Wow Gray I can see a surfer ridding his board with his both hands up, inside the bowl with the large sap wood at the top. What a bloody Butey and to see those ribbons just flying out that bowl gotta love that.👍👍👍.Ernie smith from brisbane Australia

Thank you very much Ernie...funny you should mention a surfer. I was just listening to the song Pipeline on KZbin. That was the very first song I wanted to learn back in 1963. My friend and I took guitar lessons and the music teacher said we needed to learn Yankee Doddle first. I still love surf music and will probably grab a guitar and play Pipeline after I finish typing LOL Thanks for watching, Gary

Wow! Love that grain so much! My PawPaw had a black walnut that was blown down by a hurricane but still alive. We had such fun playing in that tree and its exposed roots, completely unaware what greater miracle lay within.

Living in the US midwest my neighbors have black walnut trees. You cuss them when you roll an ankle on those walnuts that fall. But thank them for the branches that fall. Great turning for the contrasting colors and chatoyance. Even turning small trees and mushrooms from the smaller limbs. I have yet to make wood stain from the walnut husks I have to pick up before we mow… great job, that bowl turned beautifully

Five thumbs up from this end of the inner web, Gary. 👍👍👍👍👍 The chatoyance is great. I can only dream of getting wood that nice down in East Texas. All we have growing here is oak, sweet gum, bodark, some mimosa, cherry, crepe myrtle, birch, some maple, cedar. There maybe some walnut around, but I have not found it yet.
@ThePapa1947
@ThePapa1947 Жыл бұрын
Thank you John. It is amazing how much different trees we have growing all around the country. Sure saw a lot on our trip across the states back in 2016. I think Mimosa is one of the most beautiful woods I have seen. I was looking to get some left overs a few years ago. It was on Craigslist and I saw it real late. Someone had taken it all except the stuff that looked bad. As it turned out I got some great looking turnings from them. Thanks for watching, Gary

While watching this video, I was trying to decide which type of wood I like best. I am still trying to decide. Haha. Black walnut is just amazing. I have one black walnut tree in my yard. The yellow wood from my agarita made great headlights on a little car I made for the granddaughters. You know how it goes. Wood is just awesome. I made a walking stick for my sister out of crepe myrtle. I was absolutely shocked at the beauty. As for your bowl, it is beautiful. Your friends will love it. Great job as usual. OH Man! Gary. That grain is absolutely fabulous! That almost white wood contrast with that rich brown grain is just incredible! That turning was a joy to watch. Glad to know I'm not the only one that puts woodworking on hold to go cook - I just slow roasted two brined turkey breasts after brining. One was peppered and the other was Cajun. Hope your smoked shoulder came out great.

Thank you very much Qapla. For sure it is very pretty wood. The pork shoulder came out great. I brined it in apple cider and other spices for almost 24 hours. Then made a nice dry rub for it. I smoke turkeys' as well. I usually spactchcock it. And have put it in brine for 48 hours before. That turns out great. I like cooking but not as much as wood turning LOL. Thank you very much Bruce and congratulations. The 22nd will always be a great day for you. I heard a joke many years ago using 22 as the theme. Very corny but the owner of the shop I worked at heard it when he was much younger. He would say 22 anytime it fit. Like a dimension on the drawing might be 22 and it became a big deal. Our grown kids say it now as they heard the joke from me so many times. Brings back some good memories. By the way it is a joke that can be told to all ages LOL Thanks for watching, Gary

Wow, your friends are going to love THAT, Gary! Such beautiful grain, color and chatoyance! As always a great finish! I enjoyed your tool work in this one, too. You did a great job of capturing all the action! Yes, if I remember right, it was snowing here on the 22nd and the 23rd. Not nearly as much as you got, though. I bet that pork shoulder was the best! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it! 😋 Great job, buddy, beautiful piece, entertaining video. Heard a few guitar chords in there, too! Keep'em coming, my friend! 😃 Phil

Thanks so much Phil Nature was sure good to me on this piece. Almost hard to ruin a piece of wood like this. Oh we got a lot more snow that expected. Plus lots of ice on the street and lots of cars in the ditch on the road I have to travel to get anywhere. Oh it was one of the best pork shoulders I have done. Brined all night and then a home made rub...YUM Yes I decided to play a couple cords at the end just for fun. Maybe the CCR next LOL Take care my friend, Gary

I am sure that I am the only one that was thinking of holstiens as I watched the contrast of heart and sap wood developing 😅. …Sorry. Thank you for another enjoyable video. Since I don’t control the kitchen at my place there’s no telling how long it will take to satisfy this sudden desire for pork roast…😂 thank you very much.🤨

Thanks so much Barry. I am surprised my wife did not think the same thing. She grew up on a farm and they had a few cows. We try to share the cooking here and there are a couple things only I make. Such as smoked pork and turkey. Well everything else on the BBQ as well. But I make a soup about 5 times a year that is my specialty as well. To me cooking is like building something. Thanks for watching, Gary

Boy you sure can't beat walnut for beauty and this one is the best! Those two finishes with Aks paste sure do a good job! I have been using them for awhile now and they always do a great job! The only bad part is Acks will not ship to Canada anymore, something to with shipping rates and border problems, anyway, well done and thanks! Cheers Al

Thank You Gary.... Very nice piece of Black Walnut and with zero cracks... You offered an easy wake up for me this morning. Usually Gary your complicated turnings I find difficult to get my morning brain around but this one I can comfortably handle. Wonderful wood, wonderful bowl & watching/thinking that you must really enjoy the process of creating a simple beautiful bowl. I assume a very relaxing process for you? I am also thinking that while you are comfortably turning you are probably formulating something extravagant in the back of your mind, ha? A very special saved piece of beautiful Walnut wood as a gift for your special friend. Until next time ..... TM

Thank you very much TM. Yes it was very relaxing and yes I have been making my brain work overtime on another strange glue-up. But coffee cures all so after a few cups I was able to get going on it. All glued up but will not finish it for a few weeks. Other things in the process and I do not want to rush this one. Take care my friend, Gary
