I am so appreciative of your willingness to not be religious about diet Simon. It's not scientific to do so and at the end of the day people certainly are bio-individual. There is absolutely genetic variability as well as differences such as age, gender, and life circumstance/stress levels. I LOOOOVE the whole food, plant based diet. And when I was younger I did it for a few decades. But as a 60 year old woman under massive amounts of stress for a long time, now with very difficult aging parents and being self employed, I've had to drop all refined grains and eat some animal protein. It's well known that protein digestion and assimilation declines as we age, and menopausal changes in women also create insulin resistance and lowered stress resilience. It's been a very hard realization and life change for me to make, but I've added in lower sat fat animal foods-eggs, poultry, occasional fish. It's helped me finally start losing weight (without exercise), because it's helping to balance hormones and I'm sleeping better. I held off as long as I could but finally acquiesced to what my body needs to be healthy. I hope someday I can go back to plant exclusive. Its a great way to live and a wonderful community to be a part of.

I'm 67 and have been wfpb for seven years and although I did loose some weight at the start I was still over weight. It wasn't until I cut out all processed vegan "meats" and added a lot of non starchy vegetables to my meals that I was able to drop the last stubborn pounds.

Such an important point that our ancestors only had to eat "healthy" enough to survive long enough to reproduce and raise offspring to puberty, so maybe between 30-40 years old. That says nothing about what the optimal diet is for long life in the modern world.

In other words it goes without saying, anybody watching this video likely can afford whole plant foods which are actually the least expensive foods on the planet as well as the most sustainable, non-violent, and healthiest. It's not nitpicky, you wouldn't think it was nitpicky if it was your life on the line. And you're an animal too by the way.

Simon, where would we find that plant/animal protein study you referenced early in? Thank you.
It gives people a choice, yeah there's tens if not hundreds of thousands of options among legumes, greens, greens, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices pulling from a variety of each to tailor people's diets to their specific needs and desires. People are such p*****s when it comes to change. And it's even more pathetic when it's something that's ultimately right in every way.

Why would there be more animal protein available to starving people than plant protein?
@CharlieFaderАй бұрын
I think he said if it’s available. Like some tribe.
@carinaekstrom1Ай бұрын
@@CharlieFader I just doubt that starving people have easier access to animal protein than to plant protein. Sometimes people have been given interventions with animal protein. I think that's a big mistake when they just as well could have been given some good sources of plant protein, which are much more sustainable. Some people use bush meat, which is also very unsustainable. Give them a chance to grow legumes instead. It's both healthier and more sustainable.

He might be an outlier but we don't really know because we're not looking at his biomarkers he's just saying something. Furthermore he might be overcompensating in other ways that just make what he's eating more insidiously dangerous. He's not testing for cancer is he? How exactly is he testing for heart disease? What's his insulin resistance like? For all we know he could do better on a whole food vegan diet and simultaneously not be supporting the most violent jobs, the most atrocious industry that is the most destructive in every way, fostering antibiotic resistant bacteria, deadly pathogens and zoonotic diseases that kill millions of people, supporting an industry that's the most unsustainable and leading cause of deforestation, desertification, aquatic dead zones, species Extinction, there's a reason why there's over 200,000 concentrated animal feeding operations in the US alone that are toxic to surrounding communities. But hey he thinks his n of 1 blood work is good

Another great common sense presentation except for the dayspring effect. Bloodwork seems in your mind Simon to centre around lipid panel and apob in particular. I am no scientist but there seems to obviously more to even the cvd story than apob numbers, inflammation states being an obvious one. I would love to see you do a deep dive as part of this into 2 things 1) the cholesterol reverse J curve and the evaluation of studies support8ng or contradicting that including whether confounders have been appropriatey accounted for. 2) Evaluate the studies that show that losing weight / fat after a coronary event actually increases your chances of death despite probably lowering a whole lot of risk factors. It seemsclike an inconvenient truth that everyone ignores because it doesnt fit with anyones pet theories. I first heard of it arou 25 years ago at a seminar and a bit of online searching came up with scandinavian research in 2019 still finding the same counter-intuitive finding

Inflammation is caused by ApoB retention.
@georgecavАй бұрын
@@TheProofWithSimonHill here we part company in understanding. My understanding of metabolic syndrome which in my lazy way was more what I was talking about is that its way broader than that. So far as apob goes, although here I am assuming a fairly useful correlation between apob and ldl cholesterol levels, ezetimibe lowering it by a large amount for no benefit in th early studies in my mind is damning of the apob as main cause hypothesis. Yes and then there was a small benefit in that study that combined it with rosuvastatin that one of the more sceptical yt doctors who posts said was reshaped 6 times insinuating they had to work hard to conduct the trial in sucn a way that showed it had any benefit.
