Oregon is really good and really well coached. We just made too many mistakes. I do agree that in the big games Day could get more creative and needs to do a better job of clock management. OSU still has a great shot, they just have to go out and do it! If they can win at Happy Valley they will win it all!

Austin is clearly the voice for RD and doesn’t want to blame him in any way. He’s been after LJ and the dline for 3 years now & in some cases rightfully so. But the defense got a stop on the goal line, and held them to 3 points on that last drive with essentially 2 mins left for the offense to get a field goal. The clock mgmt and play calling is on chip and RD, PERIOD.

Our fanbase is freaking out way too much over this game. Yes losing is unacceptable. But Oregon needed everything to beat us. The home game environment, weird officiating in a 2 minute drill, and play the rules with 12 men on the field. Oregon isn’t a bad team either. That’s the best wr room we’ve played since 2020 Bama and I’m glad we’re learning these lessons now rather than in January.

$20million was supposed to get Ryan Day past his, now cemented, legacy of underperforming with the most amount of elite talent in college football, that he’s had the past 4+yrs. *Day may very well be a great QB coach. But, he flat out does NOT have the ability to get this team prepared to play in big games.*. And, this team has been struggling with these problems from day 1. Marshall went down in seconds, in the first quarter, and scored…picking apart this. “NFL quality” secondary. Fans aren’t aren’t angry about this game because they lost. We ALL knew that could happen, and that Oregon was a great team. People are angry because of the DISGUSTINGLY amateur, unprepared, physically/mentally weak, undisciplined, out-coached, SLOPPY performance they put on. Had OSU played fundamentally sound football, and got beat by the better team, then it would be a different story. These guys are getting wealthy playing for OSU, and we’re seeing RB’s get balls just taken out of their hands without even being hit, QB’s just falling (and dropping snaps). It’s like this is the culmination of the Ryan Day era. Even $20million can’t get this team prepared to play 60min of solid football.

Years ago, John Cooper told one of his players (who was wanting to go into the NFL early) that in College excellent performance is expected….in the NFL it’s demanded. It matters to the kids who demand it, to the fans/boosters who raise the money to pay them, and the money spent on this roster mattered to every sports show on cable, or KZbin for the past year. If it didn’t matter, no one would talk about it, teams wouldn’t be spending it, and NIL wouldn’t be the most dominant issue in recruiting at this point. *When a 5-star athletes demands $1+million to play college football, he does it based on the value (and arrogance) he brings to the team. *So it’s safe to say that you didn’t put an OUNCE of thought into that comment.* With that said, I’ve NEVER agree’d with NIL, to say the very least. Handing a child who’s still waiting for their 2nd nut to drop 6-7 figures to play “professional college football” is an astronomically HIORRIBLE idea, and is downright toxic to an already dying sport, for a LOT of reasons, some of which that have nothing to do with football. Most of these entitled, ungrateful, indoctrinated, little pus-sacs have never held a job in their life, have NO CLUE, whatsoever what it means to be employed, or, have ANY comprehension of the demands/responsibility that go along with receiving a check….especially, in that amount of money. And it creates an enormous amount of resent form the fans, people writing those checks, and students who are paying for their education. It’s just a matter of time before these perpetually-entitled, children start showing up with an “I get paid whether the team wins or not” attitude. It wouldn’t surprise me if that’s already happening, given the epidemic number of upsets, as of late. But, I digress…. If these players can’t rise to their level of pay, then a lot of us will do everything in our power to remind these “professional college student-athletes” (sounds incredibly stupid if you say that out loud) that they have a contractual obligation to play at the level of pay they demanded. And, if for some reason they can’t/won’t….then IMO they shouldn’t receive a dime. If the team doesn’t win, none of them should receive a dime. And, until that idea is implemented, then the people who pay those kids ( the fans/boosters etc) have an obligation to remind those kids of that contract in the most vile, vulgar, disrespectful manner possible. How much do you make at your job, slick? Now, when you decide to suck at what you do, and you happen to perform like that when it mattered the most, look your boss dead in the eye, while he’s lecturing you and say something absolutely brilliant like “do you really think that the fact that you’re paying me to do a job, matters?”. Watch how well that works out for you. These kids knew what they were getting into with NIL. They were warned throughout all the NIL discussions for this reason alone.

Austin asked Birm what he meant by Ryan Day needs to get creative: take the successful onside kick or Lanning’s attempt at the 2 point conversion (which was a stumble away from being successful) - have you ever seen Ryan Day try, much less be successful at that kind of outside of the box thinking in a big game? I haven’t. I’ve seen one or two really badly timed fake punts but that’s about it. That’s what we mean by taking chances and out thinking the competition in big moments. In big moments like Oregon, Georgia, and Michigan day seems like he’s in a perpetual stumble trying to catch himself on a fall. He’s never in attack mode despite having comparable if not better talent at most positions.

All is not lost. I'm not going to downplay a loss but we had multiple opportunities to beat them and it didn't happen. Nobody won a national championship last weekend. I know in Buckeyenation we expect our boys to win every game played but that doesn't mean the season is over. I'm watching how this team responds because that's what's important. Clemson Georgia and Alabama all took shots and we gotta take ours. We'll find out what type of grit these boys have this year if it's just all talk all sizzle no steaks. How we bounce back will reflect directly on our team and coaches. Everything is still in front of us with the opportunity to right our wrongs against States College ann arbor and possibly Oregon again. Oregon drew first blood but we gotta respond now. We have no choice. We lost that game to ourselves more than Oregon won it IMO. Don't drive yourselves crazy over one game in early October just yet Nutters. The main issue was the defence. The d line didn’t have any sack or any notable pressure on the quarterback which had all the night to throw the ball. There is some blame to put on Burke but you could say he would bounce back and that was only a bad game for him. You could find many issues especially when you lose but actually solving the root issues would gradually tackles the others. The thing to fix now is D line and go from there.

Didn’t get any of the 50/50 plays, except the interception on the first drive that led to 7, but ok. 2 PI’s that were not called that led to Oregon punting. Oregon played a B game. You should be worried if they both make it to round 2.

COACHING MALPRACTICE This entire conversation would've been different had OSU simply run the ball at the ORE 28 with 34 seconds left on the clock. You gain whatever additional yards you can, you protect the ball, and you bleed clock so ORE can't get another possession, all while setting up an easy, 35-yd FG by Fielding, who'd made a 40-yd FG earlier in the game. This is what 99.9999999% of competent coaches would've done and what NDSU did in 2016 at IOWA. Kelly and Day committed coaching malpractice.

@@buckguy720 Yes, as I said, you're at the ORE 28. Keep the ball on the ground, and try to pick up as many yards as you can, maybe 10 more, with your big-boy package and a trusted back. That takes you to the ORE 18, which makes for an easy 35-yd FG, well within Fielding's range. The win was there for the taking. This is what OSU must do every time it's within FG range. Games are different, kickers are different, field positions are different. You can't be afraid to do the right thing because it didn't work with a different kicker in a different game with different (i.e., far worse) field position.

Oregon isn’t just a good team but a great one, and right now they are a little bit better than OSU. We didn’t play “awful” we just got beat. The cope from these guys and false narratives from these guys is embarrassing. Take the loss like a man. Season is not over, learn from it and get better for the rematch in Indy. And nobody on D knows how to tackle. Is it scheme? NOPE it's fucking heart and playing like a killer. I'm sorry, but OSU was favored on the road. OSU was sold as nothing but the best team in the country. OSU was again a preseason favorite to be in the national championship. OSU brought all the best players from the portal. Again, OSU fell short and can't get it done. The Ryan Day problem is still there, and you still have to play Penn State.
