Strongly agree. It is like having a monster living in my head. It is mentally draining and depressing every day. I can't live a normal life Because of the intrusive vivid thoughts and visions that I have to act on. Or my anxieties go from 0 to 100 instantly. I find that smoking the greens helps alot. I think people need to know and try to understand how devastating this disorder really is.

I feel you. It is one of the hardest disorders you could ever live with. And alot of people dont want to really understand it so they make fun of it. Not cool. I wish it on nobody. And I know how hard and life draining it is. Also the brain of ocd sufferers is different to normal brains. If you really have ocd. You are stuck with it for life. You can have some control over ocd but not full control. I first noticed my ocd when i was 6 or 7 I'm now 41 and still it has control of my life. And it's even harder when your parents disown you At 13.

When you have OCD you struggle to focus on important things. For example: You have to knock on the wall for 6 times or your family dies. But your teacher wants you to quickly come into the classroom to start class. You have to start class but since you have OCD you gotta knock the wall first. Because of this you get in trouble for coming into class late.

I am not at all sharing this for attention, but I do think it is helpful to know. OCD and any other anxiety disorders, (or any mental illness for that matter,) are NOT FUN! Whenever I talk about my diagnosis, I have to explain to people that it’s not exactly like how it is portrayed. While there are some cases where you need your room clean, or your pens in order to feel safe, it is more like not being able to trust your surroundings unless you are in complete control of them. The worst part about it is not being able to trust you own brain. Thank you for raising awareness with this video! We need more ACCURATE representation in the media.

I don't know whether I have OCD or not can you tell me? So it's like if I touch the door with one hand, I have to touch it with my other hand else it doesn't feel good also if I touch the edge of something I have to touch it's edge again with the back of my hand else I can't focus. I keep tapping on things 3 times. I don't know what I have with this number "3". Yesterday I went to bathroom, switched off the light and went to bed then it didn't feel good so I again went to bathroom switched on the switch and again switched off it 2 more times and returned to bed. Also if I am writing notes while listening to music I have a thought that if I don't complete writing this sentence before "THAT" part of the song comes something bad will happen. Can you tell me if there is a chance that I have OCD?

I wish more people understood OCD. People always make jokes and say they're OCD because they organised or tidied something and I think many genuinely do not realise it's a disorder and instead believe it to be a personality trait. I don't get offended by these comments but it does subtly bug me sometimes lol. The common person doesn't realise how debilitating it is, I've lost jobs, had relationships break down, came incredibly close to attempting suicide, *not ;)* broken the law, because of OCD. Most the time, it completely controls me and tortures me. Worth noting, OCD coupled with other conditions can be a dangerous mix. I also have BPD, psychosis, psychs reckon schizophrenia and other conditions also. When I'm hearing voices telling me I've done something bad or do something bad, my OCD causes me to obsess over it despite knowing it's not true, to the point that I doubt what I know and my reality. Or they may tell me I didn't lock the door and something bad has happened to my mother as a result, despite me checking the door 30 times before leaving and walking back an additional 5 times after getting 100m away from home. Then, if she doesn't answer the phone, I have to leave work or wherever I am to go back home and check, stressing and obsessing the whole way. Then repeat when I leave again. Excuse the rambling.

This is so true. OCD is the inability to focus on important tasks and and an overwhelming urge to preform a ritual before being able to move forward. Like obsessing over a new interest instead of doing that 15 page paper that is due in two days. Or having to circle the lobby 4 times before entering an office/classroom. If these ritualistic behaviors are not completed the person cannot focus on anything else.

It's got nothing to do with focus or lack thereof, it's an anxiety based disorder characterized by unreasonable thoughts and fears that lead to compulsive behaviors. I mean struggling to focus on something because your brain is yelling at you to perform a compulsion or else, is a side effect, but not the main thing.
@rconnormoody
@rconnormoody Ай бұрын
@@Chiller-pc1dvI have been diagnosed with OCD professionally. The original commenter's description is spot on. While I do have severe anxiety, for me it's a distinct experience from OCD that may or may not correlate with OCD symptoms. The best way I can describe OCD is like having a mental itch. If you don't scratch it, it will continue to bother you persistently and consume your thoughts and energy, exhausting you and preventing you from focusing on anything else, hence the name 'Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.' (The obsession is the 'itch' and the compulsion is the 'scratching') Also it's worth mentioning that OCD is no longer categorized as an anxiety disorder and hasn't been for a while.

PIN PLEASE! For anyone wondering, it’s not obsessive cleaning disorder, it’s obsessive compulsive disorder. It’s basically a super high form of anxiety where you have “rituals” or rules for yourself that you do to soothe your anxiety. (Not a healthy or functional coping mechanism) You know logically, you don’t have to, but some overwhelming feeling wins the argument and you do it anyways. It’s kind of like having a voice in your head bossing you around. In some cases, (pretty common actually) one of the rituals is cleaning, or making sure you, someone else, or objects are always clean. BUT, this is not the only thing. (Lots of ppl think ocd is just about cleaning with is not true at all). When you get the impulse to do a compulsion, (fancy word for the “rituals,” I was talking about earlier) normally it goes hand in hand with a soft of treat to yourself, like, “if you don’t do this, your mom will die”. Which logically isn’t correct, but you do it anyways. OCD can also come in the form of intrusive thoughts. Intrusive thoughts and impulsive thoughts are different things. Impulsive thoughts are when you have a thought and you act on it without thinking. Intrusive thoughts are unwanted, sexual, violent thoughts that make you feel uncomfortable or like harming yourself or others. Many ppl get them mixed up. It’s also hard to tell if someone has OCD just by looking at them or knowing them. For example, many ppl at my school say when I tell them I have it: “you don’t have OCD” or “you don’t act like it..” Please don’t say that to someone with OCD. Coming from a 12 year old with OCD, living with OCD is horrible. Please raise awareness!

I don’t know if this counts as OCD but I just don’t want to feel alone on this stuff. When I walk for example at the mall where there are tiles, I have to never step on the line overseen the tiles and each foot has to step over a line the same amount of times as the other one. This extends to objects in my house drawing imaginary lines on the floor like the fridge, the legs of chairs, doors stuff like that. Or sometimes I have to step a certain amount of times when I pass something like my closet. For example if my closet had 4 drawers I have to step 4 times in the same place that lines up with the drawers before I can move on. It’s hard to explain but maybe someone does the same.

I have OCD and this is what I experience: touching things in random places until it feels right organizing or putting something back in it's exact place if something moves repeating what I say forcing myself to do something (example: count the cars that pass by for 30 seconds or your whole family dies or walk on the tiles of the floor or else something bad happens) repeating stuff like checking if something's locked or washing my hands again people think it's cute and unique to have OCD. it's not. It is so hard to live with it. It causes stress and anxiety for me and especially makes it worse when ppl think im weird for doing this stuff and I get made fun of for it

I have ocd too I been dealing it for 4 years and never has it been worse. Basically my brain tells me to complete a Ritual so the bad thing(intrusive thought won’t happen) usually I need to do it perfect or retry until my brain feels satisfy enough to feel that I am safe. Usually when I have an intrusive thought I have to retrace my steps to before I got it and exhale then hold my breath and go back to where I was but further and then inhale. I exhale because my Brian tells me I need to get rid of all that bad energy and restart to make the intrusive thoughts to not become real. Basically like me going back into the past and when I hold my breath I have to not think of the intrusive thought or else I have to retry. Usually I can spend 10 minutes retrying and depriving my self from oxygen 🤦🏽‍♂️. A lot of rituals I perform not just once and it stresses me out and effects my daily life as well as I have been getting light head lately.

Nice Office Space reference. 😉 I don’t love explaining OCD to people who don’t understand it. Especially the intrusive thoughts. Apparently it’s trendy to use “intrusive thoughts” for fun as well now. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I know it’s nothing to be ashamed of however, it definitely isn’t taken seriously by most and when it is explained and understood, people tend to be afraid of you or start treating you differently. But, hopefully we can change that stigma surrounding mental health. It’s getting better but has a ways to go. Thanks for sharing!

IM GETTING SO AMGRY RIGHT NOW!!! PEOPLE *NEED* TO LEARN THAT OCD ISNT BEING A PERFECTONIST AND CLEAN FREAK. THAT IS NOT WHAT IT IS. I HAVE OCD MYSELF. ITS A COMPLETLEY DIGFERENT THING.... OCD Is when you get impultions that you HAVE to do otherwise you will get intrusive thoughts and anxiety or even depression. And for me, these intrusive thoughts, even led up to me attempting suicide because i wanted a better life and i wanted to live a normal life like everybody else without having to deal with my OCD. Thats what OCD actually is. But most people still mistake it for this. OCD needs to be taken way more seriously and people just need to learn what it really is.

One minor way my OCD manifested in highschool was my need to constantly brush my hair, especially between every class. Sometimes leaving class to go brush my hair, or sneaking one in to brush mid class. I was raised hyperaware of cross contamination between the outside world and our home in a macrobiotic hippie home. Was told "you're so OCD" my entire life because I love organizers and visually pleasing patterns. And maybe because as a child I'd spend more time setting up a toy mis en place and carefully putting everything away exactly where it was before than actually playing. The irony? Now that I "enjoy" (won't say I suffer from/with it because then they're winning the battle) almost daily panic and anxiety attacks, apparently I actually have contamination OCD. 😮

When I touch something, I have to repeat it on the right, the right again, then left. How do I stop it? My mom just keeps telling me it is nothing. I will get through it. But I can't do it on my own. Those voices in my head telling me if I stand on my tippy toes until 2:22pm then I will not get sick. If I do not follow through, the outcome will make something bad happen. My mom just thinks I want attention when I tell her. But I just want to eat. To sleep. To live.
