You cooked up a good supper, Corie! I love how Austin helped you clean up the dishes afterwards. Don’t see to many men do that, it’s always the woman that does all the cooking and cleaning, at least in my household. It’s refreshing to see a man help out in the household. You are both blessed to have each other and work as partners in life. That makes for a happy marriage.

It's midnight, but I had to make a can of green beans, because you make them look so good! This is how my grandma in Oklahoma made them, except sometimes she'd use some beef broth instead of the water. Bacon grease is a must! So that's the perfect midnight snack for tonight. Thank you.

Cori, I also liked sweet potatoes cut up and baked. I really enjoy oiling the cut sides and placing them cut side down on a foil lined baking sheet. The flesh of the potatoes then become caramelized and soft and tasty. Sometimes I'll drizzle a bit of real maple syrup on them as well. thanks for taking me along your supper cooking. A happy belated first wedding anniversary to you and Austin

Sweetheart, you have the makings of a true blue southern cook! Your dear mother taught you well. I'm a north FL born and bred native and was raised on my mother's, grandmother's great grandmother's, etc. recipes. I specifically differentiate myself as a north Floridian for a reason. We in the north and (largely) the panhandle region of FL are almost all that is left of what used to be called "Florida Crackers". Mainly because we were born and raised in the houses that were slangly called 'shotgun houses'. Thusly called because the way they were built if you opened the front door and the back door, you could shoot a shotgun and it would go straight through. I know, it doesn't make total sense, but you get the gist. Also because we hold dear and try to continue the down home country cooking dishes that have stood the test of time because they are simply delicious. I've watched enough of your mother's recipes to know that I identify very closely, with few exceptions, of how all my family cooked their food. I wouldn't trade my grandmother's Sunday after church dinners, nor my coming home from school with the smell before i even got home knowing it was coming from my house, for anything in this world. Keep up you and your sister's traditions at any costs. We love you all!!

That's the way I cook!! Love fried cabbage and soft green beans. I cannot stand to eat green beans when they are still hard. So good to see you both work together!! That's the way it should be! Just a thought, not to be critical but one thing I learned the hard way was to have 2 cutting boards, one for meat and one for vegetables. When I used only one for everything it cross contaminated and I got pretty sick once. Just my 2 cents. Love the channel!

I know some people who don’t like cooked cabbage, but I love it. I don’t chop mine as finely as you do, as I like the texture. Sometimes I add both onions and garlic. The 3 with meat approach to meal making is a no brainer and ensures well-balanced eating. Just like a man, your hubby like the chicken best, but I always tend to favor the vegetables. Sometimes I sub a fruit for a veg.

A spoon full of bacon grease in the cabbage is good too! I use butter and bacon grease to fry mine. Also, a beef bouillon cube, or two, in your green beans gives them a good flavor. If by chance you don't have bacon grease. To me, there's nothing better than coming home to the smell of supper on the stove. Can't beat good old country cooking!

The only thing with southern cooking is the use of pork. I’m Jewish, so I can’t eat it. But I will occasionally sneak some fatback if I make green beans. The second day is always the best! I always ask forgiveness if I sneak pork. I think the big guy will cut me some slack!😊

Happy anniversary 🎉. Me and my hubby celebrate ours on the 21st. We had saved our cake for the first year also. I made frozen pizza because that's what we had on our honeymoon. A friend had given us their condo up in the mountains at a ski resort. It was all closed up. Stale pizza in the freezer but we were married that's all that mattered. 24 years ago. Now we live in the foothills of the same mountain. I'm gonna make chicken legs and coleslaw for dinner. Thank you for the good idea 💡
