There is not a single tent anymore that I trust. If I buy a new tent no matter who it is from I check for seam tape and if none I do it myself. I also retreat tent with a waterproofer myself before even taking it out. I know my tent wont leak because I did it myself!

Yep, I took my 3 daughters to Myrtle Beach camping in a hoop/pole tent. The poles made hoops as they were passed through their sleeves. Staked out, the tent looked great, plenty of room. Then a big storm came, full on, from ocean to beach. It blew the tent flat to the ground, puddling in the folds. Watching, I told my young daughters to get in the car. “We’ll go out to eat and come back when the rain stops”. It was a heck of a storm. We went to Joe’s Crab Shack I think. Upon our return we gathered the still flat tent, our junk inside, and went to a hotel. We became a tarp family and never went back to the beach.

The tarp over the tent helps you stay warmer on cold, dry winter campouts. The black night sky chills the tarp surface very cold from radiative heat loss, but the tent under it has no direct view of the black sky, so your tent skin runs a little warmer. It works on hot days also, so you may be able to take an afternoon nap in your tent.

I’m not exactly shocked that this tent leaks. I would be suspicious of any pop up tent. I’ll bet it’s crap in the wind also. Ok a person could put a tarp over it in the rain but that’s not possible in some camp sites due to lack of trees and in any case many casual campers don’t have enough skills to set up a tarp.
@martinhafner2201
@martinhafner2201 Ай бұрын
You can often improve wind stability by running a cord through key points to keep the poles from moving around. That's typically inside the tent if the poles are inside and just outside the tent if the poles are more external. You can also lash the poles together at any points where they cross to stiffen it up for wind or snow load.

Luke, Understand back problems, as my Dad has suffered most of his life having fallen out of a tree as a young child, never got help. I have mild scoliosis never treated. I have had problems with L5, L4, L3- discs in my back. Did exercises to help L3 and L4. Now just have degenerating disc in L5. Some sciaticia. My Dad is the same with some same problems, but at 83, with bone on bone with his knees he is skating, and teaching young ones to skate and having a blast! I am so proud of him! He is my heroe and inspiration. I am 61, have a hospital bed in my bedroom, I write this from. but I am rehabing. You and Susie inspire me too. Love your videos. I am intested in easy pop up tents. I will be paying attention to this video. Praying for you both all the time! Blessings from Gresham Oregon, Michelle Reed

Thank you for your testing these products. I was looking at getting this tent because with my mobility issues, I’m a wheelchair user, setting up my current tent requires the help of friends. I thought this tent would be something I could do without help but since it didn’t perform well in rain I think I will stick with what I have currently. At least with my current tent I know myself and everything will stay dry even if the underside of my tent is like a waterbed.

Luke, no worries about the change of venue, you gotta do what your body can do, so later when your back is happy again, the backpacking trip can be done. In the meantime, we wanted to see the rain testing on this tent, so we are glad you did it early! We are not picky about location, but the adventures are always good…no matter if they are equipment testing or camping…

Hey Luke you really love that tent. I have a solution for you to totally waterproof the seams. Now it's going to take some ingenuity on your part because you're going to have to have a paintbrush and a mixing tool to mix these two products together until they become like a syrup. You'll need to buy either a quart or a half gallon of naphtha and one tube of clear silicone caulking. Use a bucket that doesn't matter if you throw it away. Preferably a plastic one. Pour The whole can of naphtha into the bucket and squeeze out the whole tube of clear silicon caulking into the bucket of Naptha. Attach a mixing paint stirrer to your drill and mix the ingredients until they become a syrup and all the caulking has mixed thoroughly. Now take your paintbrush after you have set up the tent and start painting and coating the seams thoroughly. Do this on a sunny day where there's no chance of rain and let it dry completely and you will have a totally waterproof tent. I have made several tarps using sheets polyester sheets and thoroughly soak them in this solution and hung them out to dry and now I have waterproof tarps.

As an actual storm chaser myself I enjoyed Twisters. The movie was meant to be corny and tongue-in-cheek, not a docu-drama about the science of tornadoes. There have been many attempts at more realistic knockoffs of the original Twister, but they have all flopped. Twister and Twisters adds a fun ‘twist’ to the world of storm chasing that makes it actually funny. so depending on how you go in with your expectations it’s definitely going to influence your opinion in the end. I seriously suggest you rewatch the movie at some point all the way to the end and enjoy it for what it is and not for what you expect. I guarantee you’ll like it.

I found the movie to be ultra stupid and unrealistic in the extreme. AND i never expected it to be realistic in the first place. It was basically the same formula for a Hollywood romcom…just change the names of the characters, but, i did not find it to be funny either. I, would have walked out of the theater also, if i had seen it in a theater. But i am happy some people enjoyed it. The family i saw it with enjoyed it also.

I'd guess that part of the problem is that the zip-up window covers are *inside* the screens. Rain can be trapped at the bottom of the window. I have a cheap amazon pop up tent of similar design, but the fabric window covers are on the outside of the screens, and I think it makes a difference. Also, I always spray cheap tents like this with silicone waterproofing, top and bottom.

Ok in this video it's a test in the rain. Most, tent campers predicted the results of the water resilience test of the tent. I'm not waiting to find out. No matter what the manufacturer claims, and how much the shelter costs, it's seam-seal every seam and then use the correct waterproofing solution for the entire rain fly and other parts of the exposed tent. In the video, the zipper system worked well. Good video. Thanks

I was not surprised it leaked. Popup tents seem to be fair weather only for the most part, regardless of their labeling. - Which brings me to another suggestion. On the Tents that failed in your testing - have you ever considered doing a series of videos where you make them waterproof after they have failed? Like adding seam tape, or otherwise modifying the tent. Something along the lines of "you can buy this tent for X amount, and then apply TOGR upgrades for X amount of dollars, and an X amount of time spent"

G'day Luke. Thank you mate for another great video. I have no doubt that tent probably is the number 1 tent in Korea because I think there is a bit of a cultural misunderstanding of the term 'camping' among Korean people and Westerners. I am married to a very beautiful Korean lady. I took her camping not long after we got married, and she was horrified that we stayed out overnight. She couldn't believe that we don't have mountain lions or bears in Australia. We often talked about Korean camping, and she said that I didn't understand. Well, eventually I did. I went to visit my wife's family in Korea a few years ago, and they wanted to go 'camping'. I was a little unsure about this because I didn't bring any camping gear. So this is what Korean 'camping' is about: You pack up the car in the morning with some food, some beers, a tent, and a small charcoal BBQ, you go out somewhere (preferably by the sea) and set up your tent. Then light up your BBQ, cook and eat lunch, and have a few beers. Then have a siesta before breaking down the camp in time to be back home before dinner. THAT is Korean camping. They were all surprised and didn't understand when I asked why they didn't stay overnight. Apparently, it's not a Korean thing. Another thing I found interesting is that you are NOT allowed to collect firewood from any public place. The wood on the ground belongs to the government. If you want firewood you must buy it. It was an interesting day, but still a good day.

You can stay high and dry in the cheapest most POS tents by pitching a 3x3 tarp over them. If you're smart about placement you can even give yourself a covered spot to sit and cook. Whether it's a $28 Stansport tent or some top of the line brand, they can't leak if they don't get wet

I can empathize with you with the back issues. I initially hurt my back while I was in the Air Force in Germany in the mid-late 70s, but it didn't become a problem until much later when it showed up as a herniated disk between L4 and L5. Fast forward to 2010, I fell about 20 feet from a latter and had non-displacing fractures of L2 and L4. My back has not been the same since. I can sneeze hard and get a back spasm. So I can truly understand your pain, my friend. Motrin and a heating pad or rice are frequently my best buds.

Great video! Well, not surprised it is leaking badly. Since it doesn't have a rain fly and unsealed seams I was expecting the outcome to be exactly the way you found it. Thanks for a great review!

You could always team up with a Chiropractor who has a good YT following & collab. Take an X-ray, have a treatment & let your viewers know how it went. I once thought Chiro's were all quacks. Then I met one who wasn't & that was life changing. Love to hear your opinion.

I feel ya Luke. A back injury is no joke once youve had one it seems to be lurking around the corner waiting to bite for the rest of your life! Physio exercises are the only relief for me. I didnt have high hopes for that tent so not surprised it failed. Im liking that cooker more n more for car camping...pity the gas tube doesnt thru the flame for bottle inverting and cold weather performance...whats the lowest temp youve had it in and still ok? Keep up the good work.

Seems like pretty luxurious camping to me. Having the option of a vehicle seems like not much of a hardship. Every tent requires a tarp when it comes to any rain forecast, let alone rain. It’s also the simplest thing you should carry. Sometimes a shovel to dig trenches is a great piece of equipment to bring as well.

I bought a Quechua and you get what you pay for I guess, was out in Smokies and it rained all night and even flash flooded Dollywood. My tent leaked too with pooling on the floor. Down the sides too. I had a foam mattress on top of foam gym floor pieces and I stayed dry. I hate you pulled your back. Sounds like mine….herniated 2 disks. Did extensive PT and Electrical stimulation called a TENS Unit. Ended up buying one on Amazon. PT was using it on me. Lifesaver.

I had back issues and inversion therapy worked for me as it eases the pressure of gravity on my nerves and the disks in my spine. Hope you feel better soon. I would like to see how Night cat pop up tent 2P(PU 2000mm) and Ayamaya pop up tent 4P(PU 3000mm) put up with harsh weather condition. "Night Cat Pop Up Tent 2 Person Waterproof Throwing Tent" and "4 Person Pop Up Tents for Camping - AYAMAYA Waterproof Instant Family Tents with Skylight & Removable Rainfly, Upgraded Large Size with 2 Doors -Automatic Easy Setup Beach Tent with Poles" It will be interesting to watch. Take care!

Irony. As I watch this is am recovering from Lumbar Decompression Fusion surgery as a result of a 9th grade gym class injury where I broke my L5. I lived with it a long time as I am now 66. My goal is to return and finish the last 800 miles of the Appalachian Trail. God bless for your speedy recovery.

As a back injury survivor I can relate. I injured mine in 1993 when I ruptured 2 disk. At 63 I still get some discomfort from sitting or standing for long periods, but it doesn’t deter my daily activities just have to be careful.

Hope you're feeling better soon. I've had some bad back pain in my younger days that was the worst. I hope you the best and wish you fast healing. I like the tent in your video but as soon as you showed the seams I knew it would leak. So, small price but must spend money on your own waterproof sealing. Thanks for the review.
