The entire rooms don’t need to be used as a hotel. Say half could be home for elderly, one for day care nursery. Perfect generation and cultural balance. The staffs will be the residents at the care home. Elder people needs to be wanted. That’s how you stay young.

My first thought was a bell that you are going to pick up tomorrow…THEN…I hoped it was a new pump for the convent well which might be higher up the priority list. Whatever it is - I will be watching. I am 78 now and I am “energized” when I watch you all. (As much as an antique like me can be) Thank, thank thank you for doing the extra effort which makes your blog so interesting.

The room conversions to suites sounds like a great idea. Maybe get Michael to paint small wooden plaques for each door with a different saint, local flower or local plant. Or, possibly a local carver could do the same thing. Personally, I believe a business retreat would better fit than wedding venue, much less trouble and angst. Also, a business retreat would provide more than a 1-night stay. At any rate I'm sure you and Gwendolyn will take everything into consideration and do what's best for you. Best of luck, with all the hard work everyone is doing whatever is decided is bound to be a success.

I would be careful with an intense theme of saints. I myself have always been Catholic, but as the years go by we discover facts about Catholic convents and the Church that we wish had not happened. I'm not saying that this order of sisters was responsible for anything horrible, but I think it's important to remember that survivors and/or their friends and family might not want to see a lot of saints. The local flora is better, or perhaps some kind of artwork that suggests peace, making peace with the past. Maybe something that honors their work with the hospital and hospice? Although that was a separate building?

The painting on the frame @ 8:28 is a backdrop for a Christmas Nativity Scene. Probably for the chapel from its size and where the top pleats are - forming a roof. Appears it is painted with oil paints as well which would explain how it is still in fair condition. At 8:57 - Nappes - grandes et petites - Damassées=> Tablecloths, large and small + Damask type linen tablecloths. @ 12:58, the "kneelers" are not such items. Could these perhaps be a bottom step of the spiral staircase to the 2nd floor of the chapel? Or of another staircase? The steps to the altar are already there....

I think office's would be great too! Start ups or small businesses could rent office space. It's nice to separate work from home and having business meeting at such a location would be awesome. You could rent out the big spaces like the chapel for all sorts of uses like yoga class for a few hours. These kind of shared office buildings are so common in the Netherlands and very popular. You also wouldn't need to do much work once it's up and running. Scheduling of shared spaces and vacuuming and maybe few toilets, really not much work.

Thank you Billy and Ryan for another great video. Those idea's for the rooms are great. I wonder if you have thought about moving the hallway to one side of the other, courtyard side or garden side along the windows. It would be a lot of work but then you could make wider rooms or you could frame up whatever design works well. Also, the way that main road curves at the convent, I bet everyone driving by at night has noticed the new lights in the chapel. I bet it looks great through the stained glass window. If that was my home town I would be happy and proud to see new life at the convent. Please when you or Ryan get a chance, show us how it looks now from the outside with the new lights.

Great team work everybody!! I really like the idea of creating rooms with ensuites, though managing the guests, and keeping up with the cleaning after each guest leaves is a lot of work. I think it could be less work in the long term if you set them up as additional 2 bedroom apartments, with the kitchen, dining, living room, and half bathroom on the main level, then putting in stairs to the next floor above for 2 bedrooms with bathrooms, and a washer/dryer unit. Having the washer and dryer on the same floor as all the clothes and bedding makes life so much easier. Whatever you think is best for you and Gwendolyn to manage is what you should do, Billy. Your family is the most important thing. So excited for tomorrow's road trip. Have a wonderful evening! 😘💕💗💗💗

If the place had never had intruders, that'd be one thing, but you knew people had broken in and vandalized some spots; looks like someone used that part of the attic as their own little crack house. I think renting the rooms out as studio or 1 bedroom or more apartments by putting multiple rooms together. That would give you great income every month. Having a hotel involves much more with a lot of staff and expectations by guests. The convent has so much potential. Here are a few things I would do, not that I am suggesting what you should do with your property. First of all, every time I see the chapel I think of Christmas performances. In Portland Oregon there is a Catholic owned chapel and garden called "The Grotto" that is famous for the lights festival during the Christmas Season with a small chapel that hosts a different group of performers each night. Since your chapel is not sanctified, any religion or denomination could be welcomed to preform. Also wouldn't the courtyard be gorgeous lit up for Christmas? WAAAY tooo late to consider for this year of course, but that is what comes to mind. It would also be lovely for any other types of performances... music, plays, mimes (hehe). I love the idea of a mutli-use center with both business and living facilities for rent. Another thing we have in the US (in some areas) are Pop up Restaurants and self catering kitchens. I could see putting in a commercial kitchen and dining/small banquet area for rental. This of course may be more work than what you have in mind.

When you showed the hole in the floor it reminded me of a little ditty we sang as kids....There's a place in France where the ladies do a dance and a hole in the wall where the men see it all. I didn't realize just how kinky that was.

You seem having a keen interest in the past of the convent. Me as a historian would be very interested too, if you would find one of the nuns who has lived there in the convent for an interview!

watching the attic vac footage was so satisfying! Also, love the idea for a hotel, but another idea would be efficiency apartments! More money, and less coming and going! How is the housing market in that area? if there is a shortage, that would fill the bill nicely

How cool was the start of the vlog. So good. Music to the start of the vlog. Way to go Ryan! Yes, Billy the idea of a hotel is fab idea, wish you would do it, leave a small door way on, to show how it was made. But then you can also have tours to the Chateau on a regular basis, and then by then Sadie may be starting the new horse stables. So many fun things for the Chateau, and the town. I mean, it's a long shot. I would stay there and then visit around and return as Paris is rather near by, but I been so I would do more rural places to go to. Those long box like items, may be the boxes behind the church benches to hold the churches misselets or chorus books, etc.. They seem rather deep for kneelers, just my thought. I love the vlog and looking to forward to tomorrow's Vlog. I'm guessing it's the "Cherry Picker" that will be purchased. It's a must need item with that building.

In support of your idea to have overnight accommodations at the convent, two brothers here in the Pacific Northwest of the US, the McMenamins, have converted many abandoned properties into hotels with cinemas, restaurants and bars, soaking pools, etc. My favorite is a former, depression-era poor farm property called Edgefield, located in the Columbia River Gorge just outside Portland, OR which has wonderful accommodations, restaurants, a working vegetable garden, many outbuildings (like the old power station, ice house, and sheds, etc) that serve a variety of drinks (all beer, wine and spirits are made on site), and also an outdoor music venue that hosts world famous groups. The decor is whimsical and some say it's got ghosts, which only adds to its allure. A recipe for success!

Glad to see the handrails taken down. Oak , you will find a use for them! Would you take the doors out if you make them suites? Only have one door in- dont know the building requirements for rentals. You have many choices for income producing from your property. That is wonderful!

With the opening shot of the roof, wouldn't it be great to have a power washer on a helicopter! And then a garbage chute from the attic to a dumpster!... Has anyone used a metal detector in the garden grounds? Since the convent has been around for ages, you may find some really awesome stuff! The only interesting things I've found in our old attic from our former house across the bay from San Fransisco where the water was turned on in 1906- were a few concussions I would incur when I would suddenly turn my head and forget there were 2 x 6 dimensional lumber cross beams to hold up the roof where my head wanted to go! It was a summer cottage for a local sugar family for years where rooms were added and several different wallpapers and newspaper( all without dates) would line the lathe and plaster walls for insulation. Many holes in the walls where the woodstove pipes were moved from old rooms to new ones as the cabin grew. After we renovated it to our liking, we couldn't afford the pricey lifestyle, so we moved to Nevada. The old house has completely been turned into something modern and doesn't 'fit' in the old neighborhood. Looks completely different and all our landscaping is gone! Ah! Progress!

I know im like, SUPER late to the party, but a hotel/ resteraunt/ wedding venue would be an amazing use of the building. The larger Mother Superior room as a bridal suite with the seperate bedroom and living space [for getting ready on the day] I mean theres even a chapel and grounds for photos, the large kitchen and other rooms for dining... AND youd still have space for other things, like the library could be a literal library or part of the market space you wanted
