I was diagnosed with AML in my bones last October . I opted for hospice right out of the gate at 65. They gave me less than 3 months and I’m still here in July. My reasons were 2 fold, being a chronic pain patient I was terrified my pain wouldn’t be treated and I’m single no kids and the type of mutation I have can only be done with a transplant and that means steroids and that was a no go for me. I’ve way out lived what the doctors told me. Each day is a blessing.

I presented with abnormal appendicitis in the ER. After 3 days and an abnormal CT, they did laparoscopic surgery. I was told upon awakening that shockingly they had discovered my appendix was cancerous. It was fully encapsulated, black and flat and the doctor and pathologist were shocked. I never had chemo or anything because all the margins showed clear. I was checked at 6 months and at a year and then every year since. I am eternally grateful. Had I not insisted that they keep looking because something was wrong, it would quickly have gone in to my colon. My prayers are with you and yours.

You are so fortunate that it was still fully encapsulated and had not exploded spreading it across all your abdominal cavity and organs. That is usually what happens with this type of cancer. There is a gentleman I follow from Australia. He was diagnosed about a year and a half ago with Appendiceal cancer. Unfortunately, it had exploded and spread throughout his abdomen and even the bottom of his diaphragm. He has had very strong chemo and then a very drastic surgery in which a great many of his organs and intestines were removed. He then immediately had a special chemo where they inject hot liquid chemo directly into the abdominal cavity and then move your body around and over to swish that chemo all throughout inside. He has I think 2 doses of that. During his recovery from surgery, he experienced a lot of complications and nearly died. But, he recovered and then about 8 months after that he has just again had another surgery to remove more cancer (much less than last time). He is now in hospital recovering from that. He is a great person though. You should look him up because he has a lot of information and understands this cancer very well. He is Paul in Perth.

This is heartbreaking. You have been through so much. I have had radiation as an infant due to tumors in my trachea, had a thyroid echo my due to pre cancer in my thyroid that would have become cancer if I didn't have my thyroid removed. I went through 2 surgeries and treatment for breast cancer 3 years ago. I didn't go through what you went through, but I am always waiting for something to happen. My family has a cancer gene for colon cancer. I have my colonoscopy set for August. I just put everything in God's hands. I am adding you to my prayer list. You are a strong, brave and amazing woman. Turning I'm sick into "I'm healing," and reminding yourself that" stage 4 is not a death sentence," sounds like good words to live by .. As someone who doesn't like to travel long distances and take a lot of time off of work it would be very tempting to stick to the nearest facilities but you raise a good point that those aren't always going to be the best options for specialized conditions.

Your cancer sounds like it is PMP appendeceal cancer (adecarcinoma) w/signet, goblet cells. I am also an appendeceal cancer survivor, but for neuroendocrine cancer of the appendix. I also have been NED for 7 years as well. Very recently I have started experiencing upper right quadrant pain (near gallbladder) with pain in the lower back. I know better to advocate for myself. I appreciate your honesty in this video!

@diannehortonpong1388 interesting, I also had a NET tumor in my appendix, 2 years later i started getting the same pain as you and have been for the past 4 years. Dr's keep saying I'm "fine" but the pain is unbearable sometimes. Did you ever find any answers?

What an inspiration this beautiful woman is, I had surgery for stg2 colon cancer 18 months ago, the lymph node histology done post op showed no spread of cancerous cells, so my outlook is quite good, admittedly you’re never truly in the clear with these things but it’s the best of a bad job!. How this lady must have felt when she was told of the cancers return I can only imagine, but look at what an intelligent and radiant woman she remains, a true fighter, fantastic, thank you for sharing your story 🙂.

This is so encouraging … I have a recent intestinal duodenal cancer diagnosis and I’m in my 80’s but everything you said is relatable. You have given me a rational way to view this. My summer of chemo has been a challenge but nothing like you have been through. You are so pretty, so bright, and such a loving wife and mother. I can relate to your journey .. 12 yrs ago I had double mastectomy. So that gun to my head as you put it is always tucked away in my thoughts and I try to balance it with affirmations, as I go through another cancer trip. I have a great family …. The same exact thing just happened to me...had a rare cancer tumor in my appendix same exact label as you had. Goblet Cell Adenocarcinoma...been going to the hospital for lots of testing and a colonoscopy, they are removing a section of my colon in 2 weeks ....it's ranked at stage 2a, they said it's very aggressive....wish I was the only one dealing with this situation, but glad I'm not alone....I was already warned that this most likely will repetitive... At this time they are trying to get ahead of the game and remove a section to give me more time before the next time comes along....I felt so lost about this cancer, from the bottom to the top of my heart thank you so very much for posting this video....I'm sending lots of big hugs....We Got This❤

I agree with you that if you have a rare cancer you absolutely must go to a cancer specialty hospital if you can. I work at one, they have more things available to you such asmore clinical trials and they also perform a greater number of surgical oncology procedures as compared to a surgical oncologist at a regular hospital

I just loss my mom in 2023 stage 4 we had no idea she was that sick she complained for years when we found out they told us it was to late 🥹59 years old she passed 3 months later. After i had my 2nd child, my appendix presented like yours. They almost didn't take it out because "i didn't look sick enough", but my ultrasound showed i was sick. I told them to please take it out so it was over and done with. After the surgery, the same as you, they found a small tumor. Thankfully, it was small enough that they could take it all out. Interesting to hear of others who have had this. My surgeon and my family Dr, nurses, etc said i was the first person they'd ever met with this. Thanks for sharing.

I also had it I had leaky appendix for many yrs until it ruptured my body went into gangrene sepsis so bk into hospital again I developed a urical also and had to have pus filled abcesses punctured and drained I had lost 5stone over 1 yr pre the appendix event my gp was delighted I kept a photographic diary on my phone for I suffered from ascites several times in hospital my teenage daughter did everything for me and she could smell the gangrenous rot from my body and she begged me to go to hospital with tears in her eyes for I usually took pain meds an then sleep anyhow I was debulked also during the hemicolectomy after the appendectomy I got home I hand on heart felt I'd been sick and asleep for teens of yrs after that necrotic flesh was out I was back in my mid 30s I just couldn't express to anyone how brand new I felt but a cpl days later my temperature was high so despite the surgeons washing the pus out of my abdomen for hours and because I was left with ruptured appendix from early evening until surgery the following late morning the sepsis was right through me I had it for 3 weeks and list another approx 2 stone I lost hair from malnutrition and couldn't bear the smell of food so it was drips in and liquid passed out the sepsis was horrible I was informed I had cancer in my appendix and needed part of my bladder removed also my omentum and lymph glands too which were clear but it almost killed me I was given a 5yr survival prognosis I'm just finishing my 3rd yr I had goblet cell carcinoid adenocarcinoma iv only recently learned of HIPEC and PIPEC its for those who aren't suitable for HIPEC as far as I could find out HIPEC is available in the south of Ireland but not in the north if I don't qualify for HIPEC I would have to try PIPEC abroad and I think it's available in Australia USA and CANADA perhaps someone could let me know btw the adhesions cause terrible pain on a daily basis ppl don't realise how bad living with the aftermath is but I would emphasise LIVING we're still alive sister it's a pity there is no group chat forum for sufferers of this rare disease as support is sorely lacking by way of patient communication GOD BLESS YOU SWEETHEART I PRAY THAT WE CAN STAY HERE JUST LOVING LIFE PAINFUL AS IT IS ITS WORTH EVERY SECOND ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I am so sorry for everything you’ve been through. I lost my sister in 6 months from diagnosis and my mother in 1 year from diagnosis. Both were told there is nothing that can be done. My sister pancreatic and liver and my mother full stomach cancer. I am so glad you are here for yourself and your family. I hope you continue to get well. (Get rid of most of your full size mirrors.). Eat healthy. If you can pronounce it don’t put it in your body. Chemicals are all over our food and eat 10 nuts a day. Even just peanuts.

Thank you for saying stage 4 isn’t a death sentence! I needed to hear that today. I am the same age as you, 4 kids. My oldest is a senior and youngest is 9. I was diagnosed last November with adenocarcinoma of the appendix with signet ring features. I have had several laparoscopys by a surgical oncologist well versed in appendix cancer and I am not a candidate for HIPEC. I am hoping to get into the PIPEC trial in LA. I have a consult at the end of the month. Your story gave me some renewed hope. Thank you!

My husband's going on 6 yrs with abdominal pains, severe gas and othet nasty symptoms. They've done 2 colonscopies and endoscopy and they havent found anything!!! Theyve done blood work and varies of tests and they still can't find anything. He feels glass in his stomach 😢

I have been a nurse at a cancer hospital for 15 years and I want to share with you that I'm hoping you do not feel bad/blame yourself/your team for you're recurrence and spread related to not removing your ovary. When they took every visible sign of cancer out there are micromastia that may float around that are not detectable. You can see this in some gynecological and colorectal, as well as a few other types of cancers. It is highly likely that removing that ovary would not have made a difference. It would have immediately put you into complete menopause which would've had a lot of quality of life issues for you. Just an opinion here I am not a doctor but I have seen so much during my time at the bedside.

why did the surgeon not do an incidental appendectomy when you had your colon treated? It is common practice to remove the appendix when the belly is open so you don't end up with appendicitis later and have to open again.

Did anyone here who had/has cancer have any body stressors anytime before your diagnosis, like mental stress or grief, over working, over exercising, or an unhealthy diet? I've been doing lots of research and found that most people who had cancer had some type of stressor beforehand. Some body stressors may not feel like stress. For example, running marathons makes people feel good, but it's actually stressing the body. Anything that over stresses the body causes systemic inflammation and cell malfunction and lowers the immune system so it cant repair damage thats happening.

As someone else said, she has one of the two BRCA gene mutations that predispose people to getting breast, ovarian, pancreas, fallopian, prostate, skin (melanoma), and peritoneal cancers. She had a hysterectomy and prophylactic double mastectomy to prevent getting cancers in those areas.
