing it.

I watched your video couple of times. It's interesting, giving me more points of view, more information to think about, but yet, I'm not sure if I have more answers. I might have more questions, perhaps. They even might encourge to seek better answers, so I think it would be good to share them here. Before rain then however, I want to mention something (I'm not sure if it really has anything to do with deceit demon and its nature, or perhaps it's just a bug in the game?) In the Hinterlands, when you go to the lair of wolves to eliminate them / the corruption influence on the pack, you happen to fight a lesser terror. After you kill that demon, it drops an amulet, and the description says: "It was dropped by a WOLF" (While you wearing it, some packs of wolves manage to avoid you around Thedas) While WE know it was a demon, perhaps the real mad wolves tought it was actually a wolf? a stronger one, which can lead and order, thus take command and terrorize whomever its like? Perhaps the demon of deceit had the same basic nature and was powerful enough to manipulate people (the Evanuris?) beside animals? Perhaps the envy demon could do the same? At the begining not be equal to the inquisitor, but maybe in time? ("Silent! I'm learning!") I just wonder. For the rest: 1. I didn't realize why Ghilan'hain would have interest in Mythal's death? 2. If Solas was there and could not stopped the murder, maybe because he simply couldn't stopped them? He admints he couldn't kill them, that's why hw tricked them. But what really interesting is how, with all his followers and spies and free travelling in both realms - he didn't have a single clue for their plans until it was too late? Is that possible? There are huge blanks here. Solas won't provide the truth. Only pieces. Possibly because even he doesn't know all of it, or the sentinels in the temple, as bound to one place. But who does who can tell it? Dirthamen? 3. You theorized that the deceit demon of Dirthamen wanted Solas to believe that all the 7 Evanuris were there, including Dirthamen. What do you think are its motives? I still can't think about good explanation to this. Maybe this demon was on its own after all, like the demon in the Hinterlands? Following its own nature and screw over its master?

I think that Flemeth feels indebted to Mythal. Maybe in Dragon Age 4, Flemeth will work with the party against Solas.

Everything in the game could be said to be legend, however, we know Mythal's 'soul' survived and joined with Mythal. Please don't push your own beliefs, whatever they may be, on a fictional universe.

Isn't June pronounced like Beyonce? Also, was Solas first to become a "god" in training until he saw Mythal betrayed? For all we know he was throwing a child's fit and made several mistakes trying to do what is right.

It's pronounced "Falon'din" not "Falon'den". With an "I" not and "E".
