C4D Tutorial: Setting Up Spline Dynamics

Just a little beginners tutorial on how to set up spline dynamics in Cinema 4D so you can have cables, ropes etc. that are dynamic. Hope it helps!

If you are having trouble with the spline "curling" change the spline type from Bezier to Linear

Hi! thank you for such a good tutorial! I have question, so I want to make the spline is have "weight" on it. Its made of cable, not as light as hair, so when I moved things the spline not as bouncy as a hair. Can we give such a setting for the spline? Thanks in advance! edit: oh, I found it! its in spline, go to dynamic attributes change the "drag" from 0 to 100

Thanks for the tutorial! I struggled with this for a while, and never really came up with a solution, but i'll ask anyway. With spline dynamics, is it possible when you move one of the poles with the rope attached, is there a way to keep the length of the spline constant / fixed and then pull the other pole with it once it gets fully extended?

You can use the character constraint tools to prevent the pole from going to far and pull the other one. On the note of getting this to be a set length I am not too sure?

Hello, i hope i get a answer to my question to an 3 years old tutorial video :D When i put a spline dynamic tag on the spline, the spline dissapears. i changed from bezir to b-spline- linear or something but same problem. Maybe anyone knows a solve for this Bug? THX

I have a question if you please i made a sail by cloth tag and hanged it by a rope which is a sweep spline made of hair tag connection to a null in the wood up when i press play the sail falls down and the spline elongates with it endless so i cannot fix the sail to be hanged

Hi, this is really helpful. But I want my constraint to follow an object. In this case a kite. Is there a way for the constraint to track the movement of the object it is constrained to? I don't mean a change in a static scene, I mean and object that needs to move through the scene.

I believe you could just add a Hair Collider tag so they would not intersect each other...

thanks for this but how do I take a constraint tag off mid animation so that it looks like the rope has fallen?

In your Constraint Tag there is a parameter called "Influence." Just keyframe that at 100% and then on the next frame change it to 0% and add a keyframe. That will turn off the constraint tag at that point and it will fall. Cheers!
