Why didn't Pakistan try to wrest Kashmir from India in 1962 but tried to do so in 1965? ------------- answer ----------- In 1962 Pakistan was not politically / diplomatically prepared to militarily annex Kashmir . In fact Pakistan was even prepared to help India to jointly face the Chinese threat , Further , Pakistan was then an Alliance partner of USA .USA had directed Pakistan not to open another front against India . India , Pakistan , Chinese relations changed very dramatically after 1962 Pakistan under the guidance of Bhutto struck an anti India deal with China whereby , inter alia , Pakistan gifted / sold 5000 sq km plus of POK-i.e. Shaksgam Valley to China . By 1965 , Pakistan had China as an ally . Kennedy was gone in 1963 . Also , most important for Pakistan’s 1965 Indian attack decision Nehru had also died in 1964. Pakistan thought that the new Indian Prime Minister , Lal Bahadur Shastri was a weak and indecisive leader and lacked stature especially when compared to Nehru. PM Lal Bahadur Shastri ‘s weak personality image was further bolstered by PM Shastri ‘s , sort of appeasement of Pakistan in the Rann of Kutch crisis in early 1965 Most important factor for Pakistan ‘s decision to attack India in Kashmir in1965 was that after her defeat in 1962 , India had started expanding exponentially her armed forces both in numbers and equipment. Pakistan felt that if delayed further Pakistan , which was militarily superior to India till then , would never be able to wrest Kashmir from India. So ,Pakistan attacked Kashmir calculating that a weak Indian PM would keep the war limited to Kashmir. But PM Shastri with totally unexpected resolve , bravery and decisiveness .He counter attacked Pakistan across the International Border in Punjab forcing Pakistan to withdraw its forces from the Kashmir front and to , later , accept a ceasefire

Most of the operational plans are made/ built on highly attractive and appealing assumptions, but in reality absolutely wrong assumptions which in most of our subcontinent’s environments have failed ! I agree with Mr Gupta that 1965 War was a meaningless war of mutual incompetence. Realistically speaking strategically Pakistan suffered far more than India though tactically on quite a few fronts Pakistan’s performance can be regarded as satisfactory . Pakistan also failed in exploitation of initial successes! Both sides in 3 weeks time , ran out of the Staff Colleges Pink Solutions and had to agree to a ceasefire! Material losses were huge with no substantial results. Most of the researchers have now arrived at the conclusion that 1965 was a blunder committed by FM Ayub Khan. Had he not gone to war with India, Pakistan would have economically and politically progressed far better in the region . It would have been totally a different history.

What about East Pakistan then ? Is it true as Pakistani reports suggest that in the earlier assault of Rann of Kutchh, the IAF wasn't put into use after a hotline discussion between Air marshals Arjan singh and Asgar khan ? If that's the case and PAF wasn't in action in the Rann of Kutchh, how was CM Balwantrai Mehta's helicopter shot ?

Blame it on Nehru and his Khangressi policies for the imbalance of arms between Bharat & Pakistan... While Paksitan was arming itself to teeth, Bharatiya leader was smoking 555 and getting his clothes dry-cleaned from UK or visiting abroad for long durations or ensuring Somnath temple was not restored or gifting land to China under 'Hindi/Chini Bhai-Bhai policy or giving Bharat-Ratna to himself. Hats off to the Army that we could give a befitting reply, otherwise the leadership had decided to gift-wrap and present Kashmir to the perpetrators. EES GEE - What glee you have on your face highlighting enemies shenanigans; didn't know journalism has to trancend borders to be political correct...What a pity.

It’s easy to say all these things now. The priority then was poverty. To build top educational institutions and bring people out of poverty. India hardly had any money back then. It’s easy to be judgemental and not be rational

I don’t know why Indian journalists are obsessed with Pakistan. We should let Pakistan be what it wants to be - good, bad, ugly whatever. We have enough matters of our own to focus on. Establishment and ruling class of Pakistan are not well wisher of India. Listen to anyone talks and you can see all the biases and narrative they want to create - it comes out on the face.

Congratulations. You won the 1965 war. Your tanks thundered down the plains of Indian Punjab and reached Delhi. Ayyub Khan sipped tea at the Lal Qila, Delhi. Indian PM fell at his feet begging for mercy. Pakistan Navy captured Mumbai, Goa, Cochin, Lakshadweep, Vishakapatnam and the Andaman Islands. Pakistan Air Force bombed the life out of Kolkata, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Patna and Hyderabad. Being large hearted, gracious Pakistanis forgave dirty Kafir Hindus and returned all the territory including the Kashmir valley.

Pakistan is globally a very sensitive geo-political area with an armed force 25% to 35% of India & unfortunately it had to protect two wings separated by 2000 kms of hostile territory. This is not the situation anymore & latest technology MLRS & potential missiles combined with a powerful air-force can overturn the table like Russians facing nato in Ukraine. Notwithstanding the above we still need backing of super-power to ensure transfer of latest military technology.

Pakistan is the only country where no heads role when the army keeps on loosing it's territory. They lost in 1971 so badly that half of the country was lost. They lost in 1965. They lost very badly in 1999. Even AMERICANS did their thing in ABOTABAD & never informed them. Even now TALIBAN is in AFG but TTP is making their life miserable. Still possibly that's the only government model which works may be. It's only time which will tell if it really works, as the Islamization may be happening at a rapid pace.
