I recently saw a nice tech breakdown from Originsparkour - focused on the backswing. I didnt know that stuff, maybe its something to try out? Video is called ‘is your backswing in shape?’

Loving these videos and breakdowns about the physical and biomechanics involved! Makes me have a video about my body shape for parkour and sticks 😅
These videos are just amazing. I would have loved for knowledge like that to be around back when I was starting out almost 15 years ago. Still I am happy that the new generation of athletes has so many ressources at hand to push the art form even further in years to come. This contribution cannot be underestimated. Actually understanding how the different elements are impacted and what to focus on in your "down time" (stretches, mobilisation practice) is so helpful both on the highest level and as a beginner as well. Thank you so much!

This is really interesting. There may not be "arm guys" in parkour, but there certainly are in the related community of athletes who train specifically for "Ninja". Interestingly, one thing I've noticed in those athletes actually works against this roundness and uprightness. There is a tendency in this sport to really over train the pulling muscles (largely in the back) and to somewhat neglect the pushing muscles. This can lead to the same sort of hunched over effect just because of where they're carrying muscle. But many of the best athletes have a better balance that maintains that roundness and you can see it in the fluidity of their movement like you can with Tim Champion.

I have a question that's been bugging me for a long time. I've been doing parkour for several years (not "full-time", i also do mountain biking), but in the past few years i was struggling with a couple of rolled ankles, and it sent me back to the start. Now i don't mean physically, but in a more "mental" way. And it's not just that i'm afraid of doing all these stuff again, that's easy to overcome by breaking down the movements. But my vision, my reaction times, space awareness, focusing, all went out the window. I feel like i'm just a spectator in my own body, which feels very dangerous as i don't have all the control i should have. It's like i'm not even there. I'm sure i do something wrong, but i just can't seem to get out of this state, no matter how much i practice the little, safe things, just as when i started doing parkour. Interestingly, all the basic movements (vaults, rolls, etc) are working pretty well in this autopilot mode, but it's still terrifying to not be in actual control. Do you have any idea what could i do to be more present?

I've been trying to be more upright for maybe last 8-10 months and I've also fixed my stooping shoulders, but it really makes my lower back sore, does it mean I'm doing something wrong?

@@AntonAdelson they're not so well, I'll start working on them But will it also help with soreness in back?

@@yash8520 The rounder your chest is the more upright you can be the less tension is on your back from head constantly falling forward. So, yeah, I'd say it'll be less sore!
