Constructive criticism: The explanation would be better if we could hear the sound of the chords and melodies that are being displayed on the screen. Those who do not have any piano around, cannot imagine what all of this sounds like. You could also write the name of the chords and notes below the stave. Greetings from Catalonia.

Excellent content. Presentation a little dry and monotonous. A few musical illustrations would have been welcome. Subscribed.

Very clearly explained -- not only for people who want to analyze music but for people who want to write it as well.

Useful? Definitely. Powerfully illuminating and epiphanous? Big time! Key concepts in physics are explained by invariance and symmetries. Considering that the field of physics began with the investigation of pitch and harmony, it seems fitting that underlying structures in music can be understood and explained by these same very principles.

Yes, there has always been a relationship between music and other fields. Fascinating how it all ties in. Thanks for the comment

This was a great explanation, not only do you explain what the theoretical framework of what the changes do, but you also give some useful examples to get your gears going! Thanks

but it is not an equal division of the Octave. It is composed of 2 Major 3rds and a Spetimal Major 3rd. But when the Augmented Triad completes the Octave it is actually using 2 Major 3rds and a Spetimal Major 3rd. A Major 3rd is 386c. 386+386+386 = 1158 And so 3 stacked Major 3rds is 42 cents short of the Octave. 42 cents is the Septimal Diesis. 386+386= 772 1200-772= 428 and 428 cents is the space of the Spetimal Major 3rd with a harmonic ratio of 9:7 *The Septimal Major 3rd is actually closer to 435cents. the reason that there is space between 435 and 428 is due to yet another diesis.

Robert Aguirre Well, I guess it is quite clear from the video that he talks about equal division of the octave in the context of 12-ET. An interesting point anyway though.

well the simple ratios are irrelevant when discussing jazz theory where everything is based in 12ET. would be fun to hear this piece in just intonation though
