It's a story because they are the royal family. Like it or not some people follow them avidly and are big supporters. I think the issue here is the fact they couldnt he bothered to issue a real photo but edit and send out a fake one. Maybe there is a genuine reason or maybe its they couldnt be bothered but either way if your a working royal then do your duty. If you no longer want to be a working royal and save the tax payer a huge amount of cash then even better.

The mistakes in that image are NOT an edit. Those misalignments are evidence of NOT editing to correct it. If she wanted it perfect, why leave errors. A "pic-stitch" feature is on most phones which combines the best of multiple images into one photo. This is ridiculous.

This editing was so amateurishly and unprofessionally done - reminds me of the botched 'restoration' of the ecce homo painting in an Italian church The real story - and the reason they won't turn over the original photo - is that the real editor was William, not Kate - she's taking the fall for him - it would just be too, too creepy for him to spend that much time (yes, editing a photo to the extent that this one was doctored takes a great deal of time) on this. Very control freakish.
