Don - masterful work on this video. This series will really help new RPAS operators who struggle with the Transport Canada syllabus.

Greetings Don. An excellent Part 2 focusing on stability and control surfaces. Great that you included views of control surfaces on real airplanes. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Dave! It was a very cool experience visiting the airport and talking to the pilots about the controls. AND today, I did the same thing with helicopters! Video coming soon (well....many days from now!)!

Awesome Don! Cool that you got to spend some time at the airport seeing things first hand. Packed full of information yet again! Enjoyed seeing the Arrow again. Thanks brother!

Thank you, Doug! Yes, it was a fun and different morning visiting the airport! Sadly, it was too windy to fly, but they gave me the 'kiddy ride' on the ground so I could get some footage moving.

Nice video. One note - the table at the 6:45 point has Longitudinal and Lateral switched. Longitudinal runs lengthways down the fuselage in the roll axis.
@DonJoyce3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Randy. Actually the table is correct. This can be very confusing but here is a nice summary from Wiki, "The longitudinal stability of an aircraft, also called pitch stability, refers to the aircraft's stability in its plane of symmetry, about the lateral axis (the axis along the wingspan)." and "The lateral axis is parallel to the wings and passes through the aircraft's center of gravity. It is the axis around which the aircraft pitches, as controlled by the elevators. ... So, elevators provide lateral rotation to achieve longitudinal stability, and vice versa for ailerons." Don't worry...I recall studying this for ages before preparing the table!

Thanks, Dory! And so glad you're finding it fun...this material can be pretty dry!!
@DoryAbelman2 жыл бұрын
@@DonJoyce thank you! Yes I agree, can be dry but also very fascinating.. I'm an aviation nerd so get excited by this stuff haha :) The way you present the content is also very interesting and engaging, it was especially cool when you went to the airport to show videos of how the collective and cyclic affected the helicopter propeller in the third theory of flight video via the swashplate. Seeing the levers moving the blades made the content so much simpler to understand compared to reading it in a textbook! I really appreciate your efforts in creating such excellent education materials in this area. Also I feel like your videos really helped me pass my advanced exam, so thanks so much for that! Can't wait to get to know your app and get flying

Heya Don it might be your accent I am taking notes for my Advanced Exam, are you saying "Attitude" or "Altitude"?
@DonJoyce3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leah! The 'attitude' of an aircraft, for example around the 4:40 point in the video, refers to the pitch of the aircraft (pointing up or down). Hope that helps!
