Savarkar in the book says that we should have put on a resistence like invaders did upon us. This single line is wrong intrerpreted by the speaker in this video. The culript here is The Wire who wrote an entire article on it and the speaker read. Vikram Sampath has explained this in his interview.

Savarkar had very impractical aspirations of turning the whole country into a Hindu nation. After so many religions established in the country for decades, it is not practical to do Shuddhikaran, there is a need of acceptance and tolerance towards each other! Though I respect him for promoting campaigns against untouchability and standing against the Sanatan community. But it is very difficult to revolt against the whole feudal system established for years. Equality can be achieved only when the Constitution is implemented well by all its people.

After undergoing nearly 15 years of torturous imprisonment in the Andamans, Savarkar focused on social reforms after his release. He wanted to eradicate the indigenous practices that were creating differences in Bharatiya society. Savarkar once said, “He who gives up verbosity and acts as per the principle of ‘irrespective of whether others do it or not, as far as I am concerned, I will practice reform on a daily basis’ alone is a true reformer.” (‘Hindutvache panchapran’ or The Spirit of Hindutva; Samagra Savarkar Vangmaya, edited by SR Date, Vol. 3, p.75). ADVERTISEMENT Savarkar was a strong critic of the caste system and ensured that children of the so-called lower castes attend school. He gave monetary incentives to their parents and distributed slate and chalk to children from these castes. Savarkar said, “Once the children are educated together, they will not observe caste hierarchy in later life. They will not feel the need to observe caste division. In addition, the government should abandon the title ‘special schools for low caste children’. This very title creates a feeling of inferiority among children attending the school.” On Hindu festivals like Dussehra and Makar Sakranti, Savarkar would visit houses, accompanied by people from different castes, and distribute traditional sweets. He himself brought up a girl child from a former untouchable community and taught people from untouchable communities to read, write and recite the Gayatri mantra. ADVERTISEMENT In 1930, Savarkar started the first pan-Hindu Ganeshotsav. The festivities would be marked by “kirtans” rendered by the so-called untouchables. Listeners from the so-called higher castes would garland those who rendered these devotional songs. Public lectures by women and inter-caste dining by women were special features of these festivities. Savarkar was also behind many temple movements of Maharashtra, where the untouchables were encouraged to pray, recite Sanskrit hymns and conduct “abhishek” of the Vishnu idol. In 1931, the Patitpavan temple was established in Ratnagiri; it had on its trust, representation from all castes, including those from the erstwhile untouchable caste. Savarkar also organised community meals in some temples. The first community meal for women in Maharashtra was held in the Patitpavan temple on September 21, 1931. Around 75 women were present on the occasion. By 1935, this count had gone up to 400. ADVERTISEMENT On May 1, 1933, Savarkar started a cafe for Hindus of all castes, including untouchables. This was the first pan-Hindu café in entire India. He had employed a person from the Mahar caste to serve food there. This was at a time when inter-caste dining was unthinkable.

I pity these people who are talking about Savarkar's Hindutva but not even taking effort to understand the definition of this Hindutva, Just think again what you are saying Savarkar oppose Varn Vyavastha, Jati Vyavastha and he is by your own admission an atheist. How can a atheist construct the idea of his nation based on religion? do you even make sense? cant you just open your mind and understand that when he is saying Hindutva he is not talking about Hindu religion. He is talking about geographical identity, the philosophy followed by every person who thinks he/she belongs to this region. Latest PEW survey on religion proves this point that this indianness cuts across religion. You can call it Indianness and no one will have any problem. But unfortunately Savarkar was also very avid supporter of Bhasha Shuddhi to root out English influence on our Indian language hence he might have coined a new phrase Hindutva to express idea of Indianness. Thats how I understand Savarkar and I haven't found any inconsistencies so far. There is a famous quote, 'if your results (Analytical in our case) are not consistent with observation check your assumption they need to change' .

The one sided analysis of figures like Ambedkar, Savarkar, Gandhi, Nehru indicates how Indians haven’t trained their minds to think analytically. It’s not uncommon to come across many castes-communal-lingual bias-driven viewpoints from their camp followers. There’s no doubt that Savarkar was indeed a fierce freedom fighter but only so long as he was not jailed. Circumstances changed while he was in jail and the Savarkar that came out of jail was diametrically different than the one before. The problem arises only when the Savarkarites try to impose him as a freedom fighter for life when actually all his actions post his release were favourable to the British. Instead of extolling Savarkars contribution towards galvanising Indians till he was jailed and for his contribution towards eradication of blind faith and casteism the Savarkarites are doing great injustice towards Savarkar and also inviting ridicule for justifying his several applications for clemency. If Savarkar is to be honoured with Bharat Ratna award than that should be for his contribution towards freedom struggle before imprisonment and for his social reform movement - which he carried zealously even in the face of fierce opposition from the Hindutva idiots - and for propagating scientific temper. The bammanical lobby however is more interested in magnifying his anti-Muslim ideology which allegedly got shaped during his stint in the Andamans, otherwise how can anybody brand a person as anti Muslim who termed the 1857 revolution as the first war of India’s independence though it was leb by Zafar a Muslim. It is also foolish to expect this same bamman lobby which thrives on blind faith to spot lit savarkars crusade against blind faith n false gods

You are ignorant about what Savarkar's work after his release for the freedom of our country. Regarding petitions, I will justify that because it is indeed justifiable by looking at the context. Many people wrote such petitions; it wasn't a taboo to write petitions those days. Subhash Bose met Savarkar in 1940, and it is Savarkar who advised Netaji to go to Germany because this _"andolans"_ that Gandhi was leading were futile in his opinion.
