The long term plan normally applies, but we have to take Trump seriously when he says things like "You just have to vote this time and then you'l never have to vote again. We'll fic it. We'll fix it." We have to consider the possibility that our future elections are in danger if he wins. I know it sounds ridiculous and people laugh it off, but consider the people he looks up to and respects. Consider how narcissistic he is. Consider what he would do if he were allowed to do whatever he wanted. It's not hard to imagine he'd make it so he could never lose again. And I know he's old but there are plenty of people behind him who would continue his reign and care equally as much as he does about the constitution.
