Today we are sitting down with one of the greatest Running Backs to ever touch the field as 2x SuperBowl Champion and Hall of Famer, Terrell Davis.
In a moving conversation covering everything from his strict upbringing, the adversity he faced on the gridiron, and reflecting on the key moments that have been pivotal in building him into the man he is today, Terrell proudly shares his trials and tribulations with the world.
Following the recent surge of research and acceptance of CBD’s health benefits for athletes, Davis launched Defy, a CBD-infused sports drink company designed for athletes. Known for winning big at the Beverage Digest 2022 Awards, Terrell reflects on how his perception has completely changed and the mission of the company.
Reflecting, Ryan asks Terrell about his father’s parenting and strict upbringing. From being the youngest of six children and always seeking approval from his father, Terrell struggled with
understanding if his dad loved him. He speaks about his father's extreme parenting tactics and even walks Ryan, Fred, and Channing through the moment his father shoots a gun over their heads.
Although Terrell wouldn’t parent that way today, he shares his ability to see the positive in what the world would consider negative parenting of his father.
Seeking ways to appease his father, Terrell took a liking to football because he knew his father enjoyed the contact of the game. He shares candid stories about dominating on the field at a young age but his turning point was the passing of his father because the reason he started playing was no longer present. No stranger to adversity, TD talks about the struggles he faced in his collegiate and rookie seasons and the conversations he had internally to change it around.
Oh, how the tables have turned! Terrell takes the time to give Fred Taylor his flowers and says he believes Fred was the most skilled Running Back to ever touch the field. High regards from someone Fred considered a role model, they take their time to discuss the HOF criteria. Of all his accomplishments, Terrell still wonders if he’s made his father proud.

Great interview. Freddie T. Will be in the hall of fame at some point and it’s pitiful that he’s not already in. They need to let the players make those decisions and not people who have never played on that level.

My all time favorite NFL RB. Growing up as a kid in the 90s watching TD dominate those two Super Bowl seasons with the Broncos doing the “Mile high salute" classic! I was so glad when he made the HOF.

TD a good dude. Our kids run track in the Valley Youth Conference in the LA area. He shows love, signs autographs, takes pics, gives advice. Real down to earth family man. No ego at all.

Playing Running Back freshman year in HS was because of TD. I remember we all loved the Salute celebration and his style of running, combine with power, grace and vision set him apart during his prime. A legend.

`Terrell Davis stories on his upbringing rings true with me, not as crazy, but similar in parental toughness and harshness towards their kids, especially the boys. I was born and raised in Jamaica, and if anyone is familiar with Jamaican upbringing, from both parents, moms and pops, it can be brutal at times. This is why I enjoy the/Piv0t podcast so much, the relatable stories of its guests. Some of them so surreal. Another GEM.

TD does not get enough credit for what he did and what kind of humble man he is. Really enjoyed this one.

This was an inspirational piece. Hearing TDs motivations when nothing felt right and nothing was easy, he was able to give it another shot and not quit. Awesome

Before being an hall of fame player TD is a hall of fame person, that's the reason why he had so much success in his life. As a 42 yo Broncomaniac I still remember him playing like it was yesterday. I can not be more proud of him so I salute him like he did many times to us after scoring Tds with a Mile High Salute.

Hello to The Pivot and everyone involved with the show.Great show with TD who earned everything through his work ethic and determination. I been watching football since 1970 without a doubt TD deserved that gold jacket. He dominated while he played in the NFL. As a Cowboy fan I got tired of seeing him running through the defense like he was back being 12 years old running back 😆. To Freaky Fred Taylor your gold jacket is long overdue my brother yous also dominated with the football in your hands
