Review Pros :
The quality of this pack has been excellent with my use and at no point have I had any issues even when in remote areas in the middle of winter storms with very cold conditions.
Excellent price - for the money these in my opinion easily beats out lower cost backpack options such as the Teton Sports Scout 3400. Speaking of which, the Scout 3400 runs around $70 and I would highly recommend looking at this pack when compared to it; this is substantially a better product and is worth the additional dollars.
Plenty of space.
Plenty of pockets for organizing.
I like the color combination
Dedicated sleeping bag pocket with divider.
Front access is smartly designed and features dual zips which is an awesome idea; you can unzip from the bottle without having to detach the lid. Zippers are very secure; have never opened on their own.
Includes a rain cover - gray, not brightly colored?
The gray color is neutral and therefore uses less dye. The component is made of BITON: this process allows us to lower our carbon footprint and reduce the consumption and water pollution in comparison to the colored models. These small measures demonstrate the commitment of Forclaz to improve the environmental impact of its products.
10 Year Warranty
Excellent adjustment system - fully adjustable in every way that a user would want.
Slanted water bottle pocket - easy to access and easy to put your water bottle back into.
Good size hipbelt pocket - it’s actually usable and is fairly large. Large enough to hold even a large size phone
Review Cons :
My only real con for this backpack is slight and deals with the harness padding; it has taken roughly 3 good hiking adventures for it to soften up; initially it was firm and rough...noticeably rough.
Summary :
For the money, this is one of the best backpacks that I have tested and for value oriented individuals who have a budget around $100, this is the pack that I would easily recommend. As I mentioned before, it is better...substantially better than lower cost options such as the offerings from Teton Sports. When you compare the two packs, it is a night and day difference in terms of feel; the materials are strong, the pack is better made, it’s a smarter design that feels unique where as most of the products from Teton Sports for example feels copied and pasted from many other companies.
All in all, I’m very impressed with this pack and it is one that I would have no problem grabbing for just about any trip. It’s not the lightest backpack but it is feature rich, well thoughtout and comfortable. The EasyFit suspension is excellent and actually works and it doesn’t cost you any time to make adjustments.

I like how "Agenda Free" also means "Not only expensive stuff" on this channel. I'm a big fan o decathlon, I think they have some gear that is very good for the price. For most of the gear I've seen/used, you pretty much get what you pay for. But there are some outliers, in either direction. Most of my starting gear was from decathlon and some of it is still in my rotation. Nice one Luke!

I think there are always outliers on the high price side. Very, very seldom do you get what you pay for when you just buy the most expensive product. Almost always is there something just as good or better for less.

Currently Out of Stock! I looked at many of their other product categories, and no stock, or low stock issues seem to be a general theme with Decathlon, depending upon your size. I have six backpacks between 43 and 60 liters, plus several smaller day packs, or hydration type of backpacks. Some are higher priced like the Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60, which I purchased on sale for around $200. Most of my other backpacks were purchased in the $50 to $120 range, from companies like Gregory, and Kelty. I keep trying to find the perfect backpack, and it seems the closest that I have gotten are the packs that have adjustable torso length, and harnesses like the Decathlon. That would be my Gregory Stout 45, which I really like, and the Kelty Redwing 50, which is a little heavy, and though adjustable, the torso length adjustment does not seem as simple as the Decathlon 70. I would like to try the Decathlon 70, but it seems quite heavy, so that is my only real caveat now. I have heard that sometimes heavy packs like the Osprey Atmos 50 which is over four pounds empty, actually feel more comfortable to catty than a twp pound pack, because of a superior suspension. Due to what I have heard from others, the Osprey Atmos 50 is also on my radar. I'm currently starting to test the Granite Gear and Massdrop X 60 backpack collaboration, and the Dan Durston Design and Massdrop collaboration backpack which I picked up recently for a total of $210 delivered! So far the Granite Gear pack feels real good, but need to test under a load while walking. Maybe this will be the pack of my dreams.

Enjoyed the review to the point of looking up the pack on their site. Not really wanting a 70L pack was ok, they're not even in stock. The 60L that was listed is in the women's format? So I seriouly eyeballed the 50L. Looked good. Waited till this morning to give it another consideration...not even on there now?! Overnight, gone. Did ask for notification on the restock, but that was on the 70L. The restock notification wasn't available for the 50L. Is this common for the company? Thanks for all you do with outdoor gear reviews!

Decathlon over here in Europe are great value, an all round sports retailers for pretty much every sport. Some of their stuff isn’t ultra light but for example I have a reflective seat mat cost next to nothing weighs 57 grams. Plus if I go from the uk to continental Europe and I obviously can’t take my gas canister on the plane they have a shop in most major towns and cities so straight off the plane straight there to pick up supplies. Always worth a look if you need something as they are hard to beat on price and value.

I confirm, they cater to the summer only family hikers. Those who want cheap gear to go hiking several times in the year. So used to ditch my decathlon gear when I find lighter stuff from known brands. It's the same thing with their tents, their customers aren't picky hikers like me but the average Joe who needs a tent to go to a concert once a year. So they had that heavy and mediocre image. But lately they've been doing better gear, getting new ideas, made modular stuff, started to make lighter tents and better backpacks.

Regarding your comment about not being able to take your gas canister on the plane, well, it sounds like you should invest in a Trangia 27, as methylated spirits is often far easier to come by than a suitable gas canister..

I picked one of these up after some research (including this vid) and I have been very happy with it, I retired my main use 80L bag as a result. I didn't notice any roughness on the shoulder straps/pads, I may have been wearing a thicker shirt but there were no issues my first time out. Very comfortable even at a higher weight as I tend to use the available space and it carried everything well. I forgot about the side zip pocket when I packed it the first time and found it a good place to store many different items from empty bags (pack out garbage bag) to water bottles when I rediscovered it on the trail. The inside of the lid with the rain cover is also large enough to place some items you may be looking to protect a little more, so it really acts like another protected pocket. Very happy with this pack and the 10 year warranty made it a good safe buy. - Excellent review and recommendation, very on the nose for this product.

How compact is the trek 100? I got the trek 50 because it fits into the cargo pocket of any british military smock, or comercial lookalike. On the other pocket lives a buff, a pair of thin liner gloves, a beanie, and a neck tube (everything inside ziplock bags).

@cobbler88 3 жыл бұрын
@@VictorGarciaR I'll use the universal measure for backpackers, and say that it pretty much compresses down to the size of a Nalgene bottle (same shape too) just by packing it into its own pocket. If you had a small compression sack, you could get it smaller, but I really hate to force things with products like that. Base layers? Press away bc I can find decent ones for $10. The $80 for this one is great, but you still don't want to be buying a new one every year because of abuse. Also, despite what the size chart says, pretty much just order the size you usually order. I'm about 58" around the shoulders, so I wanted to err on the side of caution and went with the 2XL (US) size. I would have been fine with just an XL, which is my usual. When you're thick, though, you always worry a bit.

I only wish there were more compartments to organize my gear like I did on my Osprey. How's that for a coincidence! We here in Nova Scotia just got our first Decathlon store, (fully opened just after Christmas), and I was in today to have a look at their backpacks, in particular, the smaller 30L - 40L packs of the Forclaz line. The quality looked and felt great and they had some excellent design and features for the price. Not being overly familiar with these particular packs however, I decided to hold off on buying one until I did some more research. So you can imagine my surprise seeing your notification for this video! Excellent timing. And although the pack you feature here is larger, I can see many of the similar features in the smaller ones I looked at today. Your review and positive experience with this pack was exactly what I was looking for and has been a huge help. Many thanks for this. I have visited Decathlon before in a different part of the country and was really impressed in their line of hunting clothing called 'Solognac'. I picked up a great pair of pants; nice styling, comfortable, plenty of storage, wear like steel and a very decent price. HIGHLY recommended. It might make for a good comparison review video with a Fjallraven equivalent *hint, hint*😉. Like them, the Solognac line has many different types of pants with different materials, weights, colours, features and prices so a comparison with similar Fjallraven pants should be fairly easy. Just a suggestion. Thanks again Luke! Hope you and yours are keeping safe and healthy. All the best from 🇨🇦. - Darby

Don't sleep on the Tetons or even some Kelty Red Wings, depending on the size you want. Tetons have been good bags and generally cost quite a bit less than this. This one also seems to only come in a 50L and 70L for men. That 60L apparently is a women's bag only. I'm not saying the bag is bad. There are just a few other options. I'd definitely feel good recommending this to any friends looking for cheaper camping gear. It looks amazing, it has some great materials and the price is right on point. Decathlon must be operating at a razor thin profit margin on those packs. Without holding it in my hands and trying it for myself I don't want to go too much into pros and cons, but there was one thing that stuck out to me. It is pretty cool that it includes a rain fly, and it looks like it has its own dedicated pocket for it. My con would be the location of that pocket and having to open the lid to access it, risking some rain inside the pack. I know, it doesn't take long to extract the rain fly, and it would be such a small opening anyways for any precipitation to fall inside, and yes of course you can usually spot rain coming and it isn't hard to get a weather forecast these days. I had to dig down far to pick this nit but I bought a new bag for my computer last year which also has a dedicated rain fly and pocket built in. This one is external to anything else on the bag, down at the bottom. Something to hope for on the Decathlon Forclaz Trek 200 I guess.

Decathlon is really quite big here in Italy. I used to buy all my shoes from them in high school. I'm now 27 and I still have a pair of Quechua light trekking shoes that I had in my last two years of high school (10 years ago). I used them every single day for years, and I still use them whenever I'm doing work that involves getting dirty (mixing cement, hiking around my mountain house as long as I don't have to wade through high water, etc) and they're still in good shape. They also sold a 20€ 2-person tent (!) which is still beloved by many. The new version is a bit improved and comes at 28€ (Quechua MH100).

My daughter got me a Teton Oasis day pack for Christmas. The moment I put it on, I was like.... YES! It just fits me perfectly. It’s high on my back and comfortable. I’ve done a lot of hiking and I’m excited to hit the trail with this pack. I had been trying on day packs for months and, I was ready to buy, but nothing fit like this one.

Excellent recommendation. I'm gonna check that out, we got several Decathlon huge stores here in the Philippines. Forclaz brand, i think it's a French company, I've seen some of their products and really very affordable and high quality. Awesome review! Update: Just saw it in their website and the price is only US$80.00 (4,000 pesos) the same as reviewed by Luke. Gonna get it!

Personally can't do a pack with a zipper down the middle like that. Had a similar pack like that in the 90s and the zipper broke, had to tie the two sides together with bank line to get through the weekend. I did get a Teton Scout on your rec and I love the pack. Scored it on ebay for...$20 bucks with the shipping. Theres something about the spartan nature of it that I love. Keeps me from over packing but still has more than enough room to cram everything I need. Fits me well too because like you, I'm short. Anyway, great work. You're my favorite youtube channel.

In India, when I started hiking, there was only one trusted brand that I can rely on and that was decathlon and till date, almost all of the gear I own are from decathlon. The great thing about them other than being comparative low price is the products are thoroughly tested and iterated over the period of the time. Thanks, I appreciate your honest reviews.

I went to the store today to buy the 70L because your video hit every sweet spot and you got me really convinced for this backpack. However the 70L was sold out so I took the opportunity to have a good look at the 50L version and decided that that was actually enough capacity for me. Especially due to the fact my sleeping bag fits the bottom compartment of the 50L just as well. Your review was excellent, thanks for this gem. Note: most convincing points for this bag was the comfort due to easy-fit system and the zipper going through the middle of the pack which I think is super practical. (Btw, it is called the Forclaz "MT100" now.)

I have the 50 litre version of this backpack. I tested it in a four days hike in the Grand Atlas mountains in Morocco and it serves me well. The quality is just excellent and as for the straps I didn't have any issue with that. I was able to put all my snow hiking gear including my tent and sleeping bag except food in it and it performs just great. One of the things I didn't like about it is that you could hardly attached any big size gear to it. The straps on the right and left of the pack were a bit not long enough to carry my foam foldable sleeping mat, maybe decathlon should think about making an update by extending those straps and adding more once at the bottom or the top of the pack. Decathlon s products are great value for the money in general. I remember once I purchased a tent and it didn't performed well and I returned it and they immediately changed it by a new one. This is how I understand it. Decathlon maybe prefers to sell millions backpacks with a lower benefits margin than other brands on the same scale like McKinley, regatta, or other brands who would sell only thousands of articles with a higher benefits.

Decathlon makes surprisingly high quality and very well thought out equipment at such a great price. They're still new to the US market, I think there's only one retailer in the country. If the Trek 500, 50+10L is as good as this 70L is I know what I'll be replacing my GG Crown 2 with.

Just got this pack. Agree with all the points made and would rate the carrying comfort at 8 as well. 2 different hikes so far. 1 at 22lbs and one at 36 lbs. If you are going ultralight, use a different bag. If you want to carry 20lbs to 35lbs comfortably this bag can do that. It is also great to lend out as it can fit just about anyone. The price is excellent for the product.

Greetings from Ireland! Great review. I have the 50L version of the MT100 in my Decathlon basket after exhaustive research for a great budget rucksack. It costs €70. @@kaikaih5771 It is very well made, feels very comfortable and adjustable. It is stealthy and robust. The volume can be let out or tightened with straps. There's attachments top and bottom for bedroll, tent or whatever. I definitely feel that it's great value for money. Depending on your gear whether it suits your purposes. I wanted something small enough for dayhikes and big enough to carry everything, bar the tent, for overnighters. It'll do that. (my tent being a heavyweight Coleman Phad x 2 man, 3.5 kg)

I heard about this pack and the apparel offered by Decathlon by surfing throughout You Tube. Apparently the company is well renown throughout Europe, Malaysia, South America and several other countries around the world. I bought a jacket from a FB source and discovered it is a Decathlon product. I paid 50 bucks for it and I can't compliment it enough for its performance and packability. The retail price was $139 I believe as the price was displayed with a line through it. Your review certainly confirms the fact the QA system at Decathlon is doing its job. Nice looking backpack and at 70 liters would be great for winter backpacking. Thanks for the review, Luke.

Hey sir! I'm from the Philippines and Decathlon is one of my go to shop for outdoor gears. The facility offers a one stop shop for almost all sports. And the price, you really can't go wrong with the price! Actually got some bags from them that have different volumes for different purposes. I got a 30 and 40 liter dayhike packs. A 70 and a 90 liter packs that can double as not only hike bags but also for those multi-day out of town. And yes, I'm a bit of a heavy packer for a dayhike. Can't go wrong carrying some first aid and a couple of other stuff. And yes the other go to shop of mine is a local brand: Sandugo/Basekamp. Been having and using them for years and have not been disappointed with any of the products I have considering the price point. 😊

I've purchased several items from Decathlon and have been mostly very pleased. $50 squash racquets that performed as well as my $200 Harrows, $40 clothing that matches its $100+ peers. The items I had to return (didn't fit right AT ALL) were easily returned with no fuss -- including a pair of shorts I'd held onto for nearly a YEAR (unused, I'm just a terrible returner). Order from Decathlon with confidence. Their prices will astonish you, and the quality should as well. Oh -- be prepared for an astonishingly slow website.

Put me down in the "Yep, I love me some Decathlon" group: and I swear that some days my ENTIRE outfit, from undies to hat, is from Decathlon :-) It's great to see their gear featured on TOGR, thanks, Luke (I understand they've finally crossed the pond and are opening up stateside?). I first went into one of their big box sports stores in France about 20 years ago and my mind was blown - they have everything for every sport you can think of. And 1700 stores in 57 countries explains why their prices are always so competitive, they have the buying power behind them. I also like how they generally have 3 different levels of gear, with 3 different levels of specs/price, for 'beginner', 'intermediate' and 'advance', so you can choose just how much into a sport/activity you are. And as they're French they're big on cycling gear, which is just great for me; I would say they're the most popular bike clothing company in the world, definitely in Europe, wherever I go I always see people on bikes dressed head-to-toe in B-Twin gear (their cycling brand).
