Step by Step Luke makes his way through the forest....
Then thunder is heard.
He hurries to pitch his tarp as rain drops begin to fall.
At 4pm in the afternoon, the forest becomes as dark as midnight.
Lightning flashes as the winds arrive and rain is blown horizontally.
A Flash Flood Warning is issued.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued.

Hi Luke! Thanks for the COOL (well not for you in that tent!) adventure! It was a graphic illustration why all that fabric is a BAD idea in temperate climes. You could see the air trying to flow through, but the fabric just bellowed toward the inside of the tent! No wonder you had to have the door open! I am forever stumped why at least two times a year (4th of July and New Years) that people stupidly want to blow themselves (and maybe someone else, too) up. . .I work nights, and pretty much only have these holidays off only twice in seven years. So I always have to drive to work just after the sun has gone down. And all you hear is popping and explosions. This year all the smoke from those dangerous things was like a low hanging fog, as I drove to work! INCREDIBLE! Leave the pyrotechnics to the EXPERTS. I guess, though, our American freedoms allow you to be as stupid as you want to. Amazing.

WOW! This is my absolute favorite kind of camping. A nice long thunderstorm . Nothing like it! I like the pre- made meals you make. Although I've never tried them, they look scrumptious. Especially the biscuits and gravy ones. There's just something about camping all night in the woods with a nice cozy tent setting with thunder and lightning ⚡ So relaxing! Thanks for sharing Luke! P.S. I want to meet Drew. He sounds like he liked to take chances! LOL😂😊

Incredible watching your camping alone adventure video this afternoon today! Wow, I was surprised how dark the forest became during this summer mountain thunderstorm. Once a Christian male friend and I went camping in remote New Hampshire in a dense Pine tree forest, after we set up our tent, a severe thunderstorm with strong winds arrived about 6-7pm, we decided to leave our campsite after so many tree branches were falling down near our campsite, and torrents of heavy rains was causing minor rural flooding on our country road, when we were driving slowly down the mountain road, avoiding tree branches in the road, we spontaneously marveled and laughed with the LORD, and each other, when we saw large bullfrogs gathering together on the paved road, they were everywhere, more than 25, less than 60, I would drive carefully and stop, and we would gather them and toss them into our backseat, these were mammoth size bullfrog, we must have had 6-8 in the backseat of my car. We kept them and released them further down the road. To this day, I have never seen so many bullfrogs gathering on a country road after a summer rainstorm. Great video, Luke

That's the same weekend I chose to backpack at my local state park. 111 heat index, 99% humidity, and that storm system. I wasn't dry the entire trip. I was either soaked because of rain or sweat. The only time I was dry was in the tent staying still. Funny thing, I sacrificed the remaining power from my power bank to keep my small camp fan running. It made all the difference.

I have seen preemptive flood warnings. I used to live in a flood plain along the Missouri River. Usually the flood warning was preceded by flooding further up on the river or a release of water from a dam up north to prevent flooding in a more populated area.

Never a leak. And we camped in some real frog-stranglers especially on the prairie. Glad we did it back then cuz we don’t have the wherewithal now.

You take me places where I have never been and probably will never be. I did, however, spend days camping with the military where I slept on the ground in a pup tent. I would not be able to do that today. Old age has snuck up on me and grabbed me in its clutches. Such is life! I would like to invite you to try camping in Minnesota some time.
