About 30 years ago I was part of an archeological survey crew in SE Kentucky. We spent three months climbing up and down the hills and hollows and never saw anything strange or suspicious. That's not to say I don't believe strange things are out there in the woods, but I'm relieved I never experienced anything like that.

I been here in southeastern ky for 40+ years and I admit,everybody's not as civil,humane,friendly and tryna do right as much as myself,it seems.But I ain't never heard such o thing as ferals in KY.Lol.Also I've been in the woods,all over this area,a thousand plus times!But I get it!People that do things have a tendency to do the best they can.That means more and more stories!Right!Anyway,as far as a human being,people here don't seem to like a lot of change,change in infrastructure,buissnesses,removal of the mountains and woods,change in livelihood,they mostly just down to earth people,some God fearing,religious,friendly,hardworking,hardliving and good folks!On the other hand kentuckians dont like greedy folk,dont like outsiders nising around properties,dont like city folk trashing up the woods,mountains and srreams,dont like smartarses,dont like others bothering loved ones and dont like trashy drugs killing our loved ones!But ferals,no.And don't like incest,lol.The stories and chit you hear about this beautiful piece of land,I tell ya!Yet I wouldn't assume these stories are based on truth!BTW,to the haters🖕

@@KB-mf8efBullshit. Inbreeding turns people in to animals and there are plenty of inbred families out in those hills. Have you ever seen the Whitaker family? One of them barks like a dog and shits and pisses himself like a toddler. You think someone like that wouldn’t bash your head in with a rock if he was starving and found you sleeping? Just because you’ve never come across people like this doesn’t mean they don’t exist. They definitely exist.

I think the term "feral humans" isn't quite right. "Feral" is used to mean people who got lost as children and were raised by non-human animals or were deliberately locked away from the world during those years. Humans raised by other humans but living outside the normal "system" aren't really "feral." I'm unsure as to what to call them. It is possible that hermits take refuged in wooded or mountain areas. It is also possible that some people kind of got "lost' from normal society. But i'm not sure if stories constitute proof that either is a reality.
@euro_anchor

Language isn't as rigid a thing as you are treating it. People use the term feral for these people and so that's what it means. Besides, you haven't even presented an alternative.

I really doubt there are any "The Hills Have Eyes" murderous cannibals in southeast KY mountains. Really, there's too much "horror movie" in such stories. What is really being discussed are people who just live a simple lifestyle in the woods and don't bother with "modern" life.
