Facts lol big FACTS. He doesn’t have it in his blood to not at least try. He was that kid where his parents would say “don’t touch that, it’s hot and will burn you”. He’d 100% touch it the second they turned their backs.

Returned punts my senior year in HS, no other feeling compares to when that ball is in the air and all eyes are on you. Never broke one, but never fumbled one either. Great topic!

Freshman year in HS my coach at practice had me as punt returner. I was a receiver , I was the skinniest guy on the team. I got under one, and got my bell rung before the ball was even in reach.

Former 5A High school punt returner/kick returner. Loved the job. Secret to having any success is to pick which way you are going to go before you get the ball because that .1 second you look can be the end. Always aim for ways you can go straight, and lastly, if you're about to get hit, use those shoulders. I was a skrawny, but quick guy, that was shocked when some folks bounced off me simply because my speed was able to beat their 'tackle.'

The hardest hit I ever delivered came off of a block on a kick return. Went totally out for a second, came too and I was on my feet cheering with my teammates about the block.I can only imagine what some of those hits that the gunner delivers feels like. I was 13, these are fully grown mega athletes.

Pat's dad kinda sounds like mine. At a very young age I remember asking if I could be a fan of anyone but the New York Giants. He said he would give me a cardboard box and I could sleep at the end of the driveway. We had a very long driveway. The Giants could suck for another 2 decades. To this day I'll never stop watching and praying lol.

When you said your dad with throw soccer balls at you for flopping. I tried flopping in jr high basketball and my mom got so pissed, she was yelling at me about me falling down every time anyone bumped me and she pushed me when she said bumped, I fell right into the corner of our coffee table. Smacked my head off it and split my head open. Needless to say I’ve never let her forget it.

May be a silly question... Why not take a receiving team lineman who would rush and get nowhere near the punter anyway, and put him 5-10 yards in front of the punt receiver, to protect him, so the receiver doesn’t have to worry about some guy barreling down on him?
