Decathlon is very popular here (Belgium and the Netherlands), i often go there. Their own brands specially Forclaz and Solognac are unreal value compared to the competition. And the design team really knows their stuff! I feel like they use all of their products for a long time and try to improve on them every time. Genius store!

Haven't finished watching yet, but my son got given one of these bags over a year ago by the owner of the store he worked at (CT in Canada, to use the initials, as it's a well known automotive and sporting goods store). It was the Christmas bonus that everyone who worked there got one of these packs stuffed full of food and kit. The amount of stuff he was pulling out of his pack when he got home was phenomenal, including a 25lb turkey, and even more incredible, he said that he had no problem getting around with it on (2 buses to get home after work bc we didn't have a car at the time). We've both used it over the 18 months he's had it and it's absolutely the most comfortable pack, even when you're working with issues like I have - fibro, back injuries, etc. I was so surprised, I wanted to get one myself, but lol The boss had cleared out their entire stock. Sadly we've moved back to the UK so he doesn't work there anymore, but he's still got his pack, and uses it all the time. I would definitely recommend this pack. It's seriously good value.

you consistently give the best reviews. decathlon is almost always the best value, here in singapore as well. it doesnt cater to the highest end market (e.g. professional alpinist, climbers etc.) but decathlon has a solid understanding of their target market and makes a product that really hits the mark. keep up the good work!

It's very funny to see an American (or I don't know but you seem american) talking about a Decathlon product, let me tell you my opinion on this company. Decathlon is a French company created in 1976, it has shops in France, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Germany and maybe others. Here in Belgium there are a lot (more than in any other country) of young folks enrolled as "scout", we have our own type of scout, it is different from other countries and it's not related to religion or some political beliefs. Every single scout of Belgium goes to Decathlon to buy his gear for the summer camp. I'm 23 and back when I was a kid they were selling low cost low to average quality gear. But now they really stepped up and they provide low to excellent quality gear and always for the lowest price. I have a similar 60L backpack from 2011, I have a tent from 2007 still using both every summer. I'm a big fan of Decathlon (even though it's a big company now). It seems that they really try to improve their products based on the feedback of their customers.

I've had the forclaz 100 90L since your review a couple of years ago for the 55L because the 90 was the only one in stock. These bigger (but inexpensive) backpacks with the extra volume allow a beginner to purchase bulkier sleeping bags and other gear that may not have compression bags, which ultimately saves even more money. I got a teton sports 0 degree sleeping bag that works great for keeping warm, but it takes up a lot of space since I didn't want to spend several hundred dollars for a smaller sleeping bag. I've found that many bulky sleeping bags weigh about as much as the smaller and more expensive bags, the former just takes up much more volume, but that's not a problem when you have 90L capacity LOL

During the first couple of years when COVID19 hit, there were tons of travel restrictions, you could not just hop on a plane so people started finding other ways to spend their vacations. In Canada, we saw a HUGE influx of campers, you could not reserve most of the time cause the campsites were full for the year! My point is this, since COVID, camping supplies and merchandise has skyrocketed in price, double, triple and even quadrupled in some cases here in Canada. It is so nice to see a manufacturer offer a quality product at such a reasonable price-point. Other companies need to smarten up. Over the years, I have become a TRUE TETON Sports fan-boy. I recently bought a new tent, the MOUNTAIN ULTRA 3-PERSON TENT (plenty of room for me, my gear and never a leak or drop in it) and this I use for my Kayak adventures with my friends. the ALTOS 0 DEGREE DOWN-FILLED MUMMY SLEEPING BAG (more than enough warmth on cold fall nights) and the TETON Sports Explorer 4000 backpack (my old pack was finished). I LOVE TETON Sports products, for the price, the quality of material and craftsmanship, I don't think anyone else can come close. This looks like a great bag and I am kinda pissed that I didn't see it sooner cause like you, I am not a HUGE fan of multiple pockets, I prefer one large space. BUT hey, it is what it is and I am happy with it but KUDOS to Decathalon, I hope other companies follow! And as always great review bro, I rely on these to keep me informed so keep up the good work, you are appreciated!

I have had it on 2 different treks of 57 miles and 65 miles in the Sangre de Cristo mountains in northern New Mexico. On the 65 mile trek I left base camp with a pack weight of 62 lbs and returned with 49. I have used it on weekend hikes at least once a month until 2014. It has shown no signs of failure so far. If it ever fails, it is good to know about packs like yours so I could replace it with a budget. I probably will never carry 62 lbs. into the woods any more because of my age.

I'm considering this backpack but I'm a little concerned by front access zipper. While it seems to be amazing feature due to ease of access to your gear, it also looks like a potential weak spot - if the zipper breaks, your gear will just fall out and backpack will be useless. It doesn't seem to have any backup option, like front straps or cordage that would help keeping your gear in the case of zipper failure. 10-years guarantee is comforting, but perhaps you could share your opinion as to zipper durability in this backpack?

Thank you for this review. Both my sons are in scouts one being a Cub about to cross and the other already in the main Scouts. They both have a different size pack for their size and have already done week long camps with them. I am one of the leaders for the pack and because our camping style is closer to car camping I have used my old military duffel bag for a lot of it. Was looking at various packs for the older style of scout camping and seeing a lot of them start at $300 plus is a problem. I have mobility problems so I know I am not doing the big hikes with them but seeing how affordable this pack is this is right down my alley as I am not investing a lot of money for something that I will not get the full use of. Also as they get bigger I can let them use it.

Some of Decathlon's stuff is indeed good for the buck - they had a running waterproof jacket that I liked a lot, but I gifted it to a friend. A couple of down jackets that I have are nice, but I really also like the pants and fleece jacket that I have from their Solognac brand which mainly targets hunters. They don't try to be high end and they need to be... but they do make you think twice before going for the high end, which I like.

I have MT900 70 liter and I can attest, that it's probably the most comfortable big backpack that I've ever worn. Especially that it leaves a massive gap on your back for airflow, so you don't sweat there. There are 2 reasons why I had to switch to a different one though: It's too big for airline overhead luggage. If it was slightly shorter, but wider, it would fit there And the second: since I carry camera with me, back access is almost a must, especially with a camera cube that has drone and mirorless. Otherwise - this one is the best

Decathlon is a fantastic company and if they had more store presence in the US (I believe there is only one store in CA), they would crush all REI and other outdoor companies in a heartbeat. Their products are well-thought (their R&D department is actually very legit), well-priced and they already benefit from vast presence outside the US where everyone knows the brand.
@mikeoverway6587 Жыл бұрын
Appreciate the review; well done! I had heard of the puffy jackets but never considered Decathlon's other stuff. This certainly has me considering the pack. Checked it out online; the 50L looks about the same, just a smaller lighter package (3.5lb), possibly more in my desired size range. The air 50+10 is also a very interesting option (3.7lb). "Just about every feature you can image, including features you don't commonly see on backpacking systems." I would point out these missing items: dual hip belt pockets (the air pack has them), dual angled water storage pockets, balanced top loading side pockets, exterior rear mesh pocket (the air pack seems to have an exterior rear pocket, but not mesh), 2nd horizontal strap across shoulder straps (for additional securing of bladder straw, possibly other uses, as seen on the air pack), the description says "ventilated back", I presume this to be due to the separation of upper on lower back supports. However, this is not the same as the 'trampoline' or mesh supports seen on the air 50+10 (or some osprey packs, among possibly others). Final and largest concern, the website does not seem to list, or at least not easily noted, the min/max torso lengths. As a way above average height individual, I push the upper limits for gear length. It would be nice to know the max without reaching out to the company. For the bulk of people, along with the 50L and the air 50 +10, these seem like really nice durable options.

Great video - I think the thing that holds Decathlon products like this back in terms of general awareness is their very very low level of marketing spend (even in Europe where they're based), and the incredibly unfocussed range of products they sell. Forclaz is a Decathlon brand but it sits in among about 9 other decathlon brands plus however many other brands they carry. The pack is great - I have had one for 3 years now, and it's done about 1000 miles of trekking from the UK, to Japan, to Kyrgyzstan. It's still great, no physical failures. Forclaz also makes an excellent 2 person tent that is definitely not a copy of a much more well known, expensive tent... But then they make some GARBAGE products like those terrible quick hike tents and some of their insanely heavy, sloppy backpacks. Pity, hides the gems.

@@olivierdumais6463 Well no need for the secrecy as looking it up I see they have done another CLASSIC decathlon sh*t move and rereleased it with a new name and higher price... It's now called the Forclaz MT900 and seems to have gained 500g on the old version I have (now saying 1.95kg vs 1.3kg for the old TREK 900). Otherwise looks the same and, also, is a complete copy of the MSR Hubba Bubba (1.85kg) - but for half the price. Also it is way less fragile than the MSR original, and has an integrated groundsheet for the door areas. Friends MSR got tears from small rocks, gravel, the poles poking it... the Decathlon copy is much more resilient.

My packs are Mystery Ranch packs and both use the same frame so I have one frame for both packs. I’m a big game hunter and I need a space to carry meat out of the backcountry, a meat shelf. This pack looks similar to my Pintler but has the capacity of my Metcalf….but no meat shelf or any other way to carry meat. I also prefer and external frame.

Damn you Luke! I had to order it because of this video. I have an expensive military style bag that I ordered because I like the colors. Using it feels like I have an MMA fighter riding me in a rear naked choke. I don’t like the color of the decathlon bag, but I had to order it because I’m tired of getting beat up.

LOL! I feel the same

If you really want a camouflage or army coloured pack, you could get a rain cover for one of the military packs and put it over this one? But I kind of agree, Decathlon should stock this one in olive or sand colour which they are already offering on their smaller packs. The same goes for their tents.

been using this for more than a year, and my only complain is such large backpack when put on heavy load they exerts a tremendous rearward force on a petite physique like mine. A detachable hood compartment to be occasionally worn in the front would make it perfect. I wish I could modify one.

Wow, very impressive on the torso leng adjustment.

Decathlon has killer bang-for-buck in pretty much all price ranges. In Europe it dominates everything but high-end super specific gear.

It is an amazing backpack. I have the bigger one for several years and never had issues with it. It is also very comfy at least for people who are big like me. Thanks for the review and the video.

Kelty has had that torso adjustment for ever. Not taking anything away from Decathlon.

It is a great backpack, and amazing the difference between being able to carry 40-60 liters, and being able to carry 70 liters. The 70 gets you to the point of carrying a camping chair, a few extra clothes, more food, etc. I have never been able to backpack with a 40 liter pack; it is just not big enough. Great product at a good price.

Some people with 40 l backpack say that they can fit all items inside. But in real life they have plenty of gear attached outside.

@@stonehill27 , yeah playa... I hear ya. I personally just can't backpack in with less than 50 liters. I REALLY.... want my camping chair. God knows I have done enough camping trips withOUT one. I sure do like HAVING one. Plus, I want more water, and food. I'm not going into the forest already light on gear, food, shelter, bedding. arms, and more. Plus, I want a DOG to go out there with me nowadays. There is no tellin' what the hell is in these thickest woods of Dixie, and I know.... he will do his best... to protect us both.

Love Decathlon, first came across it when I was working in Toulouse back in 2008, still a massive fan of their gear. Only yesterday I bought a load of base layers for Autumn hiking, their Solange range of gear and pants are just as good as Fjallraven and a 1/3 of the price

The sole benefit of my metal frame pack is the pocket on one side to hold the butt of a rifle. I dont usually have the need for it - i dont hunt much - but in some back country a 30.06 is... Well, its like the teddy bear we all used to sleep with.

I bought it last year and didn't use it much, but as far as I've used it I 100% agree with you. I frequently look out for Decathlon's innovations because I think this is one of the most ingenious company, looking out for every detail added to be useful.

We have a Decathlon shop here in Telford Shropshire, seemingly some decent equipment, I have only used army surplus before.

Decathlon also do a 50 litre version of the same bag (in a rather boring grey) which is an excellent 3-season long weekend outdoor pack (without the temptation 70 litres offers to stuff in more than you need!)

After seeing the review for this backpack a year ago or something I got it last august. (To be more accurate the 50L version) This backpack is so great. It's only the 50L version and I can fit in clothes, water, food, for not only me but my also my 2 dogs, camera, camera equipment, a full emergency pack, has an easy access to get to everything fast.. I strap all the dog stuff I need on the outside and am good to go. Only downside I have (with mine at least) is the weight it can carry. It's not getting uncomfortable at all, however it seems like the bands loosen up fast and I have to rearrange them every other km. Nonetheless, if you are on a budget or even not and just want to make a really good deal I tell you, get that backpack.
