GTA Online Is Militarization and Futuristic Vehicles Destroying The Game? An Honest Discussion

Me discussing a very important topic in regards to the militarization that has happened in the last few years as well as the addition of all the new futuristic vehicles. Some players like the changes but others do not. Here we are going to be discussing that as well as looking at various other peoples opinions on the subject.

This was my opinion but its an important discussion to have whether you like the militarization or not because it is a fact that its changing the game. How do you guys feel about it? Three years ago I never pictured half of this stuff would be in the game especially not a cannon that can hit you almost anywhere from space and instantly blow you up. To me, the game was ruined when the patch before Heists launched as it brought homing missles and marksman rifle. But it has gotten way worse... its hard to find gun fights as people with no skillz jump to those weapons or vehicles. Wish they could revert to an older game state and play there back when you needed skillz as lock-ons werent a thing.

The "Deal with it" mindset is why GTAO got to this point. Keeping said mindset will only encourage the downward spiral to keep going. Each passing entry shows the formula was not getting boring. They could've added map expansions to expand the organized crime aspect of the game. But instead they went with what we got today. Imagine if R* added Las Venturas and allowed us to expand our criminal empire to that place and add onto what was already given. That isn't going to happen now... GTAO was to expand and be it's own thing as Benzies put it. Instead I feel we got cookie-cutter content crowding a map full of toxic players to milk our wallets or our time. This is my view on the issue. Don't agree? Fine.

I'm a low level player, but I don't try to shoot everyone I see. The closest I got to doing that was me pulling out a gun because someone stopped on the road and I was on the sidewalk, so I would be ready just in case. That person ended up killing me, but it might have been because it looked like I was preparing to shoot him, so I didn't get angry.

A homing launcher with Deluxo missiles? Eh, meh, bleh. Well, I guess we do have countermeasures on some helicopters now. But still. Also, the goofy vehicles tend to not go near people on foot anyway - they just wait around a corner until you're in a car before attacking. I like actual military vehicles, like the Hunter/Apache. Not so keen on what I call goofy vehicles (AKA futuristic vehicles, meme vehicles, etc.). But what's the bigger deal in my opinion? Accessibility. My Hunter has to be summoned at very specific places, and has a cooldown. These goofy vehicles can be summoned anywhere, right next to you - and in the broomstick's case it doesn't even have a cooldown. That's more of a problem than anything in my opinion.

I can't help but wonder why did they give missiles to the Deluxo in the first place... and top tier missiles on top of that. Crazy... It's already a flying car, didn't need missiles to be outstanding. Same goes for Oppressors. MK2 should be a special vehicule also, and... I don't know. I'll admit it, the game's been easier for me since I got the Broomstick MK2. But I don't grief, not a tryhard either. I grind, I help other people, I kill people that I see griefing, and to do that the Mk2 is... well perfect. I use it all the times. But it's... huh... it's sad. The vehicule, the problems it brings, and why it exists today in GTA Online.

Personally I think you shouldn't hate the weapon but the person using it. Oppressors are fun I would love to have the mark 1 just to fly around with but people hate it because griefers use it to ruin others peoples fun. here's some random ideas I had to make moving cargo easier and to stop some things griefers do 1: easy way outing counts as 2 deaths in your kdr 2: cant go into passive if you've recently been in combat ( make it a cooldown that actually matters) 3: stop alerting other players to destroy cargo and don't give a reward for it 4: business upgrade to make cargo invisible on the map forever except for those in the mc club or CEO business 5: the choice on what vehicle you use to move the cargo and have the list include personal vehicles ( I think it would be fun to be able to choose your personal a mark I oppressor as a cargo van) 6: if players destroy cargo it respawns at the business ( no more need to find new sessions to respawn cargo)

I agree that griefing and all sucks but: 1. Dumb, just when you are fighting it should count as a kill from the adversary 2. Passive mode would become useless to people that use it for its og purpose 3 and 4: The problem is that there would be no competition anymore. The game would become even more boring. Its actually not the real problem. Here is a real solution imo: If the cargo is destroyed it drops into crates (3,2 or 1 depending the drops left for the said cargo). These can be picked up by everyone, and sold by everyone. Selling 1 crate gives 70% of the money it should have gaved if the vehicle had made the remaining drops to the owner of the cargo. The next crate gives 20 then 10. If the cargo is destroyed, and you manage to sell one crate, you lose only 30% of the money that was in the destroyed vehicle. If a random sells a crate, they get 30k. Crates are off the radar until the owner sells at least one of them. Even if you get griefed, with this solution, the punishment is not big.

They wont fix anything, destroying cargo only pays 2k. the way it would be fun and challenging would be something like the Bussiness Battles, when someone is selling you should be able to steal the goods, add a cooldown timer and then try to sell again. And about the monetization, the sharkcards dont worth anything, why they dont try to sell Starters Packs or vehicle packs it would be better

I believe that san Andreas is a war torn state that is under a civil war between: radical militia's , experienced pilots , angry and depressed teenagers (the tryhards) , local civilians , Business organizations , biker gangs and criminal master minds (also including the police force and the military) and currently having a brutal battle for the city of los Santos. All and all san Andreas is the only war torn state with a stable economy along with a uncontrolled open black market with access to military and top secret hardware. I agree the Oppressor is too powerful and in the wrong hands is a right menace to GTA Online. Simple solution nerf the Oppressor mk2 by putting it into the Pegasus menu and a cool down on the missiles and take it off the Motorcycle Club menu.

Making the mk2 weaponless now wouldnt be taken very well so i reckon a simple solution instead of a kill switch Mc clubs or mechanic shouldnt allow vehicles that are called in to have as many missiles as maximum maybe like a third or a fourth... gotta go to the actual place to get the most out of those mk2 (from the nightclub not the terrorbyte) or the deluxo (the garage it is in) Having a player call in a mk2 with 5 rockets isnt much of a problem and having to ground and then call in the next takes so much time

The problem with GTA Online consists of Rockstar's inability to do the logistics of servers. Simply divide the resources into PVP and PVE, so you grinders could focus on the grind in the PVE servers, specialized in this sense with high-paying missions and extremely profitable activities, and after arming themselves the players can go to the PVP servers and spread the massacre all over Los Santos. But no, they need to keep those two together to make grind as hard as possible, so they can sell SHARK CARDS.

We also have to remember that GTA never was only for grinders or to compulsive killers. I stopped playing because as much as I love grinding in other games, like MGSV and Borderlands, the grinding of GTA Online is TOO HARD AND TOO BORING. I think that the greatest problem with this game is the lack of resolve. They need to make a final decision, "THIS IS A GRINDING OR A PVP GAME? ". Because if it's a PVP game, they need to add easier ways to get money, and if it's a grinding game, they need to find a way to protect players from each other. If they don't want to follow my previous solution, they need to make this ultimate decision for GTA 6 or they will suffer from the same problems.

Probably nobody reads this anymore, but I just wanted to say something about this: I just started playing gta5 online for the first time. I really dont like these futuristic stuff, though Im fine with the military vehicles. There are some people who kill me with these weaponized vehicles, though I think it isnt that bad. Here is the problem. Because GTA Online is forcing us to be in public sessions in order to do Business we have to worry about players that try to kill us for no reason. Its so dumb. I find it funny how you can still do Cilent Jobs and VIP Work missions in a Invite Only Session but you cannot do Business. Even when Rockstar added in the Business Battles in Freemode its become a huge warzone when you have all these people in the lobby wanting to get the cargo for themselves and they kill each other to see who gets it first. That is why I stay away from public lobbies because whenever I'm trying to do my Money Business some assholes just kill me for no reason and just insult me whenever I kill them. The GTA Community can be so cancer.

Also doesn't help that the nightclub is so horrifically slow. If there is a cargo business battle, there will be 2 crates. Those two crates will shave off 2 hours of the nightclub's production in about 5 minutes. But yeah. Forcing us to be in these sessions where we can't even feel safe in our bunkers because some hacker could pop in and stick a fire pit in everyone's asses, causing them to need to reload the game entirely.

Yesterday some level 8000 kid went ghost with broomstick MK2. When i finnaly killed him he messaged me ”trash”, ”noob”, ”broke b i t c h”. Then we went to a sniper battle on beach, when i killed him three times in a row, he PROBABLY used BST, then called meccenaries on me and got a broomstick. Yeah the military stuff isn't awful unless it oversaturates the game and overshadows what made GTA the way it is (which it kind of did oversaturate the game). But the future stuff is ridiculous. I like the fact a couple of the toys we have feel like a nod to past things we enjoyed in older games (Deluxo - Flying Car Cheat, Drone - RC activities), and they're admittedly cool, but that's where the compliments end.

I started playing again 3 weeks ago for the first time in 3 years and started from the bottom..... I can't even buy a sports car and upgrade it like I used to! I was getting blown up left and right. My main car had to be the ugly 'Duke O Death' just to drive down the street without getting blown up by griefers. I feel as if the game encourages players to grief. The flashing red map icons, the "cash and RP reward", even the npc characters tell you to do it. Rockstar hasn't done much to shun this kind of behavior sine it earns them cash with microtransactions, which are bought by both the players who abuse weaponized vehicles and by those who gave up because of the griefers. I have 3 ideas on what would fix these issues. 1. A new type of lobby which doesn't allow weaponized vehicles except for those mandatory for sell missions. 2. A new system where destroying cargo could count as a "bad sport" action which could result in the offender being put in sessions with others of it's same kind. 3. An ability to prevent lock-on from missles on all cargo vehicles (similar to chaff). These would definitely help fix the game.

GTA right now is basically a never-ending warzone. Whenever I enter a session, the 1st thing I'd do is to check for any flying vehicles (deluxos & oppressors & jets). And 8 in 10 times, I'd see a random oppressor just cruising and killing other players. Rockstar should include more shady aspects into the game. Maybe we could have our own gun or drug supplier in the alleys of Los Santos. Or be involved in some money embezzlement cases. Furthermore, I think it'd be great if R* add more elements that require actual skill and intelligence into the game. Hence, the theme of criminal mastermind. For example, the 'hacking game' in sightseer etc is too easy and boring. R* should make it harder using any means possible. By doing so, it's able to create a sense of accomplishment for the players. Next, R* should also include more stealth jobs in free-mode. For example, Martin Madrazo calls and request for a person to be killed. but silently in his own home. Something of that sort, you geet the idea. Everytime we successfully complete the side-missions for the character (e.g madrazo), the trust level increase. so, the higher the trust level, the frequent the side-missions gonna be. I personally think its a great idea!

DO you know the smile on my face when i saw the enus stafford added into the game? I immidiately went into the clothing store and bought some valentines day outfits and painted the car brow secondary cream and trim color of the seats, a very aquatic green/blue, and cosplayed in an invite only session just driving, and acting like an NPC for a good 30 minutes, before i sat to enjoy some good music, and then when i went to a public session to sell my "AFK" profits 2 people in opressors ganged up on me, and i shut down GTA online. So, i come to GTA online mainly for the criminal enterprise and the relics being the cars and the business, theyre allowed to have militarized vehicles, but as with any military vehicle it always has a flaw both in real life and in game, like tanks are slow but they can take explosives, and bikes are fast but 1 hit and youre done for. As soon as i saw that stupid flying deluxo a part of me died inside and a part of me dint care, but now the ammounts of militarized vehicles are getting way out of hand, i cant remember the last time they added a vehicle that was a compacts class vehicle. I approve the militarized vehicles, as long as they dont go overboard as they have been doing in these past few months, in which i have to say that no i dont like the way GTA online has gone, i like my classic cars, with my classic gta with my classic storytelling and my classic sidequests, and my classic round the mill grind

They would always chase him with either a savage or a oppressor MK.2, and every time I try and help him make money the cargo would either get destroyed or he would get killed over and over. This is vid a few months old now but it still applies in my opinion, I believe that militarisation is good if modern military vehicles are added, for example, the hunter or the insurgent pickup, both are powerful in the right hands but require skill to use, the insurgent is easy to defeat by shooting the gunner out the turret. The oppressor mk2 and deluxo are very annoying because there are no simple counters, both can dodge rockets ( the oppressor mk2 even has flares) and are more agile than helicopters or jets but possess the same firepower

Quick fix. Just remove the weapons from all the overpowered vehicles. The Deluxo is cool because it's a flying car a la Back to the future. It wouldn't need the missiles to be cool. And a flying motorcycle. That's really fun to ride, just remove the guns from it. The vehicles themselves are not the problem. It's the "press button to win/grief" weapons on those vehicles that is the problem. This game should as you say be about bank robbers and street gangs and that level of violence. But often it feels more like a battlefield in a world war.

First off, I love how you are still very respectful even to the people that disagree with you. It's not really that common on the internet unfortunately, so I appreciate you for that. Secondly, I think this militarization is in fact needed for a simple fact: this game is almost 5 years old and its sequel is probably not coming anytime soon (seeing Rockstar's M.O. with marketing their games where they release the game 2 years after the first trailer, I'd say GTA 6 is gonna come in 4 to 5 years time), they need something to make the players curious, and they can't do that with just new normal vehicles, we have tons of them by now. Sure, you'd say they can make new missions, races and modes to make the playerbase interested and they can and do, in fact they just did with the After Hours update. Problem is these missions will keep the community interested probably for about a week and then after that people will return hungry for new content. Among the reasons why they're convenient for Rockstar are also your reasons: they often re-unbalance the metagame basically forcing an advanced player to buy them in order to stay at the top of the food chain, and because of that they're expensive, helping Rockstar sell their Shark Cards. But they're also great to have fun with some friends or even solo: look at the Scramjet, for example. Last point I wanna make in favor of these vehicles is that they're fun-favourite: look at the Vigilante, the Scramjet, the Oppressor Mk II, the Deluxo: these are all vehicles whose counterparts are very popular in real life, and that is a major selling point for players I think. They also keep the game alive with advertising: I'm talking about the official ads from Rockstar on social media but also their retweets of fan photos of these vehicles. Think about it this way: somebody is very excited about RDR2 and therefore follows Rockstar on social media for all the latest news about the game and stuff. Thing is, Rockstar puts out all these posts about GTA Online, so the potential player maybe will not like something boring like the Freecrawler, but - also thanks to the community involvement - will be interested about the Scramjet or the Oppressor Mk II. Maybe this player is also a returning player, already has GTA V but hasn't played it for a while, and decides to pick it up again to check the new content. And maybe that guy will stay for a long time, who knows. This is beneficial for Rockstar obviously but for us, the playerbase too, because more players means that the game is far from dying. Overall, I'd prefer the game remained true to its original core of gameplay and features and didn't go all out on these futuristic and weaponized vehicles, but I realized it's just plain necessary.

@@shanereuter1422 it's one of the reasons the new cars aren't that fast, the "normal" cars in gta get a slight boost when they hit bumps, to stop this rockstar added this code where cars lack power at redline and also sit at redline for a while before shifting, this has ruined the new cars because it limits there performance and also prevents players from mid drive speed boosting meaning they aren't great at drag racing or drifting

I had started playing GTA online a few months back and I personally think most of the Militarization stuff was good except I think the futuristic stuff was where it drew the line, like some of the stuff in gunrunning was kinda goofy fun type of futuristic that kinda fitted in, yet the futuristic was too heavy handed in the doomsday heist, like the mk2 is something that never should of been made or shouldn’t have countermeasures and should of had only buzzard missiles

Gta WAS better without all this ridiculous vehicle stuff. Now I can barely drive a few feet before a deluxo, oppressor mk2, jet or heli blows me up, so I have to kill them back 11 more times with every thing from warstock. They could at least make it so you have to spend more time targeting the player yourself with a smaller radius on the lock on missiles. Literally takes no effort to not even face the target and still lock on and blow up everything you pass.

I agree, before all you really had to worry about was rhino tank, or a jet someone stole from the military base. Unlike the Oppressor Mk2, the jet could be shot down.

A true Free-Aim server would be a perfect addition, where none of the weaponized vehicles lock on. The lock-on is what makes everything so strong. There will still be skilled shooters that can free aim, but a true free-aim server will make the fights more balanced.

Overpowered futuristic flying machines and jets especially are stifling my gaming experience when I really need to enjoy the intense focus involved with some jobs. I also enjoy exploring and making new friends in the GTA V world, but every other time getting blown up and stalked for any length of time, is extremely anxiety inducing. I wouldn't want anyone to feel that. I recently custom ordered an over powered Areawars car as self defense, but then it feels weird because I just wanna have fun and not intimidate potential friends and teammates. Sigh.

Don Hova its BS. Rockstar is basically punishing us for grinding out the game instead of buying their way overpriced hundred dollar shark cards. You can't do delivery when half you lobbies has a vechile that could spam homing missiles. I have not had the game for long getting it just before Christmas and am only level 82 but I think that militarised and futuristic vehicles as they add a fun twist for defense and completing missions. The only problem is when people abuse them to get easy kills against people who don't expect it and can't fight back. The worst part is that they think that they are better than other players by pressing 1 button to kill them when the other person is more skilled when they finally snipe them off their magical flying bike or blow it up. For example, a guy in a heli was killing my friend for no reason so I started running circles around him on my bicycle to distract him while some of my higher level friends took him out as I couldn't. He didn't kill me once when I was on my bicycle.

It’s funny when you get into a battle with a MK 2 oppressor and you finally blow them up so you take the battle to ground and it feels so good because everyone with a MK 2 oppressor can’t fight for shit on the ground with a heavy sniper so what do they do? They pull out auto sniper, that is also a problem abusing auto snipers with MK oppressor, I reckon they should nerf the missiles on the my opressor to make it a lot fair for other skilled base players. Who agrees ?

In my opinion the military vehicles are brilliant for missions and jobs against NPC but in free mode and against other players it is beginning to ruin game and turning it in the wrong direction i hope rockstar find a way to change something before it goes to far

This might be almost a year later but i think the situation has not change to much. I think we need to break this down a bit because there several issues that should be addressed with the Futuristic, Weaponized Spy equipment and Militarized equipment. The first major issue I want to address is that the game is actually very poorly designed gameplay wise when it come to multiplayer. At least when you talking about creating a quasi persistent environment where people all play together. It is very much a zero sum game where for one play to have enjoyment someone else must suffer. Or at least this is how it presented. And a lot of reward structure is there to encourage head to head completion. That is why we have people called "Griefers" in the game. Now I am not sure I would actually call most of them Griefers since it sort of how the game encourage you to play on the one hand... But really. It not really fun to have you experience just ruined by someone you did not even have a chance to fight back against. Well at least failure is not punished that hard in the game. But this issue existed before all the fancy toys where added. You do not really feel like you have a chance to fight back against a lot of the random violence. And there have been little punishment against it. What the new toys do is actually just make the situation worse. But is a situation core to the game it self. What the game really would need is a more though redesign in how the game mechanics for cooperative and competitive play. Not a easy thing to do mind you. But it is really what is need. In many ways is actually the community that carries this game and make it so bearable to play. For every Griefer there several good people in the game that do not mind helping you out. The other aspect is if the inclusion dilutes the brands identity. This is a bit iffy since we have seen a lot of these thing before in GTA series. Tanks date back to the first game for example. And there was a fair bit of spycraft to San Andreas. So these aspects have been there and for some I feel that it feels like these elements belongs. Though even with this favourable interpenetration it still feels to me that some of it actually dilutes the brand. But then again I feel that GTA 5 has a really problematic relationship with is past and a clashing tone to it. On the one hand is want to be serious and raises critique. But on the other hand is very juvenile and silly. In many areas it does feel like it a game that do not know what it wants to be. I do like the spycraft things. I mean in some respect it does this better then Just Cause where you actually are a spy (in theory. For me it seem like really just a force of nature destroying everything that gets in you way). Tough I it seem to some degree to be out of place. On the other hand is does a pretty poor job at making you feel like a criminal empire I would say. Heist are neat but they could as well be a part of a spy game. While a lot of the more criminal elements developed a lot more. So the game exist in a sort of limbo in what it wants to be. Is it serious or just for laughs? Is a Spy game or are you a petty criminal climbing you way up the organized crime ladder? Maybe they should make a more serious spy game where you are discourage from going on a total killing spree. But is always a option. (Minor side note. If I actually made a sandbox game like this I would actually likely make it a cyberpunk game since it allows for a lot of different takes. As well as both limiting and empowering the player at the same time. All while saying true to you bran offering different takes on the theme allowing for a lot of Role-playing opportunity. I guess I have to see how Cyberpunk turns out.)

You are one of the few. To many time I log into a session and it's like zoning into Beirut. If they wanna keep these vehicles there needs to be balance. If you make it so the homing missile cant be out ran and easily dodged that would be fine. But then the helicopter try hard complain. I feel that pvp should be a mode you enter and must stay in for am extended period of time. Not passive mode. Passive mode doesnt allow you to defend yourself against NPCs. Pvp mode should be a mode you enter that allows you to attack other players and that way the try hard cant open world fight and the people trying to play the game can

I like the futuristic stuff when they go all the way with it. For example when Infinite Warfare came out and the campaign reminded my of BSG, but I don't think that ruined the game because it's not like people all started liking CoD again when WW2 came out. The issue to me is more with map design getting worse so they can put all the good maps in DLC and stuff like that. If the base game maps aren't good, there's less of a reason to play or buy the game. Btw, BO3 and Infinite Warfare are the only games "Since Black Ops 3" that are futuristic. Technically, BO2 was the first game to get kinda futuristic, with Advanced Warfare adding in the boost jumping.

To me it would be better they add WW2 era vehicles like PT boats or tanks like Sherman, Panzer IV, Tiger I&II, Sherman Firefly, T-34-85 and IS-2 or planes like Spitfire, Bf109, Me262 although they already added Me163 Komet and P-51 Mustang in Smuggler's Run update. I'm an avid fan of military history especially World War 2

They should make it so you don’t have to pay the repair cost of other people’s vehicles during sale missions so players can use every resource they have to stop greifers without worrying about it eating into their profits. Along with this they should make it so that player that gets killed within a certain vicinity to cargo will have to wait extra time to call in certain vehicles. I just think that there should be some way to make it risky for greifers to be up to their typical fuckery
