Awesome video, bro, Cliff Stamp would be proud and happy that at least one person understood what he and Roman Landes were talking about. Good on you. Edge Geometry, Blade Geometry, Cutting Ability, and Ergomonics along with Sheath/Carry Method. Nice to see that steel type wasn't even mentioned in the importance of what makes a good knife, as it should be if I do say so myself. Wish Nitrobe 77 was less expensive and more available, that is a steel to be excited about. LC200N, AEB-L, and MagnaCut along with 52100 are steels I would take also, I haven't gotten my hands on any MagnaCut yet, but to actually be able to sort out a difference in steel other than corrosion resistance is hard and I don't have the skill or the time and energy to sort out steel difference vs edge and blade geometry as well as cutting ability. Cliff Stamp was one of the only people I ever saw be able to guess what a lot of five steels were through testing, but he did a metric ton of cutting and also had a PhD in Physics, so he could set up an experiment to sort that out. My expertise is more in computers. Again, great video!

Awesome video, Jacob. I had been eyeballing this knife but I was concerned about the handle length, as I have huge mitts. I ended up getting a Lionsteel M2M with an Armatus sheath for a total of $175 shipped. What are your thoughts on that knife? It will be my first Lionsteel, as I almost exclusively buy USA made knives. I love Reiff, by the way. I dang near sleep with my F6 Magnacut.

The Ulti-Clip and the pivot mount that company makes are awesome, I have both of them and I really like them, I am thinking about offering them as an at cost option for my knives, I like the product so much. It just almost doubles the prices of my knives however, believe it or not.

Whats better magnacut or 3v?
@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors4 ай бұрын
@Frd4Lf better is relative, and our data, or at least my data, on magnacut is still limited. To maybe over simplify thing I would say 3v is better for toughness and magnacut is better for corrosion resistance and edge holding.

That’s the thing that I don’t think a lot of people gets. The Reiff is $300 but the fit/finish is top tier. It’s ready to go out of the box and amazing. I like the Esee 3 and still highly suggest the it. But if you were to upgrade the sheath and scales you still would be spending a decent amount and not have as nice of a knife. I was thinking about it with even my Ursus Cub, really love that knife but by the time I put a decent sheath and better scales and Ulticlip I’d have more into it than the Reiff even. Good video. I need to do some comparisons myself
@InGratitudeIam4 ай бұрын
You've made some very helpful observations, Jacob. On the small side, I have a WRK Ursus Cub; the ESEE Sencillo; the Reiff F3XC (CPM 3V); and a couple of Jackalopes. I ordered the Circadian ($285). While it seems that I've already covered my bases, I really haven't. In using the WRK UC and Sencillo extensively, I've found that I don't like using them for extended periods. The scales on the UC are great but it's not as slicey as the Sencillo. The Sencillo easily outperforms other knives in terms of blade shape, but the scales aren't comfortable for my XL hands for extended use. The F3XC has a thicker blade but with better scales. Since having surgery on my wrist, ergonomics and blade shape make a big difference. The Circadian, I think, will be the best of both worlds. If only they offered lanyard beads.
@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors4 ай бұрын
@InGratitudeIam that was something I was going to mention was that for the sheath setup i wanted a lanyard and bead- I actually wanted to do one before the video and I forgot. It has one now.

Nice presentation and review of a nice knife. I however think that an Edge shoulder thickness of 0.025" on a small knife like this is literally twice of what it should be, especially being made of steel with respectable toughness. Reiff should take advantage of this and thin the edge. For a knife this size (small) with steel this quality, an edge like this 0.012"/10-12 dps would offer much higher performance... unless, of course, one plans on chiseling through nails resting on an anvil. But for real life tasks, the above mentioned edge geometry would be much better. JMO.
@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors4 ай бұрын
@S.Vallieres I don't think will ever see a bush related knife with an edge that thick. .025 is PLENTY with this grind to be slicier than most production blades and at .010 with this ffg numbskulls would be destroying knives right and left, I have ABSOLUTELY no doubt. With that being said the edge sure does feel thinner than .025 so I think I need to look again. It looks and feels in memory more like .015- .018

@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors People are abusing knives a lot and by filming and putting that on YT, it creates too high durability demands and expectations which makes knife companies in a position where they essentially need to overbuilt knives which in turn reduces performance/cutting ability. Here are some videos of interest showing what even very low durability geometries can do: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmeniWtprJ5ohcUsi=5xVbsrj03A7EIJYT kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYvQp5ScrKl6o7csi=j53r6qQHi3R3e9Ux If you have and take the time to watch them, I would highly suggest paying attention to their descriptions, including the geometry specs/numbers. As a side note, he uses the term Apex bevel in these videos, but he has also used the term Edge bevel in some other videos to apparently designate the same thing.
@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors4 ай бұрын
@S.Vallieres ill watch those but it'll take a bit. Cliff Stamp is an absolute legend. With that said, I have had some thin knives fail on me before. I have also had knives that never took any damage but I let a student in class or a friend borrow it for 10 seconds and it comes back mauled. As a manufacture you have to take this variation in user's into account.

Too expensive. The word VALUE does not fit with 300.00. Most people won't USE a 300.00 knife. 120.00 - 150.00 is the what a useable knife should cost. Doesn't have any artistic value or collectable value.
