In 1975, mum and i had a 15 day guided tour from Australia to the western United States. We had to fly from Sydney to Auckland New Zealand to pick up passengers. Then from Auckland to Papeete, Tahiti, where we had a three hour wait to change planes to fly to L.A. From LA to San Francisco, to Yosemite, to Bakersfield to Las Vegas to Grand Canyon then back to LA to Disneyland then back home to Sydney with a 3 day stopover in Papeete. We had to travel by coach, but we had plenty of stops along the way, and it was not uncomfortable . Our bus driver was very friendly and the passengers never complained. In San Francisco, we stayed at the Hotel Mark Hopkins, In Las Vegas it was the Circus Circus, and at the Grand Canyon we stayed at the Grand Canyon Squires Inn. At Anaheim it was the Sheraton Anaheim. We also saw the town of Calico, Hoover Dam, Universal Studios where "Bruce" the shark from Jaws was on display. At Las Vegas Frank Sinatra was performing at Caesars Palace. We also took a small plane flight over the Grand Canyon in a Piper aircraft. I took a lot of photos from the front of the Bus and when i was watching some recent driving videos on KZbin, i noticed something familiar with Interstate 15 just before it crosses over into Nevada. I found one of my photos showing the exact spot on the video when i paused it. The road had not changed. The same power poles were on the right. The same mountain range in the distance which started out high at the left and right of the screen before sloping down to the level of the road.and the same narrow patch of desert running along the base of the mountains on either side of the road. This was close to the town of Primmo. The only difference was the amount of cars and trucks on the road 49 years ago were few and far between...

Such an epic adventure! 🌄🚗 The landscapes and itinerary are absolutely perfect for a Western USA road trip. Which state or stop along the way surprised you the most? And if you had to pick just one must-see spot, what would it be? 😍

Those are hard questions! I think Arizona might have surprised us the most! It’s more diverse than we thought. And Sedona will always have a special place in our hearts 😌

Nice list. Well done. 👍 If you are on a budget, I'd recommend skipping Antelope Canyon and insert a less crowded and free slot canyon in Utah or Arizona. There are tons of great ones in the southwest.

But Antelope is the best! Upper or lower- they're both breath taking!
