@@theoutdoorempire for sure, same for washington and oregon. by the way the top removable piece on your woodlander stove is not for lighting or loading the stove with wood. it is for removing and putting a frying pan or pot over it for cooking. you get direct heat from the firebox that way. cast iron or high carbon steel pans and pots work best. just a FYI hint/tip my friend. i have the nomad, bigger fire box is why i got it. oh it is also a good idea to get the water tank for the stove. you have on demand hot water and it helps with keeping the tent more comfortable as a wood stove dry's out the air in the tent the water tank helps stop that and make it more comfortable.

Man, I love Idaho. I generally take a month or so to travel from here in Louisiana for some fly fishing. I love the the Mackay area and Copper Basin. It is close enough to Picabo (Silvercreek) and you can go the back way, through the mountains to Ketchum, which is always a fun experience. I have a small travel trailer with 10 ply tires, solar panels and well rigged for dispersed camping. However, I am seriously considering the Skyliner. There is just something about having a fire that completes the experience. Love your channel. Tip* When your axe fails to split, raise the axe and wood over your right should....wood pointing up, axe resting on shoulder, then come down onto the poll of the axe, the weight of the wood will usually be sufficient to complete the split. Of course, this really works well where you have a splitting round (18" tall or so}

@@WayneTheSeine Wow that sounds amazing! That is some beautiful country and good for you for exploring some mountains that not very many do. Most out of towners head straight for Sun Valley, Stanley and the Sawtooths and not much else. And yes, the Skyliner is pretty awesome. Hopefully you caught my review vid on it. And thanks a ton for the wood splitting tip, I'll try that. Cheers!

You should have put a tarp down first to protect the bottom of the tent from being damaged or snow from soaking through…. Another thing to consider next time you are out winter camping is to shovel snow up around the bottom of your tent after it has been set up, a lot of people do that and also recommend it to others. It is suppose to keep the wind from slipping under the tent as well as probably keep critters from getting any ideas about trying to get inside from underneath. To be honest, I am not sure about the critter part….but I have seen the snow piles being done. Not just around tents but also buildings as well.

I'm watching your video and paused to give you a couple dispersed free camping places I've been to. There are actually several free campsites for dispersed camping (not campgrounds) in Idaho within the national forest, but I haven't really wandered around there yet. I have camped at Granite Lake: there are 2 small tent sites, or vans/small truck spots. There is a part of the road on the mountain side that bigger vehicles like RVs can't pass the turn. Then there is rose lake in cataldo: highway 31 then take Watson Rd and turn left where the sign for the boat launch is. There are tent sites and RV/truck/van sites. Both of these places are dispersed, so there is no water or electric hookups. If you're more adventurous about water, you could always boil the lake the water and run it through a handkerchief or something to filter. Otherwise bring water. If I remember right, Granite lake has a portapotty by the 2 camp sites. Rose lake has a built in single use bathroom without water. I love both these places but am privy to rose lake: as a friend of mine lives on a different part of the lake. Where in Idaho are you from? I'm in CDA.

Add the springbar stormfly for snow or rain. It reduces drying time at home and adds a little extra warmth and extra stability in wind. Suggest ground cloth underneath tent to prolong life. I am trying enviologs to prolong burn time after going to sleep. This stove only burns about 1.5 hr before wood needs to be added. Secondary burn chamber improves performance a little. I added a heat generated fan to mine which works a little better. Overall this is excellent video of the benefits of this set up.

I am now curious what your affiliation is with this company? This is the cheaper version and verseaws model of thier hot tent? Is it waterproof and will not leak in the rain I spend 2 weeks back in Oklahoma bow hunting and the weather can be anything from cold wet rain for days on end to sleet all the way to t shirt weather. I need a tent I can go with my pup, not get my gear wet and be able to walk in and out of it.
@theoutdoorempire
@theoutdoorempire Жыл бұрын
I have no affiliation with this company and don't make any money if you buy something from them. They are not a sponsor or anything like that. They provided me a couple tents free of charge to test with no strings attached and I decided to do some reviews on them because I genuinely like them. A lot of companies wanna send free gear, but free gear doesn't pay the bills and I have plenty of it that I never talk about if I don't think it's interesting. Anyway, this is a great option for that hunting trip you have coming up in Oklahoma. And that StormFly they make is compatible with this tent if you want some extra assurance about keeping water out, but I've never had this one leak yet in rain or snow. My pup loves the tent, I can stand up inside, just fine, and so far, so dry. It's quite a bit cheaper than the Skyliner too, just not quite as voluminous inside and this one is made in China, not the USA.
