Arieb Azhar as a multi talented artist who has made significant contributions to the music and cultural scene of Pakistan.
As a musician he was a pioneer in interpreting and performing Punjabi Sufi on the guitar for urban audiences. As a festival organizer, Arieb co-founded the highly successful 'Music Mela Festival of Islamabad' and curated its first three editions and later established his own festival platform 'Art Langar'. From 2018 to 2020 he served as Executive Director of T2F Karachi during which time he also curated the 3rd edition of the Creative Karachi Festival.
Arieb also conceived and produced the award-winning feature documentary 'Indus Blues', directed by Jawad Sharif which shed light on the rich musical heritage of Pakistan. His latest achievement has been the highly successful production of the theatre play 'The River's Daughter', directed by Kulsoom Aftab of which Arieb was the playwright and producer while also playing the villainous role of Pir Tota Sain.
Having grown up in the 80-s left movement of Karachi, and later spending 13 years in Croatia where he first hand witnessed the dissolution of Yugoslavia, Arieb's artistic expression is imbued with a sociopolitical sensibility and a love of folk culture.
The Pakistan Experience is an independently produced podcast looking to tell stories about Pakistan through conversations.

Exercise in critical thinking - 41:00. About Amir Khusrau canonizing Hindustani music. That all of the swara akshara are in sanskrit and the nes of Ragas too in Sanskrit. What's more plausible?. 1. That Amir Khusrau was secular enough to name them in sanskrit. OR 2. They already existed and Amir Khusrau continued in an existing tradition that preceded the Mughals /Islam. It's an easy choice without blinkers on. It is soft peddling of the narrative that culture was somehow introduced after the advent of Islam in the Indian subcontinent. It's just folk lore history that promotes Islmaicist supremacy buttressed by leftist historians and brown colonials.

For those folks who don't get it yet. Ask yourself, why a poet who reveled in persian composition would suddenly choose to borrow sanskrit words..

Thanks for saying this. I'm a khadi boli speaker. And even many centuries before Amir khushro tulsidas wrote in poetic khadi boli. Kabir composed Dohas. Meera Bai sang many songs. Amir khushro is a latter addition but Marxist and Islamist tries to make him some kind of pioneer which he was not.

As a regular listener of your podcasts, I am always amazed by the wisdom and insights you bring to the table, despite your relatively young age. Recently, while watching your podcast with Danyal Sheikh, I was deeply moved by your candid discussion about your personal journey, particularly when you shared your experience of emotional breakdown and burnout. It takes great courage to open up about such struggles, and I want you to know that your vulnerability is not only appreciated but also serves as a source of inspiration for countless individuals, myself included. In your conversation, you touched upon the prevailing hardships faced by the people of Pakistan, especially the rising inflation and the challenges of survival. Your work has the power to touch lives and instill a sense of purpose within those who listen attentively. You have become a catalyst for change, and your influence reaches far and wide. While the journey you have embarked upon may be demanding, I implore you to stay steadfast and resilient. Your efforts are not in vain, and your voice has the potential to bring about the transformation our society so desperately needs. Your authenticity and passion have already sparked a shift in mindset among many, and we are here to support you every step of the way. On behalf of the numerous individuals who appreciate your work, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you, Shahzad. 46:00 Hindustan/ much of North India and Pakistan was ruled by Sultans and Mughals for several centuries, can you really say these kings & empires except few were as tolerant as the Hindu kings towards different schools of Arts? For example destruction of idols, sculptures and paintings was a very common thing during invasions, and after the invasion was done it wasn't much promoted like it would have been under a Hindu or Buddhist empire. I disagree with biased hindutva history and their portrayal of Muslims kings , but can't you give little credit to a religion and culture which has always allowed several ideologies, arts and school of thoughts to nurture? It's not same same , three is a reason why 80% hindu country became a secular democracy in 1947.

30:35 is a very touchy and sensitive topic that resonates in India as well. Fortunately many of us have held on to our diversity of languages, culture, food, culture etc - despite a counter current of an imposition of one language-one identity. People who migrate from one part of the country to another, in search of opportunities, do not want to learn the local language. On the other hand if they migrate to Germany or France they are perfectly ok to learn French or German. This needs to go away. Once you migrate to another part of the country or world - seeking a livelihood : you necessarily need to learn the local language - be it Sindhi, Pashto, Odiya, Bengali, French, Marathi or Getman

There is a huge correlation between Hindu Sanatani culture and the effects of psychedelics...it pushes people towards yoga, meditation, vegetarianism, nature, love, compassion, non-violence, consciousness...in a way towards Sanatan or Hinduism. Psychedelics were banned by Nixon cuz America was going so much towards eastern Sanatani culture and refusing to go on Veitnam war...psychedelic revolution is coming again with so many authentic research shows tremendous benefits...

Music, Culture etc. what is left in Pakistan are the remnants of Sanatan Civilisation. In countries which are converted long back, you will not get these things.

Thanks for the wonderful conversation. From the podcast I gather that both of your are in agreement that culture and ideas in general are an emergent phenomenon, arising from group interactions. Assuming that I rephased the idea of your conversation correctly, does that not mean that ideanity being a cultural product also arises from the group. So where does it leave space the self to exist.

Yar can u also do a video on "Karachi Affair". It is the Agosta Submarine scandal that has also recently resulted in arrest of then French President and same is allegedly related to 1st suicide bombing in Karachi and most importantly, a naval chief was indicted by NAB and then had to undergo a plea bargain. Since its election year and the issue is hot in France as well bcz the dead french engineer families are still seeking justice, can u like do a video on what the hell is this scandal and who is responsible bcz Benazir, her Investment Minister and Defense Minister had went together to sign this deal but no one talks about them, Maleeha Lodhi's brother, its just a very embarassing and complicated scandal probably spearheaded by the Defense Minister. The navy intelligence who caught this kickback scandal and Mansur ul Haq the chief who made plea bargains all pointed fingers at the Defense Minister who isnt being questioned and literally most of the money is still untracked despite the Chiefs plea bargain with which 2 years of naval salaries were paid. Its on wikipedia called Karachi Affair, very embarassing scandal named after our city. Commented on ur prev video of Karachi Police case but I think this is recent so u may read my comment, sorry for irrelevance as regard this video topic.

Or India ka oldest name is not hindustan which is from indus river. Balki aryavart and bharat varsh are the oldest name of India which is well documented history..

as muslim, let me tell u something. in India, has existed the santan dharma (dharma not= religion), literally means, eternal laws. here ppl only cared about the true nature of existence and did not care for belief systems hence produced a scientific outlook free from existing biases hence you see natyashastra for example which is totally scientific. on the other hand islam is belief system, which has killing of kaafirs and apostate as part of duties hence produced aurangzeb and khilji. by romanticizing islam stop justifying the murdering cult that it is.

That composite and syncretic order of public life is indeed Indian and not south Asian. Temples of Multan are in dire condition and pak archeology dept is scared to restore them due to fear of islamist reaction. Attempt at revisionism is appreciated but only do it to acceptable extent and don't stretch it too much.

Islam means "submission to will of God", NOT "submission to will of Maulvis". Islam is a beautiful religion that understands the human condition and seeks tolerance and compassion from it's believers. Surah Al-Baqrah, Ayat 62: "The [Muslim] believers, the Jews, the Christians, and the Sabians- all those who believe in God and the Last Day and do good- will have their rewards with their Lord. No fear for them, nor will they grieve." (2:62) The rest of the Quran dealt with waging war against Kuffar because there was no option left for the Muslims. Charter of Madinah literally considered Jews as part of the Ummah before they became hostile towards the Muslims, and made Madinah difficult to live in. Not a single Pakistani Mualvi points this out, even though it's known by scohlars in other Muslim Coumtries. Mazrat kae saath, bajae nafrat pehlanae kae, aur bagair sochae samjhae doosron ki baat ko pehlanae kae, Quran aur SAHIH Hadith parh lo aur khud cheezain samjho. Peace ✌

Well, in those areas like in Thar where Hindus live, you find respect of places of worship. There is also active community support. This is also for certain Sikh Gurdwaras, like Nankana Shahab, Kartarpur, Panja Shahab..etc But yes, there are also temples that are completely deserted and not kept well as a complete migration of the Hindu population took place. Just like muslim mass migration happened in East Punjab etc.. As to Dargah culture, well, it is sort of a composite culture. So it's not actually comparable with a masjid or mandir
