Ah excellent, really looking forward to seeing you guys pop this together. MX-5 is a good choice in terms of getting extra power in the future with so many easy turbo kits for them too.

Thanks bro, yeah looks to be a good one like you say lots of documented tuning and fettling which is of course what we love 😂

When you were considering which kit to build did you drive the various manufacturers' demonstrators?
@TheParrottBros Жыл бұрын
Thats a very good question, we did not drive all manufactures no, although between myself and rob we have been out in all models over the last couple years ( plus rob used to own a westfield) i would recommend doing a test drive for sure if you are narrowing it down as some are a tighter space than others, Great point thanks for bringing it up

Looking forward to watching the progress on this build👍 I think I would have to go new , Duratec 2.5 totally understand budget and saving money just my opinion
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
Yeah if money wasn’t an issue then yeah 100% all new and the power gains are decent, good torque too. Should be a fun journey that’s for sure
@RogueTS13 жыл бұрын
We say smart choice going with the MK. We are purchasing an MK Indy R Ford model. All new parts; planning on placing a Ford 2.3 Liter Eco-Boost crate motor and a Ford 6 speed manual crate gearbox. MK makes everything you could need/want for your build. We look forward to watching how your build comes together.
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, yeah that’s a solid choice and nice to have everything new and accounted for. Should be an exciting journey 😊

Great video guys i liked the MK option the best
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
thanks buddy and we think so, given our circumstances it seems the best all rounder for the budget and for the most diy 😂

What kit car's have motorbike engines in
@TheParrottBros2 жыл бұрын
You can spec quite a few kits with bike engines, mk, gbs and westfield all do kits suited to bike engines if you have a look online. we opted for the car engine as we intend to do quite a few road miles and it works out better

Do I remember the Westfield SEight was around 300bhp per tonne?
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
quite possibly, would have bags of torque and that v8 sound track with no roof would be amazing
@julesmatthews21783 жыл бұрын
I’d be more concerned about a roof speshly with that wind Dom 🤣🤣

Would love to do one of these with an SR20 engine, think my normal RBs would bee too heavy 🤣
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
There was a fella who did that near me years ago, guy called Dan who owned DB Power. Drove it probably 800 miles and blew up 3 gearboxes spinning it everywhere 😂

My westfield was £10k to build in 2002 and that excluded engine, gearbox, front uprights, and brake callipers. I have spent £10k since on upgrades (350bhp engine, gearbox and ap racing brakes). If westfield were still around then I reckon mine would be £35k to build to the same spec. Not a cheap hobby but you can do upgrades over time once on the road. If you want a very fast car for not too much money then build it yourself.

Say guys, I'm in California and VERY PROUD OWNER of a 2001 audi roadster convertible. I have a new issue with gear shift not going into 5th gear. 3 years ago, I had and issue with 1st gear. I'm not going to ask if you can fix, cause I know you can. But how can I fix it or what should i be expecting as far as repair cost? Or parts that need replacing? Thanks in advance
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
Do the basic checks and make sure that your selector cables ends are not broken and get them reset. If your gearbox is at fault then potentially get the box swapped out and if not had a recent clutch do that as well
@simonsmith3883 жыл бұрын
I'm having an MK built at the moment. MX-5 is doner car but with Honda K20 engine. There are enough parts from MX-5 to get it an age related plate. The K20 will give it about 220BHP. And you can pick up a K20 for £1k5-2k that way you can get a high millage MOT failed MX-5 for less. Balances in the end.
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
Thats brilliant, i can see how that would work out well. when are you hoping to get it ?
@simonsmith3883 жыл бұрын
@@TheParrottBros The hope is that it will be IVA'ed by end of the month. If you are coming up to MK again message me through their FB Owners page as I live close to MK.

If it was me, I’d bite the bullet and go Duratec and not look back. Awesome engine!

They are a solid mate but then again the Mazda engine known for being a good one too. Time will tell 😂

I am shocked at the price! I mean amazing to build your own car
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
It is truly mad that you can build your own sports car at home in your garage using all new components, specially as the power per tonne is more than most road going cars. Just need time.... thats something we all strive for
@pigeonguardgames5073 жыл бұрын
I don't think you've considered the 300 hours of Ducky throwing on this build? 🤣 Nice choice guys, did like the rear spoiler of the westfield....But MK probably best choice for this build.
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the rear end of the Westfield was wicked but Mk offers the best for what we wanted to do at the moment. Sure we will make a cool car by the end of it
@simplyexisting1125 Жыл бұрын
I know you two are probably in the UK but people here in the states should keep in mind there's a lot of v6 mustang's kicking around and built correct they would be comparable to a 289 cobra, please do not destroy any rangers to build one they are useful little pickups.
@TheParrottBros Жыл бұрын
Would be epic with a supercharged v6 lump in that’s for sure
@simplyexisting1125 Жыл бұрын
You have to admit a cammed v6 built right sounds pretty exotic, but they don't sound like a v8 but they do sound good.

Nice, I built my mk indy r a few years ago with a haybusa engine. It's mental, raced my friend in his M3 and genuinely thought he was t even accelerating and being a dick only to find out he fully went for it but got left behind.
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
I bet that's insane!! plus the sound of those is like a theatre production haha power to weight there isn't many things that could put up much of a fight in dry conditions that's for sure. excited to get ours built and out on the road
@ciprypop3 жыл бұрын
I would prefer the cheaper option and I think the mx5 brakes will be sufficient as they will have to stop a much lighter car
@TheParrottBros3 жыл бұрын
Thats what we thought the majority would prefer as it caters to the masses, if you want to build the more expensive all new ones then we have shown what's available, looking forward to getting started now 😆, i agree brakes stock will be fine but we do want to do some track work and with 4 pots we will get a better pedal feel and will take more abuse hehe
