I have always thought that the use of profanity is a sure sign of both a limited vocabulary and intellect.

reliance on profanity to express ones opinion is often a sign of a limited vocabulary, which in turn is often a sign of a limited intellect

Awesome video and song. It always amazes me when songs like this somehow slip by unnoticed only to be brought back out into the light years later.

Nice rendition. True to the spirit of the song. First heard it when Will Ferrell sang it in a movie. A great song always lasts forever.

having had a look at the wreckless eric version, i get the feeling the proclaimers actually might go the whole wide world, while eric'd be hard pushed to make it off the sofa. dear old chap.

ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT this is the best I have ever heard and I am a little proud to say I am part Scottish. Definitely will subscribe to such music mastery and harmony. Fantastic.. True Love not necessarily is within a few blocks of where you live.

I love this version. The Scottish accent actually works on this. People who slag off the Scottish and Irish accents are just jealous of us Celts.

It's a great song. It tells a story which is something you don't hear much anymore. Also, I have to admit, those guys have aged great. They don't look as nerdy as they did in the 80's. Awesome musicians.

Hard to believe this song was written in 1977. So fresh, and timeless. I'm thinking Wreckless Eric wrote the best single of the punk era, and he was largely ignored. This Proclaimers version is a lot of fun too. This song will always be a favourite for me.

Last night I spent the whole evening listening to some Proclaimers bangers ✨ (I'm Gonna Be, Letter From America, I'm On My Way etc). I got stuck on this one, and just had to keep clicking [Play] each time it finished. Original 80's/90's fan (I haven't really listened to any "new" music for a couple of decades), but I'm looking forward to making my way through their more recent work, and hoping to find some more belters! ✨

I'm just an old guy, catchin up, so to speak, but for what it's worth, eric produced one of the greatest ever 'desire' songs, unrequited in the extreem, he never even met her! think its fab that these guys reprised the song! and unbeknown to me when saw them live in hammersmith in 2007, they played this and eric joined them! twas fab! (i'd only seen eric on stage twice before) many many years before!

@DRichards705 The song was written by Eric Goulden (Wreckless Eric) in 1974 and recorded in 1977, the Monkees covered it in 1987 on a reunion tour. Never heard the latter version but will try to find it.
