The actors who play the Ferengi characters are always talented and watchable. The problem is that the actual scripts usually are season filler. I don't think I've re-watched any of these episodes and the main reason I watched them the first and only time was that (like TNG) DS9 was available first in Ireland on VHS (2 episodes per tape), while there was a 2 year forced delay in screening the show on TV. Enjoy your vacation. I don't have any issues with solo reviews and I appreciate that it is more difficult to record without a co-commentator. The lack of direct feedback from another person must feel unnatural and make speaking into a microphone a bit surreal.

I don't think episodes like this one suffer too much from the lack of a co-commentator. There's not a lot to say other than it's not very good. But the better episodes benefit from discussion, I think. And it's interesting to have the opinion of someone who's seeing it for the first time.

As I said, I have no issues with solo reviews, but I take your point that all ST series have episodes that have little to tease out in a discussion and can be covered fairly quickly.

I like the Ferengi farces (even Profit and Lace) probably because they remind me of Jeeves and Wooster. Grand Nagus Zek and Quark's mother are like Bertie's evil aunts. Their whims often start the plot.

I would down the line stretch Quark to Quark, Rom, and Nog, all three become great characters and if the episode is about them (Little Green Men, In the Cards, It's Only a Paper Moon), it can be a great episode. But bring in other Ferengi, especially Zeke and Moogie, and it becomes unbearable.

Yeah, I think there's a difference between Quark or Nog episodes and "Ferengi episodes". I like the Quark and the Klingons episodes, for example, even though they're "Ferengi out of water" stories. They work for me in a way that this episode doesn't.

1monki Yeah, those work, even if I am not the biggest fan of episodes about either species, because Quark stops the Klingons from getting too serious and the Klingons prevent things from getting too farcical, and it becomes more a comedy of manners.

DS9 is one of my favorite series of all time - yet to this day i have never watched a single ferengi episode. i dunno man, the darker and more military this show gets it's increasingly bizarre that there are cartoon goblins running around. you can really feel the future-bsg creators (moore, weddle, thompson, taylor, angeli, etc) chafing against whomever else was on the staff simultaneously embracing the most ridiculous elements of star trek

I hear good things about Profit and Lace.

The worst thing about Discovery ending is that they're no more Penksy file podcasts for me to listen to . :-( I like the movie ones but just can't do any more Star Trek series. EXCEPT maybe you should REWATCH Discovery, and do a podcast of each episode rewatch! Yes! You might enjoy it! Just you watching Discovery forever, and ever, and ever....
