When the large bottle of laundry detergent is empty, fill it with water and let it sit for a bit, then shake it up and use it in the next load, and add more water to the bottle until it's fairly soap free. then Don't throw the bottle away, use it as an outdoor hand washing station with water in it! Or if your traveling you have hand washing water.

Pasture-raised is the best. Chickens get to roam free and eat a natural chicken diet. They're not confined to a large building with thousands of other chickens, not seeing the light of day, and only eating processed chicken feed.
@peachBloom9 ай бұрын
I buy either free range or pasture raised eggs. They are both about the same. Both are from hens raised outdoors with a natural diet. Organic eggs assure that the hens were not fed corn, as virtually all corn in the US is GMO. Organic of course has to be non-GMO.

Re eggs. Free range and pasture raised are about the same, and are more nutritious. The hens are raised outdoors with more space. Cage free hens are still inside, but not in cages in the huge buildings. Cage free hens are not "free" or outside! Free range and pasture raised eggs will have a darker orange yolk due to a better diet of grasses and bugs from outdoors. Organic eggs are from hens not fed corn, as all corn in the US is gmo, which precludes the Organic classification.

The color of the egg depends on the breed of the chicken, and doesn't have anything to do with how they're raised. Pasture raised is better than "cage free." Eggs can be listed as cage free and still produced in inhumane conditions.
@lizg55749 ай бұрын
The colour of an eggs shell does not impact the flavour of the egg. The conditions under which the hens live and what foods they have access to are what make a difference: hens who eat a lot of natural green leaves will lay a golden orange yolk. Egg shell colour is determined by two things; the breed of the hen and the colour of its ear lobes. Blue ear lobes = white shell, brown ear lobes = brown shell. There may be a few exceptions to the rule as you can get blue, green and even black shells, but most common domestic hens (and particularly those favoured in mass production) are the types that don't go broody and who can be 'programmed' to lay according to light exposure. This can artificially prompt the release of an egg follicle every 8 hours, rather than every 12, causing a hen to lay 3 eggs in 2 days, rather than a normal rate of 2 in the same period. This shortens the length of the hens useful life and is actually quite cruel, putting them under pressure in a restricted environment. It's a shame you can't keep a couple hens where you live!
