Slight correction. Most telepaths in the Marvel universe maintain telepathic shields to protect them from the thoughts and feelings of others. If they don't, they can go mad because over time, they lose track of which thoughts and feelings are their own. This is extra bad because an insane telepath can cause a lot of suffering for a lot of people. So Xavier maintains those shields unless he has a specific reason to lower them.

Moves like Dark Knight trilogy, Sam Raimi Spiderman, and even Xmen, all had something in common in that they were legit movies. They had actual characters instead of caricatures. They had real stories to tell with depth and grounded themes. They were movies about super heroes, not superhero movies, which is what the mindless modern MCU movies are.

@Dayspring "art imitates life". Human storytelling is one giant allegory. If someone isn't relaying a historical event (or news report), you're looking at or reading an allegory one way or another. At the very least, the consumer turns it into one. And as far as j.r.r. Tolkien is concerned, the One Ring was the New Testament concept of sin, I don't care what he try to say afterward.
@One.Zero.One101
@One.Zero.One101 Жыл бұрын
@Dayspring People misinterpret Tolkien's allegory statement all the time. Tolkien hates obvious allegory like Aslan being Jesus in Narnia. You LITERALLY cannot write a story without allegory. Our stories are based on our experiences. Our characters are based on people we know. Even Tolkien's writings had allegory whether intentional or unintentional

Unlike the Avengers, the X-Men were always symbolic of marginalized people. This is the beginning, and it was a great beginning. There are several substories and layers. For the time it was good. Wolverine was never much of a team player. There were parts you might not get without some of the background, but it does stand up by itself. For example, Magneto controls magnetic fields... so put a steel plate in your shoe he can lift you or fly.

Thing is, Marvel superheroes have always been shades of grey, with a lot of them being conflicted antiheroes (like Tony Stark/Iron Man, or Magneto, or Deadpool). For the longest time, DC was the universe of larger-than-life superheroes (like Superman or the Flash) in bright primary colour spandex costumes. Only with the modern "Man of Steel/Justice League" Snyderverse movies did DC suddenly turn all their heroes into brooding characters in nearly black costumes.

Charles wouldn't have sacrificed that one man just to kill magneto. Because as soon as magneto died that bullet would have went right through the man's head. Plus Charles can't control magneto directly because of that helmet he's wearing. Also magneto doesn't just control metal, his power is magnetism which can f*** with a lot of stuff including making himself levitate. But of course in these movies they don't really show the full extent of his powers, they mostly just do him metal bending

I am kind of surprised you didn't recognize Sir Ian McKellen as Eric Lensher/Magneto...he was also Gandalf in 'Lord of the Rings'. Of the bad guys, the Brotherhood of Mutants, my favorite is Mystique (aka Blue Girl). In the initial films, she is played by Rebecca Romijn, a former supermodel turned actress. She is now on 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' as Number One aka Commander Una Chin-Riley of the U.S.S. Enterprise. With 'X-Men: First Class', which takes place before these films...Mystique aka Raven Darkholme is played by Jennifer Lawrence...but Romijn made appearances as an older Raven. Before playing Wolverine, Hugh Jackman was in London in a major production of Rodger and Hammerstein's 'Oklahoma!', which can be found on video. He played the lead, Curly, and sang "Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'" among other songs. He has been Wolverine in 9 films total (one as a cameo, and one as archival footage included). He had, initially, hung up the claws with 'Logan' in 2017...but recently announced he will play Wolverine again in 'Deadpool 3'. Originally, Ryan Reynolds appeared in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' as Wade Wilson...and that was his first Deadpool (but they did the character really odd at the end.). You haven't seen the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy yet...the actor playing Toad is Ray Park, who appears in 'Episode I - The Phantom Menace' as Darth Maul, who is awesome!!! The part of the fight with Storm, where he kicks the metal bar out of the elevator doors and twirls it...that is a very Darth Maul move! The streak of white in Rogue's hair is from the comics. She has always had it, and in the cartoon from the 90s, she had a huge amount of red hair and a streak of white. The actress playing Rogue is Anna Paquin, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for 'The Piano' when she was 11 years old (the second youngest Oscar winner in history and it was her film debut). She is also really well known for her role as Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series 'True Blood'. Onscreen, Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor Charles Xavier) and Sir Ian McKellan (Eric Lensher/Magneto) are enemies...OFFSCREEN, the two men have become the most amazing BFFs. They are both Shakespearean actors and legends in that field but they never worked together until this film. Their friendship is so close that when Stewart married his current wife, McKellen officiated.

This movie is pretty much what spawned off a LOT of superhero movies which followed and ultimately led to creation of MCU. This was definitely a seminal movie in the pantheon of the superhero genre in movies. Rogue has that hairstyle because when she absorbed Magneto's powers it was THAT intense it caused her to have a stroke and that's what gave her the blonde hair in front. (It happens in real life, look it up). In the comics she always had that hair style, so this was a neat way of the movies giving her a reason why she has her hair like that. In my own mind, at least, it still rates as a really great superhero movie. Definitely see X-Men 2 next.... X-Men 3 didn't do so well at the box office and wasn't very well recieved, but if you're loving the franchise, you should still see it.

X-Men has always been deep. The original comics in the 60’s were about civil rights.

Before the mcu this movie made people realize that despite the outlandish powers, adult stories could be told, via these characters. Something us comic book nerds already knew...

There’s no way Michael Jackson was ever considered for Xavier.

@@mikhar Yes he was! Lol! He even said in recent interviews that he was considered, but then opted for the role of Nightcrawler.

@@shainewhite2781 Hmm, summary search reveals that MJ auditioned for Xavier because he wanted to, no one pretends he had any chance of getting it. When did he play Nightcrawler? Also, ‘’recently’’ is kinda weird considering he died in 2009.

I hope when you have time that you do them all or can fit them in. This is the first installment which lays the foundation. The following X2 and First Class and the Dark Phoenix are my favorites. The interesting thing about this or any movie is that when the movies are released, they are at the height of their popularity. When these movies are reacted to many years later, unfortunately you only get a glimpse of the impact they had. Xmen is my favorite of all the series, but I enjoy Marvel as well. Thanks for reacting to this movie!

In the beginning where you see that character fighting with wolverine. His name is sabertooth. Hammond wolverine used to be friends that were as close as brothers. The one that said humans evolve into us that is magneto. He's the one that bent the fence in the beginning.
