@@rklkify On a side note guard can be absurdly cheap if someone is fine with you playing green army men. They come with all kinds of funny poses and weapons you can use to denote special load outs, like the mortar ones are now a basilisk. And styrofoam fruit with a toothpick is now your "Lemon Russ". Go ahead and sharpie which model type it is on top. A plastic knife is your Bane'blade'. Really any army can be fully built for less than $50 if you only care about the game and not about the models. And the terrain is built out of some tape and the cardboard from the Amazon boxes your fake models came in.

I think printed Vs retail plastic is a really good metric to look at. I recently printed a GSC army which cost me about £100-£120 (I bought quality stls for nearly every model which was £75 of the cost). If I had bought the equivalent through a retailer who offers 20% off retail value it would've cost me £560 and that's if the models had all been available (they weren't) and if I had managed to eBay the primus models that you seem only able to buy in a pack. Printed also means being able to print different load outs as things change and even do digital kitbashes. This is probably the most money I've ever spent printing an army but it's already 5 times cheaper than the alternative and gives good flexibility.

43:09 The best value space wolves kit is actually Blood Claws which is literally just Grey Hunters for the same price with an extra 5 man sprue, the best part is the box builds Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, and Wolf Guard meaning it's around 4 ppd and you can run up to 12 of it in an army

So I've been doing some math myself and i found out that ( in my limited research) the cheapest army you can buy if you were to use exclusively GW miniatures, and use legends datasheets, is chaos space marines, specifically alpha legion CSM. In fact, you could make a 2000 pt army of alpha legion with just TWO KITS! those kits are the Horus Heresy age of darkness box set and the chaos space marines legionaries box. With a little bit of kit conversion and usage of legends datasheets, you have an army that costs only five dollars less than three custodes combat patrols and has about 50-100 pts more. Now I know that you probably want more than just a legionnaires box(the kill team box being a good alternative) and the army is VERY infantry heavy. But of you want a cheap army that isn’t custodes and is at a good scale(grey knights), that’s the best thing I can think of.

Yeah... they are 840 SEK here (Sweden), which is about $75 USD. Still dont know why I would buy them though. Pointwise, they are about the same as a trio of crisis or a ghostkeel, but crisis got more dakka, and ghostkeel are better at flanking/holding objectives. What do riptides even do? Hell, had they atleast gotten anti, then I would have seen a use for them.. Tau really need some anti... like, soon, the memes about Tau not having melee will swap for Tau being unable to deal with armour.

You know actually I made one too for 30k Admech. Their points per dollar are pretty atrocious there. My worst that I could find was .62 points/ dollar on the tech thralls (their basic trooos in 30k). 41:25 Ill have to check the Auspex video because maybe I missed something, but a Primaris Crusader Squad box only has a 10 man squad in it, which is 140 points for $60 MSRP. Heck, Assault Intercessors are a better ratio

There’s a reason these guys (I think it was them, could’ve been another person) said that Krieg should become the face of IG. They’re probably the most popular regiment in the fandom, their design evokes the “unknown billions of the frontline” that guard is supposed to be. In lore, they’re probably putting out the most soldiers over any other planet. They definitely fit the WW1 style of the Guard more too, but they’ve definitely been pushing more towards WW2 with the Rogal Dorn.

One fun thing to note is kit versatility. Take knights for example, it is almost impossible to make a bad purchase for that army. one questoris kit, with a handful of magnets, can make 7 different data-sheets, that can be changed on the fly, as you experiment with army building. The only other model who can match that is probably the russ.

I feel like not just using the plastic contemptor for Custodes because its labeled for 30k isn't quite right but I suppose it makes little difference. Edit: Since you brought up Relic Terminators, if it is plastic, Forge World doesn't sell it. The kit is primarily for 30k, but it is a GW kit.

@dcruize I can get a resin 3d printer for about $500, with resin. There are countless free stls out there. One page rules is free. So, for an investment of $500, I can build whatever army I want and can even play games like star wars legion or shatterpoint, and I can 3d other things that I may want. I don't think that 20% cheaper than GW or ebay minis can compare to that.

@@aristotle29 I've picked up 1k of GSC this month new on sprue (except one well painted neophyte squad+Locus) for just under £100 from eBay, so it's not too expensive. @aristotle29 Жыл бұрын
@dcruize so you got a crazy deal that totally sounds made up? Good for you. But that is rare, to say the least. Just because you only play Warhammer doesn't mean that other people can't play other things. Also, if the minis were dirt cheap to make, it wouldn't be that hard to make a spare army for another person to play a new game. Again, seeing the price tag of any of these games is enough to drive anyone away. Did painting minis work for you right out of the box? Sounds like it's something that you have to practice with and put some work in to get better at. Just like every other skill in the world.

At current, you can make Tyranids work for $500. You buy 3x $60 Hive Tyrants, and make a winged, walking, and swarmlord. Then 3x $60 Tyranofex. Then buy the $110 40k starter set which gives you, 2x10 Termagaunts, 2x1 Ripper Swarm, 1x3 Von Ryans Leapers, 1x1 Psycophage, and 1x1 Winged Tyranid Prime. That brings you to $490 and 1875 points before enhancements. Alien Cunning, Perfectly Adapted and Adaptive Biology on your characters in the Invasion Fleet brings the total to 1945 points for $490 MSRP + some random space marines. Edit: Spelling

Here's an idea for you to analyze: Factions with the most profiles that are unusable. For example: Tau combat drone squads are absolutely not worth bringing on the field for their points and capability. You mention in this video about how some of the factions need more profiles, but this is even more exemplified by the factions that have limited profiles AND some/many of them being unusable.

And with a 3d printer and some Sunloo Water Washable Grey Resin, you can print out most units at like 50-300 points per dollar.Custodes/Grey nights you can literally print an army for less than ten bucks if you hollow and are careful with your supports and such. Plus bases, bases do add a bit if you print them, or buy them, but I think I make my case. Space marines coming out at like 15-25 cents per unit, IG and sisters like 10-18 cents each, an IG sentinel with all weapon options for $1.20 (base included), you get my point. If you're playing with friends, just buy a printer, even maybe a share buy for your gaming group, and ever just gets to take turns on printing time with it (just pop someone elses print off the base and leave it in a UV proof box for them to come buy and clean up all their prints whenever it's their time). If your club just wants to mess around with trying other armies, or trying new minis to pain or other things, it's a good buy. And if split that's like $50 per person for the up front investment.

I do love the efficiency of "dead Queen coins" since that hits almost the entire Commonwealth. A most palpable hit, sir. One of the things this episode is highlighting is that it is *weird* to me how 40K has taught us that every datasheet should have a separate model or kit. It's very, very different from many games and very different even from the beginning of 40K where there were a handful of actual models, but they gave you lots of options for how to use them in the game and you just painted/kitbashed them to be what you wanted. I dunno, this is probably me entering my "get off my lawn" stage but to me it's not odd that 20% of the Drukhari stats sheets don't have official models, it's odd that 90% of the Eldar *do*.

One kit I always appreciated was the Tzeentch Chariot. You can build it into either the Burning Chariot and a Herald on foot or you can build it into the Exalted Chariot and have the Exalted Flamer on foot. If you dont feel like attaching the blue horrors to the chariot as decoration you can just put them on some small bases. Getting two separate units and some extra blue horrors for the price on one box is nice. If you can find this kit as part of the start collecting tzeentch box its even better.
