1st, thanks much for all these Trio Plus videos-all are helpful. I’ve used it since it came out, with 2nd Digitech pedal) lately more in a multitrack recording workflows. I have the same love/hate relationship most have for it. Digitech seems to have taken it to its end, and abandoned it for SDRUM. It’s versatile enough to demand a real screen and a real (tabletop) user interface. (You have to memorize too many non intuitive button click/hold actions). The worst part is lack of easy channel separation for Bass & drums, and real song management; it’s often too easy to accidentally delete a song. But I still use it occasionally, and like it’s mixer routing option, and am hoping they upgrade it sometime.

Scott this was a great tutorial. I am a beginner to audio recording. I am new to Trio + and don’t have a mixer and pedal chains, I’ve been using both amp out and connecting the mixer out to an Alto Tx208 PA for speaker cabinet. Using an XLR with TRS audio cable from mixer out. Hoping you could provide clarity as to the line level. Is this set up considered an unbalanced connection from the mixer out to PA? Is this considered the same as a guitar instrument connection? Or is this considered balanced coming out of the Trio. Appreciate some guidance and Appreciate all you do. Thanks

Hey Pedal Guy!...Not bad once again but I’d like to ask why you set up your Guitar Fx straight in the unit when a “Send & Return” input/output are supplied and recommended for use of pedalboards??? Even the manual suggests so...as to have better control of the unit’s tracking ability for “the band” function and Looper mix of FX when making the loops!...🤔✨🎶🎸🎛 Absolutely love playing/working with mine!!..& really enjoy the challenge of producing cover tunes & original tunes on it!..🎸🎶🎛👏🏾☺️👍🏾

The purpose of this video is to show you how to use an amp in your trio plus setup. I absolutely agree that if you intend to use this pedal in a full blown pedalboard you must use the fx send/return for the best possible results. Hope that helps.

My next suggestion of tutorial on this cool-ass ✨🎶🎛pedal is to demonstrate more clearly the benefits of better “Loop Production”...by showing just how to “balance/mix/blend recorded loops on the Trio+ via volume level adjustments when “layering” / Overdubbing voices or instruments. Doing this really increases the fun/satisfaction factor of the functionality of the unit/pedal. Done right,..advanced planning of recording process & practice will pay off with nice & cool sounding MicroSDs loaded with killer impressive tunes!!...✨🎶🎸🎛👍🏾 The Digitech Trio+ is remarkably fantastic pedal for ANY Musician and capable of covering ANY genres so I highly recommend it for anyone’s arsenal of musical gear! G'day, this demo just answered my question and it looks like I can use my pedal/effects board plugged into the Control on the Trio Plus and the guitar is plugged into the Effects board (BOSS ME 80) and then the AMP is plugged into the AMP left hand side of the Trio Plus. I don't have a mixer so it would be the AMP on Clean. It does'nt really matter what guitar you use initially until you have played and practiced with the Trio.. Like your demo is the mixer a PA unit?

Hey a quick and maybe dumb question. The "amp" and "line" outs are really a great and clever trick. One thing that has always bothered me about loopers is the fact one often plays overtop of the recorded tracks through the same amp. I often will record to a BOSS Looper and then play the tune back through a separate amp. Just sounds better. My question is, what would happen if I ran the "line out" to a separate guitar amp rather than a mixer board? This way I could have the guitar part going to one amp and then the drums and bass to a different amp and then I could play through my own amp! I just got a TRIO+ yesterday...
@ThePedalGuy4 жыл бұрын
Xhefri Guitars that would probably work but I would suggest using an A/B box in front of the TRIO so you can route your lead playing off to the other amp. Make sense?
@xhefriguitars79464 жыл бұрын
@@ThePedalGuy Yes it does make sense. I was just wondering about impedance, but I do not think that is a concern coming out of the line side. I can EQ it with the amp...kind a. LOL! But to your concept of an A/B Box switch is a great idea! What I have been doing is recording into a looper which is on it's own amp and then unplugging from the looper and going from my stomp boxes and into a different amp. That is what I was planning on doing with the TRIO. Bit of a pain but works. All of this is laziness on my part. I have a nice recording studio and can lay down tracks there and play back to them there, but I like doing stuff on the fly in my amp room (out in a shop) when I just want to practice. I really do not want to go and boot up the whole recording system if I just want to goof around for 30-45 minutes. :-)
@ThePedalGuy4 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. The impedance is not going to be affected here as it’s a standard routing really.

It would be nice if you could use both plugs but still route the looper to go to the mixer, so one could loop some clean guitar or whatnot there, but then send some solos directly to an amp that has nice built-in overdrive. Better yet, if each overdub could be routed separately. Just have to bypass the Trio+ with the lead guitar, I guess, or stick with pedals for OD and FX. I set this up in a very unique way that sounds great. l use the top output on my Trio+ to go out to a pair of 10 foot separated studio monitors, I made a simple Y cable from guitar cable. The mixer out going directly into an amp. It works. The monitors do a FAR better job at showcasing the drums and especially the cymbals are crystal clear. The bass while not super deep is very nice and tight. A guitar amp was never meant to be hi-fi like that. Sounds a bit muddy IMHO and I am running high quality tubes, etc. My monitors have tweeters and are FRFR. First I lay down my single note or simple 7th chords using downstrokes (Band button.) Then I stop it and arm the LOOP button. When I play a note, it kicks right in. Then while it is playing back, I can solo over it using my pedal board which goes out to two more amps so I have 5 powered speakers in total. I sit in a triangle configuration- the surround sound is crazy great. Here is the kicker. I also play a Godin xTSA that has 3 outputs (Acoustic, Electric and Synth.) That means, I have two guitar cables plugged in at the same time so I can play everything together while bypassing the pedalboard signal to the Trio+. I had tried the recommended Effects Loop set up but it was buzzing and was not impressive. Others have said the same. Trio+ likes things simple and clean. So from my Godin, use the super clean, piezo pup to feed it a clean signal for learning. When I solo, I raise the volume on the electric pup, lower the piezo (same guitar.)

Do just run the amp output to amp? Will it distort when you turn on a distortion peddle?? I need the bass and drums to be clean then I want to add distortion for solos.. Example My ditto looper works great at the end of my single chain. All my effects are before the looper. That way I get a clean single and when I click a distortion peddle it does not distort the first loop I looped.. Does the Trio do this or do you have to have a mixing board for it to work properly?? My amp has an effects loop. To prevent the Trio’s rhythm loop part from getting distorted when using gain on the amp, can I plug the Trio + in the effects loop of the amp instead of the amplifier’s input, bypassing the amp’s preamp stage and straight into the power section? i,e. Amplifier Send > Trio guitar in > Trio amp out > amplifier’s effects return. I will then send the Trio’s mixer out to a mixer for the drums and bass. Will that work?
@ThePedalGuy4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. I don't see why that wouldn't work.
@AudioMocha4 жыл бұрын
That may have spotty results if you're distorting with the amp. I've been playing around with mine the past few days using heavier distortion and the learning mode doesn't work. Now, I can't confirm this would work on all amps but the following chain may work. This is what I use with my Firehawk FX acting as my amplifier. Trio guitar in > Trio FX send > Any pre-amp pedals like OD > Amp/FX Processor guitar in > Amp/FX Processor FX send > Any other FX pedals you'd typically place in an FX loop > Trio FX return > Trio Amp out > Amp FX return. The advantage that I've found from this chain is that if you have nothing to plug the Trio Mixer Out to, the drums and bass will come out cleanly through your amp and your loops will retain the amplifier/FX processor tone you recorded with if you wanted to change your amp's channel, that should still work.

I am going straight through an amp without a mixer. For guitar bass and drums for now. Still can't activate the looper.

Could you run the mix out to a amp fx loop?

Hey man thanks for this nice video explanation. I'm asking myself how I should plug in the digetech trio+ while using my Line 6 Helix LT (running via duo XLR (left and right) into my mixer)? Now the signalchain is: Guitar -> Line 6 Helix LT -> Mixer -> Mixer Output (Adam TV5 Monitors). Adding the Trio+ would it be right like this: Guitar -> Trio+ (Guitar In) -> Amp Out to Line 6 Helix LT (Guitar in) AND Mixer Out (from Trio+) -> Mixer (In) ? Or do I have to use the send/return stuff?
@ThePedalGuy3 жыл бұрын
I'd have to give that some thought as I haven't used a Helix.

Pedal Guy thanks for the video, however when I go to press the looper button it does not activate to record. I am following your instructions step by step. I managed to record the base and drums. Then I play them and go to press the looper button and it does not activate to record. Why is this? Very frustrating.

Is the Tempo set at 12 o’clock?

@@ThePedalGuy Does the tempo need to be set at 12pm for the looper to activate?
@1969rio4 жыл бұрын
The reason I changed the tempo was because at 12pm the tempo for my song was much to fast. Do we need to record all parts at 12pm and afterwards change the tempo?

I believe so. I will double check in the morning.

I had a similar issue and thought I had a problem with the Trio or set up but I found that if the volume on your guitar is set too low for some reason it didn't loop.

I don't really get it where to put which cable in. So I have a Mixer and I want to control the Drums and the Bass with the Mixer. I want to usw my Guitar with Gain, Treble etc using my Amp. But nothings works for me. I don't know where to put which cable in. Maybe you can help me out. Thanks. Greetings from Germany
@ThePedalGuy4 жыл бұрын
Ok, it's really simple. Plug your guitar into the Guitar input on the Trio. Use the Amp output to go to your amp and the mixer output to go to your mixer. When you have both outputs in use, the bass and drums will only go to the mixer output.

Watching this I have no idea how you are hooked up to the effects side ? You tried to be very comprehensive at first then you skipped to having everything hooked up and "teaching" it a song. I am just trying to get a simple hookup video , I understand sending the mixer out will keep the bass and drums separate but I am using the a multi-effects unit with my amp so I want a simple plug in video on that. Thanks though...

Could anyone please tell me if I can use my trio + with the 4 cable method, using a boss multi effects pedal to a Marshall and mixer. Thanks in advance.
@ThePedalGuy4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. You should be able to use the FX loop of the TRIO with your Boss and then use the outputs of the TRIO to go out to your Marshall and mixer. Hope that helps.

Love my Trio Plus but hate the fact that we can only have 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures! I mean how hard is it to include some alterative time sigs into it? Maybe they could do a new firmware and include alt time sigs? Dont think it will happen.

@@ThePedalGuy When was this one released? Like ages ago :D Nothing is happening. What we need is another brand to up the game as this is the only pedal on the market doing this sort of stuff. Then maybe Digitech will look into updating this. Until then its just a Money Train for them and for me its a constant 3/4 and 4/4 time sig :D

If I dont have a mixer is there anyway to avoid the bass and drums being distorted when I have distortion on my amp?
@ThePedalGuy4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the question. As long as you're using the clean channel on your amp, the bass and drums shouldn't distort. If you're using the amp's distortion, it won't work. Hope that helps.
@ltran254 жыл бұрын
I have no experience with mixers, so if I want to play say a metal tune with alot of overdrive, I then have to get a mixer to send the drum and bass signal to. Then what does the mixer connect to? Can I still hear the clean bass and drums while I'm playing guitar on overdrive?
@AudioMocha4 жыл бұрын
I just posted this on another question here but yes, if your amp has an effects loop, you could use this chain configuration, it's what I've been using. Trio guitar in > Trio FX send > Any pre-amp pedals like OD > Amp/FX Processor guitar in > Amp/FX Processor FX send > Any other FX pedals you'd typically place in an FX loop > Trio FX return > Trio Amp out > Amp FX return.
