For anyone going up there, warnings first: the road is blocked from the lower base to the upper base because of injuries and a death from falling. Second, last time I was there, huge pile of bear crap behind the motor pool, so keep mindful of bears. Lastly, nothing should happen, but some people do take guns up there for shooting, so also be mindful of that. That said, it's a pretty cool place to visit, and the views from the top are amazing. There's also a great campsite at the base of the towers, protected from the wind. Just be careful, those buildings have had a zero maintenance and are crumbling. This also means that there's asbestos, so don't go poking around in rubble. If you need an ambulance, it's over an hour away, so you're on your own. Finally, for anyone into UFO stuff, this place figures into the Betty and Barney Hill abduction in 1961.

@grassrat45064 жыл бұрын
@@caitlyn9451The gate is not locked. As there are several camps and a gravel pit up there that was being used when I went. I actually talked to the lady at the house next to the gate and she said it's to help keep people out. She said if I did go up, not to enter the buildings because it would be trespassing. She also told me her husband and a few others go up and weld, and close off the entrances every year. People keep breaking into them. So if you do go don't have hopes to get in, because there's a chance you won't be able to. It's also a heck of a steep hike if you park at the bottom. The day I went people were shooting at the bottom were I left my car. I didn't stay long at the top and hurried back down. I did find bullet casing next to my car that were not there before. I'm just glad whoever it was didn't shoot my car. If you do go, I suggest to go as a group.

You've put a lot of time and effort into this video and it shows. From your shots (I loved how you shot the 4Runner navigating around that roadblock) to the use of historical photos and footage, to the VO, this is a polished production. Probably one of your best so far. I know that you can't do this level of production on every video, but I hope you can pull of something like this maybe once a quarter? There are some places that are just cool to watch people explore, and then there are places that really demand an explanation of their history and context -- those are the places that interest me, and I appreciate your taking the time to make videos like this.
@TheProperPeople6 жыл бұрын

Love this place, the cameras don't do it justice when you go in person and can see everything for 50+ miles in each direction. I'll never forget waking up on the third floor of the main tower with my friends and realizing we were completely engulfed in clouds. At night you can see a wind farm off in the distance and physically watch the electrical current go across it's entire grid via their red lights. Hello to both you guy's. I've lived here just a few miles from the radar base all my life. In fact this town was first named Hartwellville (after my relatives) then changed to E--- H----. As a kid I would climb up the mountain with my friend's. Of course back then it was beautiful. Way before the biker gang's H---'- A----- and other's destroyed most of it. I have read some of the comment's and most of them are very kind but some seem to be casting doubt's on your story. What you said was very true. Back in the late 1950's and Early 1960's The Development was built. My dad helped to build the town's houses that are at the bottom of the Mountain. Yes the base is all the way to the top much like any military base it was called ''THE RADAR BASE'' And YES it was at it's time our nation 1st line of defence. It look's like you took the outer way to get to the split in the road. But as you said after that their is only one way to go. As far as the distance for me from my back yard I'd just go into the wood's and walk up the mountain. Way back when I was a young kid e- s----- owned it and it was much easier to scout the area. There's much more than just the radar base to see. A big thank's for you video, it was great!

Down in Colorado Springs, there is still and air force/military base that it still there. Built into Cheyenne mountain there’s still a nuclear base that was used during the Cold War as well. My dad said he was in it once and it was designed so that if a soviet bomb was directed at the mountain the damage would be a bit more minimal because there were two “entrances” so it wouldn’t just blow up in the mountain, so I guess it would go out the other side... 14:30 Top tip, don't build a camp fire over concrete unless you want it to explode.
@Bmpaul025 жыл бұрын
Martin King spall...explode is a touch dramatic.
@travis19744 жыл бұрын
Concrete won’t “explode”. It will spall. Also, it would have to be an extreme fire to make concrete like that fail. The concrete supported radar equipment. I can’t imagine how thick that has to be.

Legit Muffins Oh sorry,the truth is that were i live people REALLY like to lower their car,to a point where the metal is hitting the ground,and in my perspective it is a pretty dumb thing
@peppers77746 жыл бұрын
Um alquimista doidao#GannionGG it's like playing foot ball or whatever the fuck, it's all just fun in games, being the lowest kid on the block, I can't go that low cause I would get stuck no matter what direction I left my house cause speed bumps
@chickenfordinner20935 жыл бұрын
tell me about it! driving like 30 mph and destroying the subframe on a man hole cover that had popped up

I've enjoyed visiting and exploring places like this in the San Francisco Bay Area. There are Military installations all around the Golden Gate from the Spanish up to Nike sites from the Atomic age. There are World War II tunnel forts and a radar place on one of the tops of Mount Tamalpais. Thanks for sharing this with us.
