I think Scott gets the working class quite well BUT HE HAS BLIND SPOTS and some of them are not just blind spots but black holes. For example his blindness towards Gaza is staggering and here's some points he and many others DO NOT mention. Before I say any more - YES 100% the October 7th attacks were horrendous and that should not be left out of any conversation, the surviving hostages need to be released and the perpetrators hunted down like the animals they are. Nobody needed to create lies about organised rape or decapitated babies in ovens SOME of the posts the Hamas criminals posted were more than enough to condemn them as animals. FIRST - Scott is one of the champions and loudest voices of the rights of boys to grow up into responsible men, EXCPET for boys growing up in Gaza. What sort of men do you think these boys missing limbs, friends, brothers & sisters will grow up to be? SECOND - About 53 minutes in he comments on the 70% support the citizens of Gaza have for Hamas what he is missing is what that number was BEFORE the October 7th attacks. *Chas Licciardello of the Australian show Planet America reported on this.* He quoted a string of polling data that showed in recent years the support for Hamas had all but collapsed. Hamas support was around 30% just prior to the October 7th Attacks. This was a major reason why Hamas had NOT held fresh elections. THIRD - The only reason Hamas exist as any sort of functioning organisation is because Benjamin Netanyahu supported them financially. The reason was very simple He and others WANTED an alternative to Yasser Arafat's Fatah organisation as a means to sow division among Palestinians making it incredibly difficult for them to organise around the common purpose of an Independent Palestine. AND YES the first time someone told me that Netanyahu's people FINAINCIALLY BACKED Hamas I called BULLSHlT to their face and they simply said go look it up. After which I had to apologise because its TRUE. The only reason Hamas are anything is because Benjamin Netanyahu funded them as an opposition to Yasser Arafat.

I care about Jan. 6, my spouse cares, everyone in my family cares & all my friends care. Apparently half of the American voters don’t care or think the insurrectionists were visitors. My god, the ignorance. As Thomas Frank What’s the Matter with Kansas? Frank writes: The angry workers, mighty in their numbers, are marching irresistibly against the arrogant. They are shaking their fists at the sons of privilege. They are laughing at the dainty affectations of the Leawood toffs. They are massing at the gates of Mission Hills, hoisting the black flag, and while the millionaires tremble in their mansions, they are bellowing out their terrifying demands. “We are here,” they scream, “to cut your taxes.” Trump & Republicans don’t offer anything hopeful for We the People but they’ve been able to convince working/middle class people to support Trump & Republican agenda of tax cuts for rich & corporations, cutting social safety nets & destroying anything that helps we the people and our democracy. Hatred & fear are powerful emotions. Powerful enough that people will vote over and over against their own interests.

That's the thing: they don't care about any of it as long as they get their way. All the stuff about deficit spending but they love the tax cuts and jobs act. The statement that grocery bills and such don't matter compared to having a democratic government is one of the most asinine comments ever made. The vast majority of successful human families and human happiness have occurred under governments that weren't democracies because democracies are relatively new. For thousands of years under monarchies, tribes, tyrannies, theocracies, etc humans have grown up, found love, made families, and enjoyed their lives. The basic needs of human beings will always come before the fantasies of ideologies. If fascism provides them then democracy will be forgotten as soon as the table is set and the meal put upon it.

I hear what Scott is saying about the whole identity politics thing, but I just don’t know if I agree that the way to go is to abandon identity politics as fast as we can. Like, yes, it can be problematic and people can definitely get carried away with it, and they definitely have gotten carried away with it in a lot of ways, but to push it aside and just focus on substance and policy I think brings up two issues: the first is that it kind of feels like the scenario that so many of us have probably experienced where you have your grandfather saying something racist at the dinner table, and just to keep the peace you try to stay on topic and you ignore the bigotry that’s coming out of his mouth. I don’t think that creates a healthy income in a lot of instances. And the second thing is that, focusing on policy and substance would be fantastic but so many of us on the Left feel like the Right actually never talks about policy and substance (or to the degree that they do, it’s very shallow and black and white). Contrary to what they see in themselves, they often operate based on bumper-sticker slogans and “common sense” (codeword for “I just feel this way”)
