@lizanna6390 so your telling me he never asked questions about his mom? Like cmon make it make sense. Who kills their parent over a significant other anyway?
@lizanna63907 ай бұрын
@briamari9035 Oedipus's parents were warned by the oracle of Delphi what would happen so they nailed his feet together, put him in a glass jar and dumped him on a mountainside, as you do. A shepherd found the poor mite before he died and took him to the King and Queen of Corinth, Polybus and Merope who couldn't have a child. They raised him and loved him as their own. At some point, a drunken relative revealed the truth that Oedipus was not theirs though they denied it to him. So Oedipus travels to the oracle to ask if they are his real parents. As in almost every story, the oracle didn't answer his question but told him he would kill his dad and marry his mother. Horrified and terrified of hurting Polybus and Merope, Oedipus fled to Thebes and on the way got into a diagreement with a rude old man who poked him with a very sharp stick, Oedipus flew into a rage and killed him. Also not a great reason to kill someone but he didn't know he was his dad. He reached Thebes to find it being terrorised by a sphinx. Oedipus solves the riddle, saves the city and becomes King after wedded the widowed Queen. Four children later the truth comes out. The Queen kills herself, Oedipus pokes out his own eyes and eventually dies the more tragedy befalls the children. Its all his grandads fault if you get really deep into it. Or Apollo, it's debatable

The biggest example of the Hero Complex, or the Hero Syndrome, is Syndrome from The Incredibles. He is the literal definition of it, his plan is to create the Omnidroid so he can unleash it on the city, cause mass chaos that no one (but the Incredibles who he attempted to assassinate) could stop, and then he’d come in and save the day by turning it off himself, making himself look like a great hero. Then once he’d be tired of being a famous superhero and he’s had his fun, he’d sell his inventions so that “everyone can be super,” making superheroes unremarkable (“when everyone’s super, no one will be”).

Usually found in those who’ve grown up antisocial, who’ve been raised in abusive or unstable households, or have grown into an unhappy adulthood and wish to rewind to “happier times”. Can reinforce feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety toward one’s life, and jealousy and bitterness to other people who are perceived to have it good or better than they have. Probably the most ironic examples of the hero and god complexes are in firefighters and surgeons. Firefighters are statistically more likely than many other professionals to become arsonists (generally with the intent of being the firefighter to respond to the fires they've set). The irony is that firefighters are generally already perceived as heroes. Surgeons and god complexes pretty much go hand in glove, and the irony is the attempt to express the same power they have in an operating room in the outside world.

I struggled with a Messiah / Superiority complex during highschool. In elementary and Jr High, I was a strange creature of a boy but it always bothered me that I wasn't "louder" or "more outgoing" and felt like it was limiting me, but could never figure out how to shake it off and just do stuff without being such an introvert. At some point during Covid, my mentality changed practically overnight and I was suddenly what some could say "In love with myself". When we returned to school, I had become a textbook extrovert, and as I describe it now was essentially a cartoon / tv-personality version of myself compared to before. I remember it all and was definitely present during it, but it only lasted for about 6-8 months before I crashed HARD. Psychedelics stripped this belief system from me pretty rapidly, and after my first out of body experience, this character I was playing had dissipated. I will say, those 6-8 months were incredibly fun and rewarding. I did things I never thought I'd ever be able to pull off, and my confidence was the highest it had ever been. With this way of thinking comes bad though, and I ended up burning a lot of bridges and cornering myself often during the 6-8 months. I think it's safe to say that I'm grateful for the experience, but I'm happy that it's over and that I no longer think like that.

I used to think I had a brand-new mental complex/syndrome which functioned oppositely to Main Character Syndrome, which I befittingly nicknamed Background Character Syndrome. It turned out I was actually dealing with an Inferiority Complex.

Because they are more often than not related. I usually see more people who compensate their inferiority complex with a superiority one rather than being expressive of that perceived inferiority

Could be bipolar personality disorder. Manic episodes often give people a superiority complex while depressive episodes can give them an inferiority. But I’m just an armchair psychologist so don’t take my words seriously, it’s always best to see an actual psychologist if you think something is wrong.

i have a persecution complex and guilt complex. more guilt than the persecution, that only comes out in states of mania, but a guilt complex is extremely hard to live with, it’s become a sort of thing with my mom when i see her sometimes i have to ask her if she is pissed at me constantly or i will lose a whole night of sleep over one moment of the day (currently 3:08 am rn as i type this) that just ended up being a blip in the other persons life. this all honestly surfaced after i had a pretty bad psych experience where i confronted my anger issues and manipulative past and i was honestly nearly a sociopath, so i honestly can’t say i would prefer to not have it, if that was the only other option, because while i feel extremely guilty i’ve become also more honest. it just sucks, but i’d rather feel it than make my friends go through it again.

Messiah Complex is the strongest one that resonates with me. To my dismay. And I've known about it for awhile, It's very difficult to find purpose without it. Considering I've spent most of my life alone and sealed away from the world, hardwiring my brain to condone and build itself off that unhealthy ideals.

So now I finally know what to call my fear of success and sharing my ideas.. I'd love to rant about all of why but I’m too afraid to explain since part of why I have this is being bullied for saying my ideas if I’m being completely honest. Possibly why I even have Jonah Complex… Just, minus the strained relations thing. Oh, AND guilt but far less intense. I am trying to do better than having these issues, but I just get pushed away, hence what I said earlier with the whole Jonah thing.. If there’s anything to take away from this, try your best I guess, however I might be a bit too afraid to do that right now now i feel guilty for writing this since it might sound like i want sympathy, but, i dont need it, dont worry.

Can be self-destructive though, with very bad consequences for the person affected (can easily overload), as well as promoting lazyness and exploitation in others.

As said in the video, it means seeing other people as lacking the ability to perform tasks/make the right decisions. Believing you need to do the task/do good on their behalf, because you don't think they're capable, doesn't make you a good person. It just makes you a person who thinks less of others. If sometimes that complex results in you doing good, then great. But at its core it's about mental and moral superiority over others.

If anyone's wondering, the Jonah complex is named such because in the Bible Jonah is punished for resisting God's commands to rescue a people who have mistreated him, hence the fear of doing one's duty.

I might have a Peter Pan complex not because I’m a narcissist or anything but because I’m autistic, I don’t want to have a lot of responsibility because I am afraid I will mess it all up and I don’t trust myself to remember and even know what I’m supposed to do because of my brain. I can barely remember to feed myself so I don’t think responsibilities and commitments would be a good idea for me. However I do have a job and I’m trying my best. I’m not irresponsible but I can be at times because I won’t know it’s wrong. I like leaving important decisions to other people because I don’t trust myself to make those kind of decisions. Also I have a hard time knowing what would be the best thing to do in the specific scenario. Also as a kid when I would make decisions I would always make everyone mad because I wouldn’t follow social cues, which again is why I don’t trust myself to make important decisions. Anyways Peter Pan complex kinda just sounds like autism to me, specially the frustration part, sounds like overstimulation.
