We’ve seen this before in sports, and every time it happens it ruins the game. I personally think kickers (especially punters) are extremely exciting to watch, and always loved trying to punt/kick as a kid.

Get rid of them and make the regular players do it. The worst thing about us sports is specialisation of positions. I want to see Dalton kicking field goals, Wilson punting balls and Aaron Donald trying to block punts. Plus special teams will eventually disappear anyway when people finally realise punting is statistically pointless.

I think an issue is high school coaches don’t know how to teach a kid from scratch how to kick. All the teams in my district went for 2. The only reason we had a kicker is Bc he played soccer growing up lolol

We were lucky with our punters. Had 2 of them get all district honors and I think one even got all state too. One was averaging around 40 yards a punt and the other averaged in the mid to high 30s. We had a kicker that had the leg for 45 yard field goals but he didn’t have accuracy to save his life. We lost a game against one of the best 4A teams that year 7-10 because he missed 3 field goals.

At my school we didn’t have a JV kicker, he had one varsity kicker and on JV we had to go for 2 and we had a somewhat decent lineman kick off since he had a boot. We didn’t have a kicker but didn’t eliminate the position

I have seen it in lower ranked schools a lot. Like the smaller public schools and private schools...basically the teams that don't play in competitive divisions. Also kickoff/punt has been dropped in a lot of places because obviously that's where the most injuries happen...but you're right in the sense that it's not a huge issue, cause this is not happening in the bigger more competitive schools.

I’ve only heard of that in Peewee football. What I have seen is giving two points for kicking after a touchdown and only one point for what’s traditionally a two-point conversion, but this is only in Peewee football. Peewee is the only place I’ve seen in be a question and this is in Oregon.

My brother has a kid on his califronian high school team who has nailed a 55 yard field goal hes on the varsity team. This kid is insane. He played soccer for like the Egypt pro soccer team as a kid. I have never seen a kid who can kick like this. Every kick off back of the endzone easy. Also I have never heard of this rule atleast here in the super populated regions.

We also have other rules that are going to potentially ruin football in our state. Recently my district and the league within it (not sure if the whole state has adopted these policies but it’s growing) only allows for TWO contact practices a week- and can only allow for 30 minutes of contact in each contact practice. That means only one hour of contact every week excluding games. This rule is stupid and not well thought out. It DOES NOT MAKE US SAFER. In fact- players use this one hour to further develop bad tackling habits (leading with the head and intentional head to head collisions) because it’s either their only time to unleash repressed anger during this one hour, or we simply don’t have the time to truly work on better tackling form because we can only teach you how to tackle against a live opponent for 30 minutes twice a week. It’s one of the reasons I have started focusing playing Rugby instead.

This is rediculous. Keep kickers in football. I understand injuries on kickoffs being wanted to be avoided but it's integral to the game and having a good kicker is a weapon. Field goals not only add excitement but are most of the scoring. You shouldn't have to have a td or bust. And punting is also an art and having a coffin corner punter can make your team a contender. Kicking and punting is so important and adds to the excitement and strategy of the game.

In middle to high school we havent seen it from a rules standpoint ruling out kicking. It is however normal for lots of schools to never kick extra points & only go for 2 everytime as a norm. It isn't crazy that out of a middle to smaller schools roster of potentially only 14-40 kids, that no one can kick a simple PAT lol.

I believe the casual football fans dont understand the importance of special teams. Now, if you understood the sport, you'd know every inch counts. Punting the ball and pinning them deep in their own territory is beautiful to watch. Kickers hitting a ball straight between the post is a skill under so much pressure.
