Totally agree Kerri you really haven't experienced the Narrows unless you have felt the solitude of the Narrows. Because there are only a few campsites they limit the number of passes so you don't run into people until the next day.

I've been here for 23 years now, and I've been visiting for 20 years before that. This state has endless, and I mean endless, places to explore. From the surface of Mars around Hanksville, to the Candy Cliffs, to the High Uintahs, the west desert, the Might 5 national parks, the countless state parks, lakes, rivers, canyons, etc. UT is a difficult place to really wrap your head around.

The Narrows definitely needs to be done in the middle of summer otherwise it can be chilly with some of the wind, but it is definitely worth it, not overrated at all, especially if you’re going from the top to the bottom which is a pretty big commitment, but as you said, more beautiful once you get into the middle of it past the entrance with the crowds. The Narrows is awesome and beautiful. You just have to be prepared with proper shoes and clothing. Biggest key is, go first thing in the morning. You’ll be nearly alone and get to enjoy the canyon and the beauty of it. On the way out, so many people are crowding through it kills the experience. Key is, go early!

They have special neoprene socks, special shoes and dry suits you can rent to keep warm in the cold water when hiking The Narrows in Zion. If you're not prepared, then yes the cold would affect how you would rate that hike. With preparation you would have enjoyed it more. I didn't know the waters of Sand Hollow were so warm. I've lived near by much of my life and never been there. Thanks for the info. Great video! Thanks for sharing.

If you enjoyed Monument Valley, drive north a bit back into UT and you get Valley of the Gods. Which is extremely less popular, but no less beautiful. It's a sort of hidden gem where you'll have it pretty much to yourself. Also you get the Moki Dugway road you can drive up the huge cliff on for stunning views. The salt flats in the rain season are also stunning as they fill with very shallow pools of water that are super still and reflect the sky and horizon. It's extremely otherworldly. Angel's Landing is... impossible to describe. The hike itself, the view. The feeling of standing on a ridge 1,500 feet up that's only a few feet wide... unique in all the country.

If you're going to do The Wave... you really need to plan ahead. It's an extremely difficult one to get access to. As in you apply online and it's a lottery with zero guarantees. You can show up day of if you're really willing to risk it. Those chosen are given a map and a trailhead. And not many are allowed per day. It is insanely epic, but probably one of the most restricted hikes in the country. Like Mt St Helens levels of restricted.

You gotta go to the National Parks in the off season (December/Janaury) or shoulder seasons (late October/November, March/early April) if you want to avoid the crowds. Yeah you might need more clothing and some trails might be closed, but who wants Disneyland crowds?? And yes go to the lesser known places in Utah... there are 100's to discover. We did the Narrows (the narrowest section in Zion Canyon) in late January and rented dry suits and the foot gear and a walking stick at an outfitter and it was one of the coolest things we have ever done and with VERY few people. We wanna go back and go do the "Top Down" Narrows trek where you walk the whole river trail from the very top to the bottom and camp overnight.

Just watched your video, we’ll done! I’ve hiked the Zion Narrows from top to bottom twice. I know that you can’t do that any longer, but it’s seriously the best hike I’ve ever done. At one point, the tour boat has only an inch or two on both sides as it goes through narrow spots. At another place the boat had to back into a narrow spot in order to make progress toward the massive arch. It is one of the largest in the world. Rainbow Bridge is incredible!!!!!

@brianwhitten62313 жыл бұрын
There are 2 ways to do the Narrows: Bottom Up and Top Down (through hike). If you can get a permit to hike the Narrows Top Down it is epic. You'll need a shuttle from Springdale to get you to the trailhead. Then it's 16 miles of heaven as you follow the Virgin River through meadows into the deep slot canyon. You will only see people the last couple miles. Then head to Zion Lodge to celebrate your accomplishment.
@sharontucker2423 жыл бұрын
I hiked the Narrows in July 2017. It was awesome! We started at 6 am. We also rented special shoes, socks and walking stick. These are so essential to making this hike more enjoyable. On our way back around noon, we saw so many people and we were glad we got up early and got to enjoy the Narrows with fewer people around. Some people were wearing flip flops!! 😬 Hiking the Narrows is basically walking on rocks underneath water. You can’t see the rocks most of the time and that’s why the special boots and walking stick are so important. They help you navigate through the water without killing your feet and ankles. It was one of the most incredible hikes! Please try again and just be more prepared and you’ll enjoy it. 🙂

Love these, Utah has an abundance of locations to explore. The Narrows is one of our favorite in Zion. We'd recommend dressing warmer, bringing lunch and going down both paths further. It is worth the views with leaving the crowds! Another amazing slot canyon is just outside of st George, its headed north right off the highway called kanaraville falls. Similar setting as the narrows, without the crowds, but go in prepared. Pack a sweatshirt, check the weather and bring water and food. Also goblin valley has 2 beautiful slot canyons called little wild horse and bell that is a loop so you can hike a huge circle. These are just my favorites, but so many more to explore!

I'm always surprised to hear non-Utahns say Zie-ON national park. Never even thought to pronounce it that way till I heard tourists say it. We just say ZIE-uhn. Kinda like lion, not Lie-ON lol.
