Just speaking and arguing about "how old my language is" is not worth, it would do some service to the culture if the city which enriched the language is cleaned and respected. So is it with all those historical cities in India... We as Indians love to glorify all historical personalities but no sense of cleanliness when it comes to the places where those personalities lived.. @priyangamurugesan5146 Yes, the Vijayanagara empire was a result of resentment from the Islamic invasions, specifically the Delhi Sultanate at that time (whose feifdoms they overthrew) while establishing themselves, and then later the Bahmani Sultanate (who they fought and resisted)... Finally during their fall, rulers like the Nawab of Arcot were the ones who profited. We Tamilians take for granted the effects of Islamic invasion... Even in the lore at my home, there are stories of how our heroes managed to preserve treasury and deities (from a religious standpoint) from temple raids during that period... Now I'm not making a comment against a religion or community, fact of the matter was the Turkic (Islamic in their own words) invasions of India (and their respective sultanates), sucked the wealth out of the country, were the bloodiest seen in our history and openly bigoted/genocidal. Sellswords and somewhat compliant people stood some chance, that's all.

A very valid concern! The history and contributions of Tamils have indeed been overlooked and for far too long, especially after independence of subcontinent. Tamil is one of the oldest surviving classical language in the world, with a rich literary tradition spanning over 5000+ years. The ancient Tamil civilization, which flourished in subcontinent and northern Sri Lanka, made significant contributions to art, architecture, literature, music, dance, and philosophy. The Tamil literary canon, known as Sangam literature, comprises works from the 5th century BCE to the 3rd century CE. These texts, such as the Thirukkural, Purananuru, and Akananuru, are considered some of the greatest works of ancient Tamil literature. Despite this rich cultural heritage, the history and contributions of Tamils have often been marginalized or ignored in mainstream country's narratives. This has led to a sense of cultural and historical disconnection among Tamils, both within subcontinent and globally. It's essential to recognize and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Tamils and to work towards a more inclusive and nuanced understanding of whole history and culture of nation.🎉🎉🎉

Ok. I believe Anirudh makes a huge assumption when he says that all these merchants were ‘Tamils’. Inscriptions were in Tamil, and Grantha and Brahmi and Sanskrit. The official language of the Cholas was Tamil and therefore inscriptions were in the official language - but to assume that all South Indian merchants operating in the South East Asia were Tamil is just shortsighted and un-academic. It’s a big assumption and a loose one at that!
@dharun540716 күн бұрын
Of course not. The Guilds themselves must have comprised of merchants from different parts. But what we do know is that the merchants who worked with the Cholas most likely spoke Tamil judging from the inscriptions they themselves left. The guild “Ainuruvar” (who have left a handful of Tamil inscriptions) during the reign of the Cholas had a large number of Tamil merchants at this time compared to earlier periods. This also explains their (the guilds) influence in SEA in the following years because of the Chola expedition that they themselves had a hand in helping.
@si8lk16 күн бұрын
@@dharun5407couple of factual errors in your post. Manigramam was the merchant guild operating in Tamil regions. The 500 Lords of Ayyavolu (Ainuruvar as you call them) was based out of the Deccan. Second majority of inscriptions were always in the official language of the kingdom. Therefore, to assume that all merchants spoke Tamil just because inscriptions were in a certain language is quite simplistic. Societies are never that monolithic. Resources and raw materials are spread all over the country and therefore merchant guilds were also quite diverse. Please read up on medieval merchant guilds of south India. I can suggest a couple of books if you wish.

@@si8lk “There were a large number of Tamils at this time”. They were indeed from Karnataka. But during Raja Raja and Rajendra’s regime they ended up in some sort of partnership. They might have been provided provisions to operate in Rajendra’s new capital too. And some say “the 5 hundreds” might be a misnomer. It could refer to a number of guilds under the same name with no central authority. At this time not only did Manigramam and the Ainuruvar work in the Tamil regions but so did other guilds such Nanadesi and Pathinenvisayathar. It’s unlikely they restricted their operations within the Deccan since their presence in the Chola heartland is very evident through Inscriptions.

complete idiotic explanation. Chola empire have fallen due to the Tax abolishment scheme by kulothunga chola who is the chalukiya from father side. previously the tax are collected by agambadiyar people (present day agamudayar caste -the original blood lines of original cholars) from the merchants. Agambadiyar people are the one who collected the tax from the people and merchants and they had a excellent lifestyle and extreme privileges .But The tax abolishment by kulothunga made the agambadiyar army depended on merchants rather than the the government so first time in history they have changed into mercenary army who depends on the merchants rather than the king. The Pandiyan kings rival of chola , taken this excellent opportunity and they have attracted the merchants about providing many towns to cities too settled down in pandiya country. And the merchants named as nattukottai chettiyars made the migration from kaveri poom pattinam the ancient place of the merchants to pandiyan country. As the agambadiyar army now depended merchants also migrated to pandiyan country . The migration was too big that the most of the chola standing army was collapsed but even came to pandiya country but in some wars the agambadiyar army who are in pandiya country (named as elagathar) supported chola but after some time pandiyar kings made extreme privileges and has marriage alliance with agambadiyar people made them ,change of support to pandiya kings . This way chola army weakened and pandiyar has woen the war against chola( All this information are recorded in the inscriptions of chola and pandiyas) and we are going to publish ebook with full of references about this issue.

Cholas and for that matter European / Western emperors ruled by mixing religions faith with politics and force through the military. The concept of God King, meaning a particular person of royal lineage who was 'ordained' by God was prevalent. The emphasis was to equate the King or emperor as God on earth. Be it Shiva or Jesus. This is one of the main reasons besides other important financial/ trade reasons to build temples. And was accepted by the ruled as such. Which lent credibility to the King and his administration.

Ancient Tamil County ruled by cholas panyas was by in itself was a Civilizational state. தமிழ் belongs to all. தமிழ் was a language pan Indian subcontinent....But Aryan invasion happened and it lost its importance just as Buddhism and Jainism did. This is the reason why the propaganda by right wing still not sold in South India especially TN 😂😂😂

Raja Raja cholan and his ancestors from 6 th century were Telugus , evidence Malepadu copper plates , Madras Museum Plates , Anbil copper plates and Archeological Survey of India Annual Report 1957 - 1959 ,, but this fact is not talked about at all. Why this distortion in history books??
@kircyclone15 күн бұрын
boss... i think someone has give you fake news... no copper plates claimed that... and FYI there were no tamil cholas in 6th century, at that time tamilnadu was ruled by kalabras. the middle chola empire was establish around 848 AD only... There was telugu cholas who were descendants of Tamil chola emperor Karikala chola (thats what they claim). They ruled the southern andhra pradesh area, not any part of tamilnadu. They are different cholas... they were called Telugu Chodas..

It was an empire based on loot once the loot sezied it collapsed since it couldnt sustain itself. Its biggest milestone was making greater Tamil or tamil elam based on conquest ir taking trade routes and sri lanka by sheer power. Sri Lanka has documents proving how they fought and what they did to survive. Like all colonial empire cholas also died and their victims had a relief. Chola's foundation was flawed and based on loot thus it was not sustainable for long.

The highest cultural glory of India was under the cholas .. only indian empire to possess influence overseas and beyond..indian ocean Monopoly.. cholas had only competitor was song china..navy, architecture and culture was unmatched.. Raja Raja chola one of the greatest ruler in history and Rajendra chola one of the greatest conqueror in history..only fault they did is they never impose their belief and culture on others ..the generosity of tamils was now backlash them..they were the cultural military and political superpower of South and southeast Asia..their influence from ganges to java to Maldives to Phillipines..

@@raghuls1515 sheer lies. Cholas were the biggest abusers. They imposed their language and culture on others. They do it even now. They laid the foundation of empire based on loot, abuses, racial supremacy. Cholas didn't influence the culture on others but imposed on others. Thus cholas laid the foundation of Tamil radicalisation through linguistic and cultural means which their society still follows and thus every non tamilian is fed of them. Do u see any other empire as barbaric as Cholas. Even Andhra had many Telgu empire but they were not like cholas. Do u see any North Indian empire like them? Did other civilizations like the Chinese or greeks even praised cholas or had regard for them? Certainly not. Cholas are great only for radical Tamilains who are hell bent on asserting their fabricated history.
