Fun Fact - ND has the 6th most wins in cfb over the past decade. They also shut down Caleb Williams and Marvin Harrison Jr last year, with an even better defense this year. They may not be as good as UGA / BAMA / OSU, but they’re legit right behind them

Another fun fact: Notre Dame over the past 20 years averages ~#15 in strength of schedule in the nation. Just because they have remained independent doesn’t mean they don’t schedule difficult games (including USC every year, and multiple dates with Georgia, Michigan, Texas, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, PSU, A&M, FSU, Miami, Louisville, Washington, and Stanford (who used to be good lol).

that's why PSU joined the Big10 back in the 90's. They seen the writing on the wall, if you wanted a chance at getting a Natty. You needed to be in a strong conference. Should have been a split championship in '94. ND was given every chance multiple times to join BiG10, they've refused time and time again...so they get what they get. Now at least there's an actual ' playoff ' so they'll have a chance to get there.

ND does pay their players NIL money. But, the fact is, Marcus Freeman has his coaching staff. Mike Denbrock was an excellent hire and so was Loren Landow as the strength and conditioning coach. Plus Marcus Freeman recruits differently than any other program which is why he is getting the talent. "Hey, you can go anywhere and play football. You might get into the NFL. Then you might get injured and end your career. A degree from Notre Dame will get you further in life after football than any other big time college football program you go play for." That really resonates with the parents of these kids and the kids that he is recruiting as well.

Obviously they do what they can to help their players get paid through other means (and they are good enough at it that ND athletes make very good money relative to other D1 schools). They have come out strongly against the school directly paying the players which puts them well behind the top tier SEC and B10 schools. Brady Quinn started a booster club last year to try to keep them somewhat competitive with other schools from a money standpoint
