2 years ago I reviewed the original NB10000 from NiteCore and I loved it! It was and still is one of the lightest weight power banks out on the market; while my review was very positive I did have a few suggestions to improve the product.
Two years have passed and NiteCore has a new Generation 2 version and I’ve been testing it out for the last couple of weeks and in this episode, I’ll be sharing my thoughts.

Review Pros :
Extremely lightweight - one of the lightest on the market
Very small power bank - takes up no space in my pack
Excellent quality
No issues with charging : no glitches experienced
Excellent waterproofing : IPX5 rated water resistant - there are other channels completely submerging these are they keep working
Looks great, feels great, feels very sturdy even though it is so lightweight
I like the yellow rings that surround the ports
It recharges quickly too; from one bar flashing to full charge in around 3.5 hrs with a good wall charger.
Can dual charge - charge two devices or charge a single device while charging the power bank -
Good capacity - With my average overnight trip, I can charge my phone and run a led light at camp for hours with energy left over.
Reliable : My experiences with the Gen 1 have been perfect - I’ve used it one every single trip that I’ve been on over the last 2 years; that’s at least one trip per week and I’ve never had a single problem. All of the ports work, I haven’t noticed any battery degradation, no swellings, etc and I expect no issues with this Gen 2 model. Nothing so far with almost a month of use.
Review Cons :
Dual Charing is nice but when charging two devices at the same time, neither is at fast charging speeds because both channels are being used.
: Improvements Made and What I would still like to see :
Made -
The company improved the power indicators; previously it was in the power switch and was difficult to read. The separate indicators on the new version is much better.
They raised the USB C charging port from 18W to 20W.

I use the Anker 10000 slim version and I have used extensively for the past 3 years and I have noticed some drop off . I used to get two full charges on my cell plus be able to charge my mini air pump for inflating my pad and using the light on it for inside my tent. I can get one full charge and another full charge as long as it is above 30% . For half the price and a ounce or 2 more it has served me well. Thanks always for your honest reviews Luke.

I have been using the NB10000 original version and it works great. I just added the larger NB20000 since I am now using a drone. Very happy with them both. Downside is you pay a bit extra for the light weight. I will continue to carry both. Love their flashlights too. Love the NU25 with the bungie cord headband. Super light weight and simple to use.

Just got two for the weight savings (Thru-hiker), but was actually surprised when I got them in my hands. Dang they really are small! My last ones were the lightest Ankers, and these things are noticeably smaller. I was a bit concerned about how trustworthy they would be vs Anker (Which always have solid quality), but then I thought, "Wait, NiteCore!, the same guys who make the excellent headlamps. Nevermind, these should be great!" Btw, I looked at the 20k one as well, but I decided on two 10k ones, they are actually lighter as a pair, and you have some redundancy in case one fails, you at least have the second one. Not that I expect them to fail.

I did same & have Same thoughts. Plus you have access to two of each A & C ports. (not sure if both Cs work as Output or just One works on the 20K) And like you said, if one goes out you still have access to 10k

I have two of the original version and use them for camping, trekking, hiking, biking, ... basically every activity where I do not have consisten access to a power source. I primarily use them to recharge my phone. Using my phone in power saving mode only as a camera, I get 3-4 days out of it with being able to re-charge it about two times with each powerbank. Getting about two weeks of power for my phone on a trip from that low weight is abolutely amazing. Thre is basically no gear setup where I cannot add one or two of them somehow.

You should check out a company called Lander. I have been using their power banks/lights for a while now and have come to really like them! Give them a look, may be impressed with the products (not to mention it’s a smaller company and I don’t see many people using them).

I like thin power banks cause of the slimness. They are easily slide in cargo pockets in my combat shorts and pants. Because the bulky type tend to expand my pockets more.

I have a nano Juice 10000mAh and it was under 20bucks at sam’s with a wireless charger 6.5 oz. Good review Luke and I am sure nitecore charges faster than my juice and the 1.2oz might make a difference if I was backpacking for 15 miles

I have 2 powerbanks, the first one I got is super heavy but it has a fold out solar panel for trickle charging and a wireless charging pad. The second one just has a solar panel on one side of the power bank, and it's like half the weight of the first one, but has the same charging capacity (20,000 MaH) and both have 2 USBA ports and the bank's charging port, which is micro USB but most of my devices still use micro and not type C so that's fine. They also both have a flashlight mode too, but the heavy one has a square on the side of the bank, so you have to hold it up in front of you to use the light and it's heavy. The lighter one has 2 lights on the end of the bank, not the side, so you can hold it in your hand at your side like any flashlight. The lights are bright and they last a long time before they even start draining the battery. The heavy one has bright, dim, and SOS morse code modes. The lighter one has bright, dim, and strobe-light-defense modes. I'm able to charge 2 phones (my serviced phone has an unusable camera and the phone I use for camera has no service so I have to have both on me), for up to 3 days if I use both of them, longer if it's sunny and I can charge them all day by moving them wherever the sun is. ANd both cost more than 20 but less than 35 dollars (I think the lighter one was slightly more expensive), very reasonable for the use I get out of them. Also once I brought a friend and he had a solar panel charger from Harbor Freight where he works, he said they don't sell this model anymore, but it was a solar panel folded in half with a stand and two USB A outputs, I was able to charge both my power banks and both my phones with his solar panel in a matter of 3 or 4 hours of morning sunlight, it was a beast, it has a meter on the back that tells you how many volts of output it's doing too (it was doing about 1.5 V when I was charging 2 devices). The only thing bad is you have to be careful because it gets very hot and can hurt your hand a little if you just grab it without thinking, like it can't burn you but especially here in AZ the black solar panel in front gets hot enough to cause pain if you aren't ready for it. But I didn't care, thing was amazing.

I have the Gen 2 for months now , its a must for lightweight trips , the power is just right, not too small , & for longer trips just recharge using an Rav power solar charger. Was taking the Anker power banks before , although they are qulity products the weight of these & others is a no no.

Only seems competitive in the market if you are looking for the lightest and with ipx5 rating. It has slow input charge, pricey for last years tech. The industry moved to using gan which allows greater input and output in a smaller footprint.

It's a gimmick. It's not even pure carbon fiber. Likely they heavily mixed it with other cheaper type of plastics.

Curious how it compares to the Carbo version. I am particularly interested in the 20k MaH version. I'm between the Anker 5 series and the Carbo, which is a couple ounces lighter but more than double the price. Leaning Anker just because of their reputation, and I've heard another reviewer that had issues with Nitecore. But that 2 ounces is a lot..

Here's a weird thing... the NB20000 weighs 324.5g, according to several websites, whereas the NB10000 weighs 150g. So if you need more juice, it is slightly more expensive, but the more lightweight option is to carry x2 NB10000s. Seems a bit odd 😆

I do wonder how it performs in cold weather, though. How does it handle temperature around minus 20? Have you used it on your winter adventures?

I don't see anywhere on Nitecore's site as to what kind of battery it uses. Part of me suspects Lithium Polymer, which in my experience with bike lights with Li-Po batteries, are absolutely terrible under 45 degrees.

You said a 2000 mAh version. Do you mean 20000? I’ve the 5000 gen one version. Good for 2-4 days if you’re not too hard on the phone. (I do not film etc…) That is a really light and small! beaty. But i believe the 10000 is more energy/weight (150 vs 117), but twice the price!

I have a 5000 mAh battery in my S22 Ultra. I'll be going out on a thru hike next summer that will be roughly 14 days with no civilization from end to end. I'll definitely need something that will give me 13 to 14 recharges . . . I'm sure my inReach will make it fine, and I'll have 2 headlamps, so that shouldn't be an issue (I assume . . lol) . I would think that this nitecore powerbank would only give a 5000 mAh battery 1 charge and maybe a partial. Any suggestions?

You'll get reduced performance with pretty much any battery once temperatures drop. Best thing you can do is keep it in an inside coat pocket so your body will keep it warm.

Ive been using the gen 1 model for years, I currently own 2 gen 1s. I've read that people get no where close to the advertised 10,000 mAh. I personally can maybe get 2 full charges from my phone before it goes flat.

As a rule of thumb you only get about 70-80% of the advertised power. This is due to the step change in voltage between the batteries and the various outputs required

I bought this power bank and was very disappointed. It is a very nice and small device. But three things no one mentions. 1. When I use 20w charging for a phone or tablet, the power bank gets extremely hot. I estimate the temperature to be over 55°C. 2. Because the power bank heats up like this, its efficiency will not be good, but I did not measure the efficiency. 3. When the last LED started to light up, the voltage of the powerbank started to drop from 12.03v to approx. 11v and then shut off even though it wasn't fully discharged.

Yeah, I agree that's not really "big improvement", it's like minor user comfort improvements. Now a big improvement is if they stepped it up from 10000 to like 15000 or 20000 MAH, that would be big. If ou can't make the product lighter or charge devices longer, or add something revolutionary like a solar panel trickle charge ability, there's not much else to improve except how it looks, because that's the main needs of the item and they didn't change the solution to those main needs at all.

10000mah for 3.7v. Phones are mostly on 5v so do the math. Smartwatch is generally on 3.7 so it has the full capacity of the charger.

Does it charge by the usb-c port? If so, you technically lose that port for output use while the device is charging only leaving you the usb-a to actually use

@Ohio Guns & Deals, I have the Gen1 and charging the PB is through the USBC (it is input and output port) so I don’t see them changing this on Gen2. For USBA, at least this PB allows pass-thru charging, so you can use a USBA male to USBC male adapter if you have Android phones with USBC. Better yet, a company called Rolling Square sells the latest inCharge XL cables that has USBA + USBC male to USBC/Lightning/USB Micro male. It comes in 30cm/12in or 200cm/80in (~6.7ft) or 300cm/120in (~10ft). I love these cables when there is no QC issues as I don’t need to bring many cables and they have magnets to attach them to your packs. It is also rated at 100W so you can use them to charge your laptops or higher rated devices. Pairs great with this lightweight PB from Nitecore. Ordered 3 of them and they’re on their way.

The gen one status, LEDs were absolutely horrible. Nearly impossible to see in the daylight. The gen two is a huge improvement on these LED lights.
